What "Scripture" or "theme" would you suggest for the JW's for 2006

every year the jw's have a new theme "scripture" written on the wall near the stage.. what would you suggest for 2006?.

"Watchtower" - Why did Russell REALLY choose that name?

i cant find reference to that anywhere.
it is interesting that the witnesses legal corporation is also watchtower bible and tract society.

Actually, the word "Watchtower" appears many times in the Hebrew Scriptures. Other translations render it this way too, maybe he was impressed by medieval architecture and thought about monarchy-like settings about castles and things as well, and thought the idea of a watchtower in a castle is cool or something.
Charles may have been more linient than the army general Rutherford, but he still has blood guilt for starting up this organization! :( I MEAN, WHAT WAS HE THINKING! -

Also, on a more humorous note: Why was the form "Iehovah" used in that Indiana Jones movie "Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade", YOu can bet your life the director knows this is the true pronunciation! Why would he use it in his film?

Uh no that's not the reason. Watch the film again, they spelt the name jehovah in latin which is iehovah. You realized that it's just a movie, right?

It might be true, it's only a movie, but movies influence popular opinion! People copy lines from movies all the time. And this was one of those "big time" movies. The script writer who put that in, already had that "preconceived thought" in his head. And then just put it in the movie and didn't think it was a big deal and really did think it's how you say God's name. Steven Spielberg puts his "thumbs up" and then they film that as usual.
I remember in this training session with a Jewish woman. She said she was from Israel. And I wrote the tetragrammaton (for a bit of fun) on the page [the usual Hebrew square script] and she said "That's Jehovah, isn't it?" "How do you spell it in English?" I said the usual 7 letter spelling "J-E-H-O-V-A-H." She certainly didn't say "Yahweh," it's that "preconceived thought" as usual... and she wasn't even religious! She was pretty young only too, only about 20-ish.
{I suppose you all think I am a bit crazy, but I was curious to her reaction, that's all.}
I appreciate all your comments and giving your viewpoint (Narkissos, Leolaia) But I just don't agree and don't wish to discuss it. I just thought mrsjones5 struck a chord about something and typical what movies do to peopel.
I might read over all your comments next time, see what I think then. Doubt if I'll ever change my mind. I'll continue calling up Elohim in prayers as "Jehovah." :)

But I really don't want to debate that "cross issue," or the "divine name issue" on this thread. I just want to thank you and Narkissos for help. And all the others that helped me a bit. Should I get the New Jerusalem Bible?

i've always thought it was a rather good translation, but unhappy at the verse order -- in job some verses have been taken out completely and only used in the footnotes!
this has really got me down, because it's not just in job but they have taken this course in isaiah, habakkuk and many other "minor prophet" books.

I think I won't get it actually if they change the verses. They did it with the NAB, and now I find out they did it with the JB and of course they'll follow suit and do it to the NJB.
I use to think it was very dynamic, but now I think it's too free in style to be a literal translation.
Maybe the footnotes are good, but that's my loss. There are so many Bibles out there, I don't have to stick to just one!
I went out today and tried to print out the World English Bible (I know you can buy it online, but you can only get Psalms + Probverbs and the New Testament -- I went out and today and tried to get it printed because you get the whole thing -- even though it's a draft!) and didn't do it because it cost me $130!!!! It's only 12 point you know!!! I might go back and do it in PDF... otherwise the print shop will cost me heaps more for converting to from Word format!

As you can see we all have different opinions on this subject! I believe that I'm right, while Narki believes that he's right.
But, I think Jehovah is more correct because it sounds like other theophoric names (names that contain the divine name in the Hebrew Scriptures like Jehoash, and Jehosophat and also John.) There's something to think about. Jehovah is at least based on something biblical! Jehovah is telling us because the people in the Bible contain his name! This was the first way to translate this name into English going way back to Tyndale. (same pronunciation different "symbols" -- IEHOUAH...)
Actually the letter "J" was just starting to be used back then, but for some reason, he didn't use it in his translation. Just like in the King James Version, the "Shakespeare English" was already archaic back then, but they chose to use still keep the "thee's," "thine's" and "thou's."
I know Narki is going to disagree, but Jews have always favored the "e, o, a" combination. I think the Bible shows which name is more correct!

Jehovah - Hebrew
Yahweh - Aramaic.They use to write God's name with the Hebrew characters in the Septuagint, so Christians should say "Jehovah" in English.

I've always thought it was a rather good translation, but unhappy at the verse order -- in Job some verses have been taken out completely and only used in the footnotes! This has really got me down, because it's not just in Job but they have taken this course in Isaiah, Habakkuk and many other "minor prophet" books. So what I want to know is does the New Jersualem Bible take out verses or rearrange them? Because if it does, then I won't buy it. :(

Anyone else have people reminisce about the good old days when they had SEVEN day assemblies?? Sort of with the tone of how theocratic we used to be yadda yadda you young people have it easy. Or talk about how they slaved away in the kitchens preparing food for everyone.
Inquirer -- I don't know if you know, but they don't serve in the kitchen anymore. I think it's been like that for the last 10 years or so.
I swear the tones in the speakers' voices are worse when you are at the assembly halls! The microphones and all that really emphasize the speakers too much! And when you are going to the toilet you can still hear the talks... and the pitched changed a little because the echoes bounced around more when you when through different doors... The doors sweaked when you opened the toilet door and you walk down the steps... and you feel kinda nervous and there's the field attendance and you feel like crap because (well I did) your just an ordinary dub.... And when you went back in the assembly hall, you have to "use the other door" so it wouldn't be so distracting. You'd get in your seat and the guy at the platform was hard to see. You'd hurt your eyes looking at him. And everybody use to talk about how good it was to be a JW.... etc. And one of the big boys (circuit overseer -- I can't remember) use to tells us the results of our territory.... and, well you know how it all was...
Just where in the Bible does it talk about having district conventions and assemblies? Why do they make all these things mandatory?
I swear to Elohim, there was only about 10 people baptized last time. Or maybe there were some in the morning session and others in the afternoon session -- I'm starting to lose my memory on things... It's all to make you feel bad. Guilt trip. I swear, it's a requirement to study psychology before becoming a Governing Body member!
All I remember, is those tones they had. It's almost like being in the army really. -

I don't really care if people are "worldy" or not... I am not to judge. I am sure there will be many faiths present in the resurrection... Buddhists, Jews, Muslims, Catholics, 7th Days, Hindus, (Even some non-judgmental JW's!)... there will be quite a few that will come out of every religion and every race as well...
