The Social Structure in the Congregation
by Mary inever notice how the "happiest people on earth" are also the most class-oriented?
to say that jesus said his followers should all be on equal footing, it's incredible how much the r&f witness is not on equal footing.
the social structure in the congregation is more complex than the blueprints of a nuclear warhead, but just so that you "remember your place", see if you can find where your niche was/is:

You forgot to mention that anyone who has/is any of the following, no matter which category they fit into, has lowered social status:
-Being the child or spouse of an ?unbelieving? person
-Having a DFd family member (current or past), DAd, or Reproofed
-Having a mental illness or a family member with one

Do you ever DEFEND Witnesses?
by GetBusyLiving ini know i come on here a lot and laugh at the crazy stuff i used to believe.. it's a terrific place to vent my frustration at the org.
and share experiences with people who understand.
but i find that when some people trash talk witnesses who were never part of it i end up sort of defending them usually.

How do I react? I one-up them. "So you think you know bad stuff about JWs? I know even worse stuff...."

When you use the words "church" and "passover", it sounds like you really were never a jw. A jw would never call "The Memorial" "Passover". Just curious about that. Was that intentional?
Your parents may be getting a tongue-lashing about you not being in the cult any more. They've greatly increased their socialization with fellow members recently; they may be experiencing some snubbing themselves--a loss of social status due to having a child that left the org. This is just a guess.
Couldn't you just ask them about it? "Gee mom and dad, you've been acting strangely lately. You are picking on me about petty stuff, such as the color of my daughter's room. <give more examples of strange behavior> Is something wrong?"

I have always been curious about some of the Google ads that appear on this web site. (I know how it works?the webmaster pasts a code, and Google puts up whatever ads they want.) Has there ever been a thread on this topic? I just visited jw connections, which is an internet dating service for dubs advertized with Google ads on this site. It is enough to gag a maggot. Seriously, I hate to mock anyone, but this is just toooo much for me. Can?t resist.
Plus, these guys really need some lessons on how to put their best foot forward. (The following are all in the "brothers" category.)
?I am looking for friends and perhaps that special someone to travel the world with before it blows-up :>?
?Brother, 32, Divorced, but Free to Marry: ? Well, technically I'm not divorced yet, but the paperwork is in progress.? YES, they have a marital status category to register and one is ?Divorced, but free to marry?.
?I am recently Divorce and I am not free to marry at this time. So basically I am limited to having good friends and meeting new people which is why I joined this site. I hope this doesnt discourage sister from writing or talking with me.? Hmmmm?
?would like to find someone to get to know she must love jeh, meeting att, is a must because the meetins are very important?
?A night on the town is cool as well!? Hmmmm?.
?I am here to widen out in my association with true freinds. It is as simple as that. However I am very selective but not unreasonable.? ?????????
?I guess I am here because I'm thinking this may be an avenue to explore. Only time will tell if this is a good decision.?
?I really appreciate all the information found in the WatchTower and Awake literature, especially those topics that deal with split families. I am a self-employed gardener?I've been told by my spiritual brothers and sisters that people like me will be greatly needed when transforming this earth into a paradise.? Ewwww?
?For us as Jehovah's Witnesses, it takes a lot of work and effort to find someone where the attraction is mutual.? Umm, no, it doesn?t! You need not have anything in common besides both being dubs. Why bother with finding out if your personalities or interests are compatible? Just suppress them and they?ll go away.
?Well... ok, i wouldn't shine too much but I'm a former member and I came back to tell my story???then goes on to say he met the woman of his dreams. Odd.
Introduction: ?i hate this?
?I'm here for the simple reason to find a mate and to get married.? I always hated the buzz word ?mate?. It sounds like something about animals.
?Well, I've been in the Truth for about 15 years. Alot of that that unfortunately, to be honest, has been more "token service" than truly real. Even though I've always believed it was the truth, I found it difficult to put my whole heart into it.?

