Why Do Theist Struggle So Much For A God Who Supposedly Exists?
by Coded Logic ina theist made this casual statement on another thread,.
from ancient accounts hostile to christinity, we can learn about (jesus).
as a theist, how could they possibly trust the source to suggest this to himself?

bluesbrother, are those really in the assembly halls?
I totally respect and love visual arts...but omg...I am just lol. I didn't realize it was possible to make the wts paradise zoo stories even more tacky and unbelievable.
Sorry but omg. She's a talented artist, maybe her work is not to everyone's taste, but you gotta admit she has talent. But the paradise petting zoo pieces just freak me out.

From 1 to 10, how do you rate the value of the Internet in your awakening?
by Hidden-Window inas we all know, the internet is a real game-changer in allowing us to know the truth about the watch tower and its history.
i always had doubts and it was the internet that presented me with the ever-growing number of individuals who were going through a similar struggle.. i give the internet a 9 in my awakening.
what about you?.

0.
There was no Internet back then.
There was no way for questioning people to find each other, other than guessing each others' state of mind, if you happened to know someone. I was all alone.
As for information, I had a lot of the old-time publications so it was blatantly obvious they didn't always have The Truth as they claimed. Then they went on that wacko bend with that red Revelation book, and the big blue creation book, most of which was obviously batshit insane, and the rest was easily disproven in the public and school library. I mean, misquoting scientists to falsely present their views as pro-creation is just dumb. I almost wonder if they think, "I wonder how obvious we can make the lies to see how much the flock blindly trusts us."

Why are the Jesus people so obsessed with spreading their message?
by fulltimestudent inare they fearful that they are mistaken, so they must argue with everyone, and try to prove all otehr religions wrong, but their's right?.
i'm not talking about the well-known jw persistence, in which we all once shared.. i'm talking about nearly all brands of christianity, the witnesses and their other branded counterparts.
here are two incidents to demonstrate.. a week or so back, i read in a chinese newspaper of a complaint by two tibetan buddhist women in the city of xining, qinghai province, in western china.

Oooh, Trans-Siberian Orchestra. I want to see them IRL sometime.
Grandma got run over by a reindeer. Kill me now.
Buble is ok with me. Who's Bing?
So here's the thing. I pretty much immerse myself in xmas music after Thanksgiving. I listen to a radio station that plays it all the time. Except it's the same versions of the same songs over and over. So many artists have produced xmas music and I do enjoy most of it. Why no variety?
Here's some produced by the children of a current jw (and a jw at the time the album was produced, as far as I can tell.)

The old Feed the World. "There won't be snow in Africa." "Do they know it's Christmastime at all?" A favorite song for people ignorant of climates and world religions.
Christmas Shoes. Not sure I can put into words why I hate it so much. I actually turn the radio off when it comes on. I think I'd like to know the name of the guy who paid for the shoes. I've got a Nigerian prince who needs help transferring some money.
Now where's Dominick the Christmas Donkey?

Just 2 questions regarding the U.S. law around sex abuse
by joe134cd ini just have 2 questions regarding the u.s law around sex abuse.. (1) in this country it is quite common for the events of a sex abuse trial, to have suppression orders placed on it.
one i can think of was when the offender was given name suppression because to identify the abuser would also mean identifying the victim, so hence both were given name suppression.
now with regard to the out of court settlements and gag orders by the watchtower, and yes i do realise that the wt would have the most to benefit by doing this.

Ok, well the perp, and only the perp, is at fault for the crime.
I think the victims themselves may have unvented anger remaining and maybe they are expressing it in a somewhat ineffective manner. I think that's forgiveable. I'm not saying it's ideal, just understandable.
Imagine your deepest, darkest, most humiliating secret. One you buried a long time ago and tried to pick up the pieces of your life and move on from. But you can't. You're still hurting and maybe others are being victimized now too. Keeping silent is becoming a less rational option--you feel compelled to take action. You tell the horror story to an attorney, and his/her staff, then in a deposition, then in court. To strangers. Also, to the perp himself, who may get gratification from hearing you talk about it. You may even be afraid to see him.
Now, are you going to be the most calm, articulate version of yourself?
As to what their attorneys do, you can't 100% blame the clients for that. The attorney's job is to win the case and sometimes that means saying and doing things that aren't necessarily the same thing you and I would.

Sounds like it may have been an avoidable death, but we don't know from those posts. What caused her condition, do you know?
The aftermath was interesting and consistent with the behavior of the dubs I used to know.

How can I ever leave this cult?
by Julia Orwell ini've been out nearly two years but it's not out of me.
i am on school holidays now til february so i thought without work to worry about i can come off my medication.
i phased it slowly, starting in early november to avoid the physical side effects of coming down.

I'm sorry you are going through this, Julia. I'm relieved to hear you are getting medical treatment again and it's helping. I know lots of people want to go off their meds and have the same experience. It must be a tough choice to make.
I can personally relate to running into people, seeing the same streets, etc. I believe I started a thread called "geographic cure" on here that you may be able to find. It's not that I'm timid, feel guilty, etc. Not AT ALL. What I do feel is sick to my stomach when I see the places and faces related to (on a good day) the worst time in my life, or (on a bad day) the mental/physical abuse they systematically did for years and totally got away with it. It makes me relive the traumas.
I cannot believe how freeing it is to be in a totally different locale. I don't know if that's an option for you, and it isn't a substitute for healing, but it did help me. Shouldn't be necessary, but for me personally, it is. IMHO

What laws are on your side (in the U.S.) so you can leave quietly
by oppostate inin another topic "just quit quietly - the law is on your side" there was a lot of discussion about how to leave quietly without getting tagged publicly as "no longer a jw".
here are some legal cases that could be used to show support for leaving quietly.. you have to first send a letter saying you're leaving that specific congregation, and that you don't want them to keep records of you.. if the boe says anything against you here are some court cases that make precedent for bringing a suit against them:.
baugh v. thomas (1970).

Since you aren't DF'd they won't make the "no longer a JW" announcement.
They don't announce it when someone disassociates themselves? I am surprised to hear that.
Even though they don't announce the specific sin when announcing df, do they still read the scripture about 'not mixing in company, not even saying a greeting'?
