oldflame:
They proceeded to tell me that any religion that takes away from the true diety of Christ are not sold in Christian book stores. Sounded pretty good to me and made perfect sense. After all I was in a Christian book store and knowing full well that they are not christians, I left in agreement and was glad to see that true christians were being protected in those book stores. So that might be why you could not find the book you were looking for.
I think these Christian bookstores are just discriminating against Jehovah's Witnesses! Can't have your own point of view! No, no, everyone must either have the sign of the cross or denounce Catholicism! You can't buy "niche books."
Why is it that as a pro-NWT person, I can also pick up a protestant NRSV and a Catholic NAB and enjoy just as much? I see Catholic teachings in the appendix of the NAB and don't think it's wrong and somehow I should correct them. Same with the NWT, it has teachings in the appendix that I don't agree with. I just think it's there beliefs. Everyone has got a hidden agenda, including JW's.
I am sure the Greek scholar Jason BeDuhn (who wrote Truth in Translation), who like me likes the NWT and other Bibles would not like this bias, discriminating reasoning!
It's like what Ray says [paraprased]"everyone has a right to know about what happens in the WTS."

JW Literature-why not public?
by AllAlongTheWatchtower inthis might be old hat to those of you with more experience in the wts/witness life, but it struck me as very odd, perhaps even a bit sinister.
i started coming here so i could find out just what my wife was getting herself into.
on my first day here, i learned about the blood doctrine, and that was enough to convince me.

If they had released the New World Translation in full in 1961 at the most popular book stores, I would say it would have the same attention received for it that the Davinci Code! Millions would have bought it! I reckon it's a jolly good idea to see it at normal book stores and not just at WTS publishing houses.
I use to work for a JW. He owned a small business and he use to place Watchtower magazine on the lower shelf, so why not put WTS publications in an actual book store (like Australia's Dymocks) and let everyone know?!
I got my Catholic New American Bible at Dymocks. And I am glad it is accesible.
I am kinda lucky getting the original American Standard Version. I got it at the Australia Bethel. But that's only because I live in Sydney! It would have been pretty hard to get otherwiese! Maybe I could have got it at the Kingdom Hall, but that would have taken a gamble. I could have got the ASV online... But that's not the point. It should be widely available.
And I agree with the previous poster! WHY NOT HAVE A JEHOVAH'S WITNESS FOR DUMMIES!!!!! Fair dinkum mate!!!!!!
But, another poster said it's about 55% of the profits going to the "wrong people." "Worldly people," that is. But I am sure they could work out some agreement.
I guess the answer is, is to go to a Kingdom Hall before the meeting starts... But that's no good, because that's a brainwashing session. They start to do that pretend "welcoming stuff." But that's not the point either. Because they aren't exactly open to the public from 9-5 pm, 5 days a week! And if I wanted to get a leather-bound Bible, I would have to order it. That's what happened last time I was a JW.....
Everything should be available when you want it.... Sorry to repeat myself... -

SHOULD I PIONEER OR COLLEGE?
by stillAwitness indo you think the wt has become more lenient or stricter over the year?.

girls my age, we had plans to be ft pioneers and become secretaries.

I guess it's more logical to go to College because it's knowledge.
My "college" was the research on the JW's. Thanks to this site I looked at Crisis of Conscience.
I looked at your profile. If you researched the JW's, you should continue research that eventually (hopefully) gives you $$$$. -

I wanted to believe it, but never really did. I did believe in God for a while though and always figured that he was going to eventually vaporize me for my lack of faith. I always thought he hated me because I couldn't be like the kid's in the Watchtower and Awake. Happily anyway. -

Why the Mainstream Media's reluctance to publish WTS vs Quotes battle?
by EscapedLifer1 inwe were unable to generate any interest the first go-around with the wts threatening quotes, and now it seems the mainstream media is for the most part ignoring us again.. i have also sent out numerous releases and letters to local media outlets (newspaper, tv, etc.
) prior to a number of district conventions, and never got any kind of response nor did i ever see anything anything printed or broadcast except the "fluff" pieces they do about the convention, baptism, drama, blah, blah.
after reading several local articles, from several different cities, reciting how much $$$$ the conventions bring to each city, i have a feeling that, at least these cases regarding the dc's, the media doesn't want to go after a large contributor to the local economy.. but, what about this case, the lawsuit against quotes?

To most people, the JW's are nothing of importance.
There are a few splinter groups of Bible Students these days and deny they came from Jehovah's Witnesses. No one cares about them! If it wasn't for the Internet, I would not have known that they still exist!
Really, people only talk about really major groups like Catholics and Anglicans... because they are so flaming big! Everyone knows about them! They have 100's of millions of members to their faiths. And most of the time, even then they talk about paedophiles, loss of membership which is all negative, anyway. JW's are about as popular as baked beans! Look at 99% of the people on this message thread and in the media too! -

"The preaching work would have to be organized"
by Check_Your_Premises ini think witness often confuse the subject of "organized" or "order" with human concepts of these words.
for instance a forest might look highly random in it's placement of trees.
on the other hand, the trees are placed according to very hard and certain rules that decide where a tree can receive enough water, light, and nutrients to survive.

"The preaching work would have to be organized" You have to say it with the NOW... right tone! The typical JW tone. I never lived in America, but I remember the typical Witness tones in Australia.
" THE (slight pause) preaching work (deep tone) would have to be organized. " (say this bit at moderate speed.)
NOW... as a Jehovah's Witness (slight pause) , we know (deep tone) we are full filling prophecy because ... (sound demanding -- like if you don't think we are fulfilling prophecy you must be a Santanic cult follower and will die in the lake of fire sort of thing.)
There tones are very distinct! Like this Catholic cardinal from Australia... he has "big tones" in his voice. -

John the Baptist wasn't Organised, he couldn't even organise a square meal for himself, but lived off honey and locusts, but we can hardly say he wasn't successful could we?