I will grant that maybe the Society SHOULD CARE about the underlying investments and ask the question of where a dollar comes from that is donated to it BUT again no charity or church does that (that I know of) they don't ask an individual how they made the dollar and in this case the Society can't be blamed for refusing the money or asking about the underlying investments or management of the Trust.
I can honestly see both sides on this issue. Eduardo, as an attorney, do you believe it is possible for the WTS to simply refuse to take any donations when they do not know the source? Is it legal to refuse a donation/trust?
You have made some very good points. If it is possible to refuse donations, though, wouldn't it be appropriate for the WTS to do so? If you are an ex-JW, surely you can remember the rules that the individual dubs are expected to follow...If a dub was called into a JC for accepting the proceeds from someone else's investment in tobacco companies, wouldn't he be disfellowshipped? Surely, then, it is not ok (within the JW rules) to accept such a donation...especially since they have flocks of people in NY, PA, and elsewhere who work on their behalf...they have an entire Legal Dept. for instance that could research each donation. They certainly have the resources to know.

Article Allegedly Makes End of the World Predictions re 2034
by rebel8 ini saw someone post about a march 2005 wts publication making thinly veiled threats predictions about 'the end' coming in 2034. now i can't find the thread.
i had heard some talk about this previously, but then was told it was a hoax....wts supposedly had not said anything about it.
then i heard this week a publication just came out that does say it.

The article points out supposed similarities between Noah's time and our own, but I do not see a link established for a time period . No dub of my acquaintaince has made a connection in this way and there has been nothing more in print.
I agree the 2003 article isn't specific enough to make a believable claim that the dubs are saying The End is coming in 2034. (Of course, we all know that the mentioning of numbers and dates does have an effect on the dubs. If it didn't, there would be no purpose in mentioning the 120 yrs, would there be? We all know the reason the WTS mentions numbers is because they want people to draw conclusions. Yet they are done in a veiled way so that the individual dubs can be blamed when their predictions don't come true. They accomplish their purpose of increased recruitment, fervor, and increased sales of literature, with none of the blame for making false predictions. You have to admit, it's a brilliant plan.)
Here's another thing:
The issuance of this divine decree in 2490 B.C.E. marked the beginning of the end for that ungodly world. Just think what that meant for those then living! Only 120 years more and Jehovah would bring "the deluge of waters upon the earth
Think about how silly that quote is (2003 article). Are they honestly trying to claim that, when the issuance of a decree in 2490 b.c., everyone said, "Oh. That means we have 120 years left." Whaat kind of logic is that? Even if there was such a decree and the public was made aware of it, how would they have made the connection that their world would end 120 years from then?
But the purpose of my thread was to find out if anyone had the March 2005 publication, which allegedly does draw a specific connection with 2034. You are saying nothing more has been in print, yet someone else said that there was this month. Just trying to determine what was or was not recently in print.

Can a person have his baptism nuliified if he was too young when baptised?
by William Penwell ini know this was discussed not that long ago on here but can a person have his baptism nullified if he was too young when baptized?
the reason i ask is that i have a friend that said he was baptized at 14. i was mentioning that i read somewhere on this and told him i would get back to him.
if so, how does one proceed with doing this and is there a sample letter he could use?

WP, It might be possible. I personally have not seen it in writing though....doesn't mean it isn't in writing somewhere.
Another option for you is to write a letter to your elders requesting all of your records be destroyed. You will be considered to have disassociated if you do.
If a baptized person insists that he does not want to be part of the congregation and requests that his name be removed from all our records, we should comply with his request. Since he takes such an adamant position, encourage him to put his request in writing.
If he refuses to do this but states resolutely before witnesses his decision to disassociate himself and not be known as one of Jehovah's Witnesses, the witnesses to his statement would be asked to put this in writing and sign it.--Pay Attention to Yourselves and to All the Flock, pg. 101

Rjmoss,
Check these WTS references. Keep in mind, even if they are ?old?, you will be hard-pressed to find any printed retraction of these rules. That means they are still active rules.
