i was discussing the 1914 "this generation" doctrine with my jw mother the other day and she said something that made me laugh my head off.
i told her that the wts were wrong on this belief so why does she put so much faith in them.
she told me that jw's were not wrong on this believe but just back off being so dogmatic about it but that they still feel that the generation of 1914 will see the end come.
they probably have to wait for the "generation of 1995" to die off a bit.
1995? have I missed something else? lol - and I NEVER knew where the 1975 thing came from - I just had to accept it as a FACT. Now I see it's just bad maths with no foundation.
i am just interested in if the books are ''closed'' - or may a vacancy arise if one drops out?
(this is what i understood from my youth) - if so, and a ''new'' anointed emerges, is it ever known who he/she is replacing?
if not, then there could always be those professing to be anointed on earth this all seems a bit vague to me...does anyone understand my ramblings?

when i was a devout jw i would literally look at "apostates" picketing the assemblies and want to spit at them because i hated them that much and felt that they were of satan.
i remember one time i saw an "apostate" walking from the assembly and a friend of mine an myself were actually talking about confronting him and telling him off.
i just cannot believe how much i hated "apostates" when i was a jw.
It's a very clever defence mechanism the JWs have though - as every time they are ''attacked'', it reinforces their belief that they are God's People........have had this said to me soooo many times.
i went to take my daughter to school today and right at the end of her line was a jw with her child.
seeing as i had to take my child to her line, i had to stand very close to her.
i seen her out of the corner of my eye looking at me.
It's self - preservation (on THEIR part) - and so they can FEEL superior, because they AREN'T.

enough of the wts intimidation and getting away with all sorts of crap.
we, "the people", have more power than they, "the establishment", do.. this year i propose that we make ourselves heard and noticed.
that as many people as possible protest at their beloved memorial - the one event that is "most sacred" to them.. i am not suggesting that we disrupt or do anything illegal but simply that we exercise our right to take up their offer of free wine and make a statement.. go, drink.
And I'm not suggesting this (Heaven forbid!) - but wouldn't it be fun to take along all your mates from the Tourettes Society?!

there is an elder and his wife who have upset so many with cruel/biting comments.
one family of 14 moved away because of them.
.....and 4 of the other 5 elders are ALL in his social 'clique'? WHY? Do you sense that maybe they are afraid NOT to be?...and how is the remaining Elder treated?
I agree with Outlaw, I know it's tempting, but don't do anything rash. Have a think about it.

Just read your article Gary - super read - and got me thinking. I believe the ''END'' was prophesied for 1914 - and from what I've read there have been other dates. My PERSONAL experience was 1975 - which became 1976 as that year came to a close, (which recently a JW DENIED that 1975 was ever prophesied as a date for A ) . What I'd like to know is - have the JW gone from one date to another? ie, when 1914 passed, was another date announced? I also have a vague recollection of 1980 - something. And what was the last date prophesied (and with WHAT logic?) and is there a next one ? - sorry for droning on

Have to say, Fairmind, your comment about ''acting on own conscience'' I don't think really exists - it's just a ploy to make JWs believe they ARE allowed to make decisions.
