That is such a horrible story. jws don't have basic social skills. The need to feel superior to others and recruit others at every moment overpowers basic decency.

Christmas, Mother's Day etc etc..
by Mikado init's mother's day today, a lovely tradition that probably raises lots of thoughts and emotions in ex jws... i was walking around the local supermarket and remembered my family's next door neighbours, who were very intellectually disabled.. in hindsight they probably weren't able to look after themselves, as they lived in absolute squalor.. they didn't have two coins to rub together, yet they went to the effort to buy my family a card and get them a small gift.. i was newly out, and watched in absolute shame and horror as my mother said, in a very superior manner " we don't celebrate christmas", .
it's something i think of often with shame... i too was that superior... to my shame..

Can someone back up and explain what's happened?
And please post a copy of the form. I'd like to pledge to give lots of money within my lifetime, and then on my deathbed, change it to soon.
Kinda like "it's so close you won't be able to finish college", then "within this 20th century", then "um, soon".

I had a funny feeling he was a Witness... and now I need help.
by noontide inim in a bit of a bind and im not quite sure what (if anything) i can do about it.
i was recently hired as a business consultant for a rather large company.
the company that hired me mentioned that they are concerned about a certain department and the way its being run, as this department affects every other department in the company.

Don't mention the religion at all. It is not pertinent to your job. Stick to behaviors.
Stick to performance and work conduct.
Work conduct--
-Is he following company rules?
-Is he preaching to people in a manner that violates policy?
Performance--
-As a salaried employee, attendance tracking is irrelvant. Not getting his job done is. Leaving when things need to be done, habitually, is a big issue.
-Is he prepared and productive?
-Does he prioritize and lead effectively?
-Is he competent? Does he possess the knowledge and skills needed to perform his job adequately?
-Does he manage his staff properly?
Quirks and weirdness by themselves are not a reason that makes someone unsuccessful, as you know. You need to find out what else it is and articulate it. Put yourself in the employee's shoes and ask yourself, if my director said/did that to me, how would that affect my ability and motivation to perform?Once I had a manager who "didn't mesh well with her subordinates", so her boss made her take us all out to lunch. Then the boss called us each privately afterwards to find out how it went, and we gave direct quotes from the manager, said during lunch. It was the nail in her coffin. This woman had major personality issues and couldn't act normal. You could suggest that...

"Only if you get a court order." wink, wink
by rebel8 inrecently had a discussion with a surgeon who said jw parents "usually" (her word, not mine) privately say they will take blood if the provider gets a court order.. yet another person, with no connection to dubs and no motive to make this up, saying this same thing.
interesting.. i'm surprised the thought police have not come out with an article saying jehoopla reads the hearts and judges as bloodguilty those who are relieved when forced to take blood..

I would imagine we're talking about situations where the child needs blood soon, but not necessarily immediately.
Yes. Surgeries, high risk births, etc.
My understanding is that, at least in most of the U.S., if a child needs an emergency transfusion due to being in an automible accident, they get it. Now. The squawking of their cult-member parents is just an annoying bit of background noise in the ER.
What now?! That's illegal, if the parents of a minor child are cognizant, present and expressed their decisions. In all the hospitals I've worked in/with, I've never heard of random ED staff overriding parental decisions in the manner you described. Shudder, I hope that's not really happening. Good lord. (I mean, good for the jw kids, bad for medical ethics.)

Embarrassed by Aggressive Apostates
by ShempLives inxjw protests & videos.
.. i am disturbed by some of the more aggressive apostates posting videos on youtube, like "a jw memorial to remember" where a drunk man goes to a memorial and downs the whole glass of wine as a sort of protest.
this video and others like it received positive comments from aawa members.

OTOH, total silence is often viewed as consent/lack of disagreement/acquiescence. Those of us with near death experiences, serious abuse, etc. tend to NOT want anyone to be confused--we do NOT agree, we do NOT acquiesce, what they did in the past, and are now doing, is NOT ok.
In order to reduce the size and impact of this cult, it must be socially unacceptable to participate.

there was a time when parents were "encouraged" to kidnap their children out of the hospital if there was a "danger" that a blood transfusion would be given. The thought was if you didn't at least try to do this you were blood guilty.
Was that in writing or just a local situation ... Maybe in the old publication "Blood Medicine and the law of God" (right title ?)
I don't remember the kidnapping per se, but I know I was subject to practice drills on tricking healthcare providers. These practice drills were done regularly by the elders and my jw parent. Lie to the school nurse about how much blood you've lost. Go to different ERs each time. Lie to the hospital about how much blood you've lost. Pretend you're not ready to faint. Pinch your cheeks and wear opaque nail polish to make anemia less apparent. If forced to have a transfusion, distract the staff and pull it out once they leave the room. Sneak out of the hospital and find a payphone; call home or elders (phone #s memorized as part of drill).
Not doing these things was likened to consent, the same as if a rape victim did not say no.
I definitely was not lucky enough to have a wink, wink parent.
The doctor I mentioned earlier said the HLC would come and speak to them regularly, reviewing what procedures and products are ok for the dubs to take, including not interrupting the blood flow if outside the body, "and we'd just roll our eyes".
