i recently got into a discussion regarding shunning in the jws.
i have a few questions in this regard.
does jws tell their people that there are certain people should be shunned?.
Who are the people that should be shunned?
I believe it's just disfellowshipped ones who 'should' be shunned - but in my PERSONAL experience, I have been shunned after simply not attending anymore (only by a particular few). I think they're a Law unto themselves.

some religions which have been on the fringe of society are eventually accepted into the mainstream because they have an aspect which is socially acceptable or beneficial to society.
for example, the seventh day adventists have hospitals and the mormons have the tabernacle choir.
but the jws seem to have nothing with which to appeal to the larger culture.
Never! 'We are no part of the World!' I believe is a phrase they're proud of using.

hi, i am new to this site.
i have been an ex- jw for about 10years now, and this is the first time i have done this.
( trying to avoid the "apostate" label) haha i would love to hear from some ex- jw's, and see if they have and are going thru some of the same experiences that i am.

you may remember i posted two days ago about a ten-page jw tsunami report that was e-mailed to me.
it consisted of about three separate letters.
since the report was so long, i tried to copy and paste some of the quotes from a word document and only got two out of seven.
1) will make the best use of this terrible disaster to give a good witness."2) if they were at the meetings, then, they may have been all right.
1) Make best use of? As in 'a nice little earner for the WTBTS'.?
2) How can ANYONE justify these, or any, deaths like this? CRUEL. What about the JW that died in the 9/11 - or any OTHER disaster? I find this logic intolerable, sorry.
well, not surprised, i have been telling them and others who ask that the org is hugely corrupt, apostate, blasphemers, hypocrites etc.
maybe because i told someone about the un thing and she may have told someone else, or maybe they're just spring-cleaning.
at any rate they(2 elders ) came round unannounced and beat about the bush in a pitiful way.i put them out of their misery eventually, by telling them that in no way did i consider myself a jw, nor did i believe the gb were god's mouthpiece.i said a lot more besides, i re-informed one, informed the other all about the un thing and offered him proof - no - he didn't want to see.
Great Attitude Meatpie - didn't think you get disfellowshipped for being honest oh well.I also thought that the idea of asking if you considered yourself JW was instrumental in the D'f thing.
with the imminent demise of the awake, being 'simplified' to a monthly journal; which monthly journal would be your magazine of choice - national geographical or awake?
i read national geographic - it is well researched, it has fantastic photographs, and is printed on quality paper.
with all the resources available to the wtbts, why hasn't the awake gotten any better?
