TIME WILL TELL (Did you fake your hours in Field Service?)
by Terry ini know for certain that brothers in our congregation often lied about their time on field service reports.
(yes, we had to fill out quota reports back in the old days).
one brother, harry, would dump magazines in the storm drains!

Well to tell my story again, briefly after high school I was enrolled as a regular pioneer. (I say "I was enrolled" rather than "I enrolled" because I was told I was to become a pio, it's not something I chose.)
In the beginning, I'd fake my hours. I would only get maybe 20 hours in a month and I was supposed to do 90. After a while, I stopped lying and put the correct #, which dwindled each month. It got down to 5, then 0. I was wondering when I'd be kicked off the roles as a pio, but never was. They just kept calling me a pio. I finally told the
copsElders that I would no longer be attending meetings. They asked if I wanted to pioneer anyways! Gimme a break. Must have been desperate to claim they had a pioneer in the cong. Then they demanded my pioneer ID card....I laughed. As if I was going to go around showing it to people. -

I haven't met a Law & Order I didn't like. When it finally degrades to "Law & Order: Meter Maid Patrol", I may have to bow out.
Do you like the SVU episodes? I don't. Too sick.

This is from the Elder's manual (pretty vague):
When an individual is reinstated, he will still need much
spiritual assistance.- The elders should see that definite arrangements are made
to help the person regain spiritual health and strength.
(Col. 2:7; Titus 2:1, 2)- They may arrange for a Bible study to be conducted,
which would be reported as field service.
- They may arrange for a Bible study to be conducted,
- Restrictions should be imposed to help the person see the
need of continuing to make 'straight paths for his feet' and
also out of consideration for the congregation's
conscience. (Heb. 12:13)- The privilege of sharing in the field service is restored
when the individual is reinstated.other privileges, such as commenting at meetings,
handling parts on the program, and offering prayer at
meetings, can be restored progressively when it is
determined that the individual has progressed spiritually
to the point that he is qualified and when it is judged by
the elders that the extending of such privileges will not be
offensive to the congregation.- It will be up to the elders of the congregation where he
now is located to decide when certain privileges may be
restored.
- It will be up to the elders of the congregation where he
- The privilege of sharing in the field service is restored
Circumstances of each case govern the length of time that should elapse before recommending a reinstated brother for additional privileges and responsibility.
- Carefully consider possible effects if the individual were
to be appointed. Would it be a cause for stumbling among
the brothers?
The privilege of serving as ministerial servant or elder can
be recommended only after he has had ample time to
prove himself to be irreprehensible and is again "free from
accusation" and has "freeness of speech." ( 1 Tim. 3:2, 9,
10, 13)- He must live down the reproach and build up a convincing
record of righteousness, which may take a number of
years. If wrongdoing occurred in another congregation, the
feelings of members of that congregation should be
considered.
In cases of scandal, he might not be able to live down
his wrongdoing sufficiently to qualify for an appoint-
ment to serve as a ministerial servant or an elder for a
very long time.

I was single at the time I left the dubs, so only my relationships with my siblings and mother were affected. My relationship with them was always troubled. My mother is still one of the b0rg and I've intentionally set significant limits on how much contact I have with her, because she is not healthy for me. My sibs faded years ago but are JW apologists to this day, they are more toxic than ever and I have nothing to do with them.
Yes, my family relationships have changed, but all for the better. I am much, much happier this way than when I was a dub being forced to "honor my mother" and whatever dumb quote they use to force you to keep interacting with your toxic siblings. Now I have a choice about my sanity rather than following rules that kept me in depressing, unhealthy relationships.

The comments about sex are very interesting. Who other than ex-JWs have such problems? I mean, the ideal is supposed to be that you save yourself for someone special and wait until you're in your teens or early 20s. Yet the JW lifestyle and warped teachings talk about the evils of sex--even desiring it is wrong--and force people to wait until they're married....For some people, this turns something beautiful into something harmful that needs to be "gotten rid of". How sad (but true)....another consequence of being a dub.
Why would she need to pay an "escort" though? Just go down to your local bar and there's plenty willing to do it for free (joking).
PS-Prostitution is not legal in the entire state of Nevada either, only rural areas (according to the Discovery Channel). Just an FYI.

Overcoming Legalism and Performance Based Religion
by diamondblue1974 ini work with a devout christian which does make for interesting debates and she has allowed me to borrow yet another book.
crosby, s silent killers of faith:overcoming legalism and performance based religions), 2004.. i am not sure as to whether anyone has read it or knows about it but it goes into some detail as to legalistic and performance based religions and its affect on their followers; whilst jw's are not mentioned directly i found it came up with some startling and frighteningly similar analogies and to the jws.. for example it mentioned organisations that demonstrate a high degree of control over their followers such as what to wear, where to eat...and the affects these legalistic rules have on them.
effects such as depression, other mental health problems, and ultimately suicide in the more extreme of circumstances.. doesnt this ring any bells with anyone in terms of all that we have suffered as a jw?.

How does the term performance-based fit into the topic of religion in the author's view? Is it something similar to the JWs with those who put more hrs into FS being more popular and higher up on the spiritual/social scale?

Drawing unfair comparisions-Convention talk on Tues night
by Jez intuesdays meeting had a part about the upcoming summer convention.
alot of q n a about how to dress, to wear your lapel at all times, to be clean, to not eat out bec the worldly vendors would be upset that they are not allowed to sell food inside the arena, to watch your language, conduct at the motels, to walk quietly, to not be in the halls during the sessions, informal witness at every opportunity etc.
then this man comments and says, "what other religion would clean up the arena before and after a convention?

Just look at how much garbage was left at St.Peters Square after the inaguration of the new pope. There was a ton of garbage. How much better are Jehovahs people!"
LOL. Such a stupid thing to say. Didn't it occur to them that all the jillions of people in St. Peter's Sq were not Catholic, either? Some people like to go to historical events.
