Another thing: The Bible is as it is. Like that guy on the Skeptics Bible, he obviously has doubts about it. If he makes comments about the verses and has those symobls to show how he feels and thinks it's wrong, that's his choice to do so. If he thinks it's flawed, that's his opinion. It's up to him if he wants to accept or not. That's what the Bible is all about.
Man has made the Bible imperfect. Man can't make one step without making a possible mistake. Man cannot be trusted with anything. So that's why not all the errors have been corrected. But I still don't think it's as flawed as what other people make it out to be.

so you think a "non-religious" point of view is problematic? as for your illustration: i always learned the bible would have been written for everyone... that's also the reason why it was translated.
the SAB is not stupid at all. and it's got nothing to do with moral opinions. it just shows how flawed "god's word" is. you wouldn't disagree on that, would you?

I don't think it's as flawed as what other people think. I have looked into the most common criticisms of it. There are some ?'s but they are on very minor issues.
I meant he is already cynical of the Bible. He's probably one of those people if you explained what a certain Bible passage meant, he would just ignore you. He is only open-minded as far as his cynical mind will let him. It's very disappointing because I have (in the past) tried to explain the so-called contradictions in the Bible, and they just ignore you and become conservative in the process.
The Bible is a religious book. You should read it with a religious frame of mind. It's not suppose to be like a novel. It's not like any ordinary book -- it's suppose to help you with this life and how to get into the next: the kingdom of God.
You can't really say it's right or wrong, you have to accept it as authority. If you tried to read like a man's wisdom book (as an outsider), it doesn't work. Like with the Talmud, it was written by people who "drew" information from the Bible and their own tradition. It's what they think, not what God thinks. And I don't know what their writings are called, but you have wisdom writings in all kinds of religions like Buddhism. But this is just someone's opinion. Same with the comments on Skeptics Bible. But with these kinds of things it's just man's teachings. You can criticise the Bible all you like, but the Bible was written for instructions from God. The Koran and the Book of Mormon are of this kind of book too, but I don't believe in these holy books, obviously. -

Those that would never miss a meeting or field service no matter what...
by JH in.
did you know a few in your congregation that would never miss a meeting, no matter what.
even if it was 20 below zero or 100 f or if they were sick, they would be there anyways.. these people irritated me, because they wanted to show how good they were.. did you know any like that?

Anyone like me where you still believe in MOST of their doctrines?
by inquirer inlike i don't like that un involvment, record keeping.
i don't know what to think about the paedophile stuff, because you could accuse the catholic church of that too.
but apart from those things i still believe that god's name is jehovah, his son is jesus, no trinity, and he died on a torture stake... i love reading the new world translation, i believe it's the best one, but i love reading other translations too!

As I said in the post before this, anyone can teach good things. It doesn't matter what religion it is. You just sort out "garbage ideas," and "good life-saving religious ideas," that according to me have been proven true.
I am sorry...I think I may have misunderstood you to start with. I thought you may have been thinking of going back to the WT ORG.
It is obvious you could never go back if you wish to tell the elders that some of their doctrines are"garbage ideas" You must realise with the WT it is all or NONE. They have unity (conformity) you know.
I wish you success if you decide to start your own new religion with most of the leftovers from the WT

Thanks man! :) No worries. :)
I can't go back to the org. Because it's been PROVEN that they do get up to bad things like UN involvement.
Well... I hate to say this, but yeah... they are on the arrogant side! :( -

Thanks for being so friendly and welcoming -- the JW's aren't. :(
But I must stress, I still believe in a lot of JW doctrine (I should write this on my profile), I don't think I'll ever change on that.
But I love all these interesting topics, and proof that what they do and that. :)
Yeah, there is a whole range of viewpoints here.
There is one change I have though of and I accept: Philosophy. I don't think philosophy is bad anymore -- I just think you have to be careful what stuff you take in! It's like wine, you just don't drink too much of it that's all.
Philosophy in my opinion is related to really important thigns like -- inventions! This Internet invention (used by the US army in the 1960's [that's where it all started]) is pretty important! You can reveal JW activities!
You have to have a freemind (.org -- :D ) to invent something!
But thanks again for being so welcoming! So Simon is the founder of this board? :D Does he post here often? -

And we're very glad you did! It's great having more from downunder on JWD. There are times when we feel really time-zoned here so have someone else in our time and place is pretty good.
Welcome aboard!
Cheers, Ozzie

What's the worst Witness meeting of the week?
by inquirer in(this question does not include the field service one.
the little introduction and then the preaching after it.
when i went, i thought the most useless meeting was that kingdom ministry meeting.
-
inquirer
---ozziepost---
Actually there isn't a Kingdom Ministry meeting, unless you're referring to the Service Meeting?? Actually I thought this was one of their better ones. oh well!
I found the Watchtower Study (now there's a contradiction in terms!!!!) the one that dragged the most.............and I was conducting it!!!!
___
---inquirer---
I meant the one where they do the mock preaching work and they have some person reading out a Bible passage for practise reading. And they have the ministerial servants (I always laught when I hear all these titles!!! :D ha ha ha) giving talks. And yeah, just the one where they go through the KM magazine.
YOU WERE CONDUCTING IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!! AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH HAHA HA HA HA HA HA HA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I thought that Watchtower meeting always gave me hope and I like the talks as well. But yeah, it did drag on a bit. It had to be a good Watchtower article/talk for it to be good.
