  Have you noticed the common practice is to knock indivual's self esteem?

  in another thread, one of our members made a comment that caught my attention.. i have been trying to put my finger on a practice amongst the org and witnesses in general.... as soon as someone does something well, accomplishes something, or excels at something, the atmosphere effectiveley 'kicks them in the gut' to bring them down.. anything that makes a person grow or develop is blatently discouraged and therefore self esteem is squashed!.

  the constant message telling a witness to be 'humble' is designed to suck any sense of growth or 'betterment' out of a person..... therefore this leaves the average witness to be a blubbering mess of insecurity and instability completely dependant on the organization...kind of like a 'battered-wife' scenario.... .

  Yes it's very similar to domestic violence relationships. That's why when people here say they must find a therapist who understands jws, I say the therapist's job is not doctrine, it's treating psychological dysfunction, and they are very familiar with our sort of dysfunction.

  It was prohibited for puffing up with pride (putting a single individual as the center of attention is wrong) and because Pagans had celebrations of fertility (motherhood) in Spring.

  Anyhoo, happy day to all those who are estranged from their kids because of the cult. You are probably much better moms now than you ever were when you were "in".

  So I'm riding in our neighborhood with mr. rebel8 and girls in casual maxi dresses (stripes, jersey fabric) and flip flops walk by. He says, "They must be going to prom." He thought this because of the hemline. (I've had several maxi dresses/skirts for a few yrs & wear them regularly, NOT to prom.)

  When I was in, I used to comment, "The magazine says_____," because paraphrasing might give the appearance my words=my agreement.

  Then I stopped commenting altogether.

  it's mother's day today, a lovely tradition that probably raises lots of thoughts and emotions in ex jws... i was walking around the local supermarket and remembered my family's next door neighbours, who were very intellectually disabled.. in hindsight they probably weren't able to look after themselves, as they lived in absolute squalor.. they didn't have two coins to rub together, yet they went to the effort to buy my family a card and get them a small gift.. i was newly out, and watched in absolute shame and horror as my mother said, in a very superior manner " we don't celebrate christmas", .

  it's something i think of often with shame... i too was that superior... to my shame..

  That is such a horrible story. jws don't have basic social skills. The need to feel superior to others and recruit others at every moment overpowers basic decency.

  Can someone back up and explain what's happened?

  And please post a copy of the form. I'd like to pledge to give lots of money within my lifetime, and then on my deathbed, change it to soon.

  Kinda like "it's so close you won't be able to finish college", then "within this 20th century", then "um, soon".
