Yes, I do remember that. It was one of the dumbest JW rules ever. They were held during normal school hours, so I just didn't mention to my mom that there was one coming up, and attended anyway. I actually thought they were rather positive experiences--I mean, kids can come up with much worse ways to enjoy themselves. What's the harm in a bunch of cheering and school spirit?

I Received the New Magazines in My Mail...
by lonelysheep in[first...there are about 3 or 4 kh's in my city.
over the summer, they moved people into their proper congregations based on territory.
although i'd never gone to the closest hall, this is where the magazines came from per the return address.].

If it were me, I'd file a complaint. They know they are not supposed to use the mailboxes. They know they are supposed to follow "Caesar's law". They've been told about the mailboxes over and over--it's one of the first things a person learns when they begin to "go out in service". It's basic knowledge all JWs have. Yet she blatantly disregarded it.
Here's how to file a complaint: http://pe.usps.gov/text/dmm/G011.htm#Rdh23689 See section 5.0. Send the note and the magazine along with your letter outlining your complaint.

I've never heard of that. I don't think the US government gives $ to churches. I don't know about other countries.

Is Ritual a Deep Human Need??
by frankiespeakin init seem all primative cultures have rituals,,boy have to go thru "rights of passage" in some cultures even today.
what do you think do these rituals that stretch way back in our history do they serve a purpose and fill some type of psychological human need??
or should a person just turn their backs on all of it?

Or should a person just turn their backs on all of it??
I don't think it matters one way or the other. Most rituals, in themselves, are harmless, and can be helpful to some.

Suppose Brooklyn Changed The Rules On Disfellowshipping?
by Englishman insuppose the society "adjusted their thinking" on the matter of disfellowshipping.
would you still feel so angry with the witnesses?
it occurs to me that df'ing is the bottom line when it comes to being obedient.

Suppose the Society "adjusted their thinking" on the matter of disfellowshipping. Would you still feel so angry with the witnesses?
Yep. The main reason I'm angry with them is because disobedience of any kind results in the threat of being slaughtered by the diety. That could never be outweighed by the removal of shunning by humans.
Lack of DF wouldn't change their requirement of not only behavioral compliance with all their doctrines, but mental agreement with them as well. Since all of their doctrines are terribly flawed, the requirement to obey and agree with them unquestioningly is unacceptable.

BLOOD card - in a nutshell
by TheEdge ini know they are renewed yearly, and here's my dilemma......my mother being a devout jw (and me well faded) - i know i am named on her card as next of kin (she mentioned it a few weeks ago) and over the years she has always asked me to stand against the blood issue on her behalf if she's unable to do so.
i have always agreed, because whatever i believe, i also respect the belief of others too.
now i'm wondering what exactly is on there........is it a flip flop?

I have no doubt that my husband has a Blood card some where ,i have not seen it but my question is : he knows i would never sign the card so who would he name on this card to make sure his stance on Blood would be fulfilled ?
KLS- All states do not require healthcare providers to honor written advanced directives (like the blood card). It may very well be that, if your husband was unconscious, you would have the authority to make all health decisions for him.
Are you in the US? If so, what state are you in? Let me know where you're at, and I'll try to find the answer for you.

Reinstatement procedure
by Pebbles RC indoes anyone out there know the procedure to being reinstated?
i have been df'd for almost 5 years now and i'm considering... possibly getting reinstated.
however, i have been to a few meetings in the last few weeks and i am constantly ignored (i thought the elders were allowed to talk to me... there are at least 10 elders) also, i enquired about getting a bible study and was told that i could not have a bible study because df'd people do not get studied with.

You can skip all this reinstatement bullshit. Just move to a different city, contact a Kingdom Hall, tell them you want to have a bible study, pretend that you don't know shit, work toward baptism, and voila! You're back in!
LOL LOL LOL
I never thought of that!

anyway my mom has shunned me ever since.

I don't have kids, so what the hell do I know.
My only idea is....is it possible for you to "adopt" grandparents for your child? Are there some older neighbors or friends that would fill that role?
Me, I'm at the point where blood relation means very little. If people want a relationship because they care about me--not out of some sense of obligation because we're related--then I'll have a relationship with them. If not, it doesn't bother me. My mother semi-shuns me and I really don't care. In fact, she is so toxic and whacked, I appreciate keeping as much distance as possible. I know most people don't feel as I do though, and it's hell to feel hurt.

I used to
have a friendknow this JW who had been DFd something like 3x and reinstated each time. She used to claim that each time she'd be "out", she'd lose weight because of all her anxiety, and whenever she was "in", she'd gain it back because she was "so happy". Yeah, OK Maureen. Maybe it was the total lack of pleasure in the JW life except eating. (Did you guys ever notice that every JW social event centers on food?) -

1975 and all that

this was around 1973 and 1975 fever was starting to take over many individuals.

It seemed the lady was a medium and the previous evening had settled down to have a comfy chat with her spirit guide when she was advised that all contacts were on hold. She tried again and again and eventually got through only to be told,"I cannot answer your questions, we are all getting ready for Armageddon."
That is totally hysterical! Maybe the demons were tricking the medium into saying that, so she'd tell the JW, and let the gossip mill spread it around. Or maybe the woman wasn't a medium at all, she was just f^cking with the JW's mind. LOL
