JW's living in a community go about their business quietly and non violently. They don't riot or stone people. And while I don't care a wit about the JW religion I do understand that they are acting according to their beliefs. And apart from shunning their own they are as harmless as JC and boys were some 2000 years ago. If notorious means you screwed up God's name and your knocking on a Jewish person's door with bible in hand then Israel hasn't changed since Jesus day.

I agree with what you're saying, Giordano, to a point.

They aren't really that harmless. Neither are some Jews (though I have no idea what they do in Israel). Both are acting in accordance with their beliefs.

xians have an imperative to convert. I imagine the Jews are pretty sick of that by now, and not too eager to allow it. Can't say I blame them.

i had a bunch of tiny little nags that always bothered me about the bible/god/etc.

that eventually led to me drifting away, but this was my personal, singular issue that no one could address.

Not one thing--I had tried to believe the entire time I was in.

In the 1980s, they published 2 batshit insane books we had to study--one on evolution, the other on Revelation.

I hadn't been allowed to take science courses, but the little I did know conflicted with what was in the evolution book. I looked up a few original sources and found wts had deliberately misquoted them.

Later, we studied that big red Revelation book. It reads like something a person wrote while suffering a severe delusional, disorganized psychotic episode. Word salad.

The math problems were hilarious. This year plus this holy number times the number of times Moses took a dump in the desert.

I tried doing the math problems myself and it never even added up to the number they thought. It's as though they couldn't be bothered to put any effort into inventing doctrines that were internally consistent.

I remember telling people they don't add up, and people looked at me wide-eyed, saying I might be losing the spirit if I can't understand. What masterful brainwashing, that.

To play the devil's advocate (or to ask an obvious question, depending upon your perspective), how is this deceptive if the name they used means Watchtower?

The lease was for "daily afternoon activities". What is that? Field service meeting? They could have just used someone's home.

A woman I knew once wore a turban out in fs and she happened to be photographed for the news. It was the 1970s when that sort of thing was groovy. The congs were given a special needs talk about sticking to prarie wear and polyester suits so as not to stumble the worldly people. She ended up leaving the org not long after that--good for her.

My point is this guy is in no way an obedient jw or one in good standing, based on his clothing, grooming, and poor choice of fs tactic. I am wondering if this is a panhandling technique from a non-jw.

does that mean i am gay?'.

this has to be one of the most remarkable pieces of logic (last paragraph of the article).. the bibles stand is not unreasonable.

IMHO there's a difference between not personally preferring or enjoying something on the screen vs. judging it to be immoral.

I saw a program about a certain sexual fetish once. I can't fathom why anyone would like to do that. I don't personally prefer it. I don't enjoy watching it. If I ever happen to come across it again, I will not watch it. But they're consenting adults and it's not immoral.

Purple triangle

an idea just came to me and i wanted to propose it here.

should ex jws adopt the purple triangle as their own symbol?

i think it would spread the message that the watchtower is behaving like the nazis.

Interesting idea. It would certainly spark some emotions among certain jws who know what it is.

Originally intended as a badge of shame, the pink triangle (often inverted from its Nazi usage) has been reclaimed as an international symbol of gay pride and the gay rights movement, and is second in popularity only to the rainbow flag.

Many epithets have been co-opted to mean a sense of solidarity or pride among members of a persecuted group.

When I think of the purple triangle, I think, compassionately, of brainwashed people who were manipulated into being sacrificial lambs to a cult that was snuggling up to the enemy, led by an egomaniac who would do anything for persecution-themed publicity. I was not in a concentration camp, but my life was nearly sacrificed and I was financially, physically & emotionally abused quite a bit. Many of us experienced that and more. I dunno, I don't think a purple triangle is disrespectful to those who died.

Again, I think it would just be recognized by certain jws. My efforts are aimed at non-jws, so I'm not sure if it would be useful to me personally, but perhaps it would be to those who are trying to reach jws.

That article is toned down compared to how it was back in the day. They told us it was developed, as one would develop a fetish.

Poor, brainwashed fellow. A normal person, asked to do such a video that includes pantomime of female and male masturbatory acts, would say, "Oh hell to the no." And then he'd excuse himself and you'd never see him again.
