US Air Force to Atheist: Say God in oath or dont re-enlist

an atheist airman is being denied the ability to re-enlist in the us air force because he refuses to use the word god in his oath of office, according to the american humanist association (aha).. the unnamed member of the air force refused to take the oath containing so help me god, wanting a secular affirmation instead.

so he crossed out the phrase on his contract.

the airman was told by his superiors that he must swear to god or leave the air force, the aha said in a press release.

Working for JW's

just interested in experiences any of you have had working for other witnesses or companies owned by witnesses.

i heard mutterings occassionally from other witnesses they would never work for another witness.

regardless of anything i said, the owner was adamant in his refusal to believe i had ever done anything more than being a delivery driver.

A very long time ago, yes. I got hired to be in sales and run the office. They asked me if I was dfd in the interview and said point blank they would not hire me if I was.

They weren't paying me the commission I earned--kept saying they would once they got caught up on their bills--so I was totally poor. I won a bunch of food from a vendor in a contest--I won it, not their company. The owner's daughter called the vendor to change the delivery date to my day off. I called the vendor to let them know the delivery didn't show up and they told me what happened. I confronted the owner (Elder) and he said they had a get-together and fed it all to their jw friends--he felt NO responsibility to compensate me at all.

Once I went on a business breakfast, in a restaurant, with a male vendor rep and the owners said I was not to be unchaperoned again like that or I would be fired.

They were HORRIBLE at running their business and it was near closing. So of course they hired a guy who had no skills to be a helper for me. And then they laid me off and kept him. He was a jw. They told me to come in and work for free while receiving Unemployment. I was really young and didn't know I wasn't supposed to, so I did it a few days and then didn't qualify for Unemployment for those days. Screwed again. (Employers are supposed to know this.) That food would have come in handy.

Never paid me the commission they owed me.

I think they went belly up.

Usually they just state the opposite of the previous teaching without saying, "We're changing something." Many examples here--look these up in publications to verify for yourself.

When did they say loud and clear that they changed these things, for example?

I've read publications from many decades, and I cannot remember one instance of the wts saying, "Hey, we changed our beliefs." Not once.

Observations from a day at the zoo

so we went to calgary zoo today and i'm torn between zoo's being great for conservation vs using animals to make money.

i think on the whole they are a good thing but it's sad to see some of the animals caged up - somehow i always end up staring into the eyes of a gorilla and it makes me sad.. but that isn't what struck me ... it's these things:.

I agree--it's nice to see wildlife rehabs when animals have been injured (if treated nicely) and perhaps a few who are protecting animals from hunting. Most zoos I've been to are not like that and I think I'm done visiting zoos.

But then, most of us are sensitive to creatures not being free.

yes the god of the bible has done his share of being a murderous bully(according to the mythology found in the book), his holly motto seems to be through out: "do what i say or i will kill you".

of coarse cringing christian's because of their fear of the deity will proclaim that all these acts of slaughter that the bible ascribes to god as an act of love, and chime in with approval and superlatives when 1john 4:8* is read.

and i atribute it mainly to god being a bully in the bible and threatening to kill every one not having faith in him.. 8 l anyone who does not love does not know god, because m god is love.. .

The conflict of living in a divided home is finally getting to me - 8 years later - advice please

to cut my long story short, having left the religion in 2006, my marriage with 2 young kids involved went through a fairly difficult time.

for a few years.

as i rebelled against the belief system i was astonished that having pointed out reasonable & logical objections, my wife just stood by the religion.

You have to do what's right for you, obviously. You only get one life. If it's of any help to you, as a kid I used to secretly hope my parents would split up so I could live with my normal parent and not be borgified. I silently realized very early that the religion was nuts, even though I was brainwashed/fearful it could be true, and talking the party line. Of course kids will have different reactions and yours may not feel that way.

Good luck with whatever path you end up taking. I imagine the path will go between a rock and a hard place. (( ))

has anyone had success with a high traffic website or blog ?.

it might take a team of people to accomplish.. ads pay and people count, lots and lots of people.

does jehovahs-witness.net make money every time someone looks at the web site?

One time, I asked Simon if he had a way for members to send him a few bucks (if they wanted to) or if we could all click a few ads once in a while to support the site. He declined. So what we have is a clear indication he is not trying to profit from this site, and a total absence of evidence contradicting that.

This "attracting xians to the site" accusation is interesting. I wonder if the OP has cookies that make her see xian ads when she comes here. I see shoes.
