you can lie to me if you like, Im not going to know"
TheEdge --
That's a bit of an ambiguous statement. I think (maybe?) you're reading it as an invitation to lie - but he probably just means that no one knows the truth unless they are witness to it, so your word has to be taken.
inquirer -- I suppose it depends on the tone (lol -- sounds like a Seinfeld situation.) The problem with this statement is that it sounds like he's encouraging her to lie. He should be straight and easy to understand!
It's the most stupid statement I have ever heard!!! (lol -- I am sorry I can't stop laughing!) I mean what if I said to my wife: "Do you love me (you can lie to me if you like?") ...I just can't see that happening in real life!!!!! There would be an argument about it. And she would think the relationship wasn't brought up upon truth. This is the key ingredient to any kind of relationship! Business or romantic or something else, you know.

Elder said I could Lie
by Es inlast week my ex husband sent a letter to the elders telling each and every one of them just what he felt about them.
as they were d/f him he figured this was his last chance.
in his letter he stated that as i had scriptural reason for divoce, so did he.

Sorry, it can be frustrating sometimes when my posts are not read properly. It can really put a "bad spin" on what I originally said/meant.
And if I want to get a particularly book, it's up to me. Goodness me, I may get that "who wrote the Bible" book sometime. It may have some interesting words about it. -

Can it work both ways?
by inquirer inam i allowed to discuss to people why i belief in most of their doctrines still?
because i have noticed people always want me to believe in their stuff, can it work the other way around?
because you should be able to be on a "level playing field.

under74, did you read what I said? I prefer "critical analyse" topics! I didn't say just based on the Bible!!!!! As far as I know, this Raymond Franz is being very critical of the JW's -- and I really want to know what he says!

:But I believe who wrote the Bible are the authors mentioned back in the New World Translation. So maybe I shouldn't get it then.
Huh? You're saying you shouldn't read something because it conflicts with your preconcieved notions? That attitude will take you far! :rolls eyes:

For crying out allowed! I don't have to get something if I don't believe it! I've already made up my mind about that kinda thing!
I am starting to notice, people on this message board are trying to dictate my beliefs! I've never dictated on this message board -- not even once! I've always respected other people's opinions, even though at times I don't agree with them!
I hope I can get people to agree with what I mean with what beliefs I accept, because people are trying to get me to take away all my beliefs! I don't mind, but I hope it works "the other way round," and have people look down on me.
It's just rotten eggs at the moment. :( -

If you had something reasonable to say! I would! :D ha ha ha
WAIT! I am not having a go at you I am just being hypothetical about it all alright! Honest! I am not angry at you, just having a discussion, alright?
You said: "People like me think they are false. But they are written in a "God wrote this" style. aka - a religious holy book!
the bible is written in the same style. where's the difference?"
Inquirer: You have to decide what is holy or what isn't. I said in the other post that philosophy is just a man thing, so how can it be from God? People that wrote those Apocryphal books knew that they weren't from God. They were just giving their opinion. It's more clear cut with Buddha writings.
You can think anything is false, no worries ok? -

And what's that other book, that one about who wrote the Bible or something? Yeah, might get that too. Someone recommended someone like me should get that book after. Maybe I will or won't. But I believe who wrote the Bible are the authors mentioned back in the New World Translation. So maybe I shouldn't get it then.

Refusing magazines/books from JW relatives
by JustTickledPink inrecently my mother dropped in on us and in front of other people, very nicely handed me some trinkets aka dust collectors for my house and some wts magazines.
the way she handed everything to me at once i just held out my hands and took it all.. i threw the magazines away immediately, i consider them trash and don't even want them around... but then decided exactly what i was going to do.
i am going to buy a yard sale cross or virgin mary statue and give it to my mom.. i specifically told her i don't want any publications and she slipped them in anyways.... so, on that note, she hates any religious icons, i am going to give her something that she doesn't want.

Have the same prob with my JW mother. Have been asking her for 15+ years to stop sending me stuff. Believe me, I am all for good manners. However, there is a point at which it's appropriate to stand up for oneself. When repeated requests to stop giving offensive materials are ignored, that is one of those times.
It all hit the fan when she sent a card addressed to my new husband (not to me), full of witnessing. (It was soooo whacky, BTW, of the "call the men with the straightjackets" variety. I had mentioned to mom that DH had taken a vacation day off to unwind because he had been working so hard. She wrote about what a great "employer" the big J is, how he doesn't cause stress for his "employees", how she wishes he would convert to being a JW, etc. I wish I could have taken a photo of the look on my husband's face when he was reading it. Priceless!)
I ripped up the letter, put it in a Christmas envelope, wrote a note saying I would no longer be accepting any written materials from her. Tries to give me stuff, I inspect the parcel thoroughly before accepting it. Anything mailed is marked "return to sender, refused" and mailed back. I told her if she continues, I will cut off all contact with her. Since then, she has been behaving herself, but I know it's only a matter of time, and I plan on keeping my promise.
That event is what spurred me on to join these apostate boards and begin writing a book about leaving the JWs. So I guess it had a positive outcome after all, just not the one mom had hoped for!

This makes me upset this! What kind of people are they! It just becomes spam after a while... if you don't believe it. I think that put a "bad spin" on Jehovah God. :( It's not a good witness at all! And no pun intended at all!!!
