If they had released the New World Translation in full in 1961 at the most popular book stores, I would say it would have the same attention received for it that the Davinci Code! Millions would have bought it! I reckon it's a jolly good idea to see it at normal book stores and not just at WTS publishing houses.
I use to work for a JW. He owned a small business and he use to place Watchtower magazine on the lower shelf, so why not put WTS publications in an actual book store (like Australia's Dymocks) and let everyone know?!
I got my Catholic New American Bible at Dymocks. And I am glad it is accesible.
I am kinda lucky getting the original American Standard Version. I got it at the Australia Bethel. But that's only because I live in Sydney! It would have been pretty hard to get otherwiese! Maybe I could have got it at the Kingdom Hall, but that would have taken a gamble. I could have got the ASV online... But that's not the point. It should be widely available.
And I agree with the previous poster! WHY NOT HAVE A JEHOVAH'S WITNESS FOR DUMMIES!!!!! Fair dinkum mate!!!!!!
But, another poster said it's about 55% of the profits going to the "wrong people." "Worldly people," that is. But I am sure they could work out some agreement.
I guess the answer is, is to go to a Kingdom Hall before the meeting starts... But that's no good, because that's a brainwashing session. They start to do that pretend "welcoming stuff." But that's not the point either. Because they aren't exactly open to the public from 9-5 pm, 5 days a week! And if I wanted to get a leather-bound Bible, I would have to order it. That's what happened last time I was a JW.....
Everything should be available when you want it.... Sorry to repeat myself...

JW Literature-why not public?
by AllAlongTheWatchtower inthis might be old hat to those of you with more experience in the wts/witness life, but it struck me as very odd, perhaps even a bit sinister.
i started coming here so i could find out just what my wife was getting herself into.
on my first day here, i learned about the blood doctrine, and that was enough to convince me.

SHOULD I PIONEER OR COLLEGE?
by stillAwitness indo you think the wt has become more lenient or stricter over the year?.
i am 21 and i remember just 4 years ago going to college was looked at as something negative.
girls my age, we had plans to be ft pioneers and become secretaries.

I guess it's more logical to go to College because it's knowledge.
My "college" was the research on the JW's. Thanks to this site I looked at Crisis of Conscience.
I looked at your profile. If you researched the JW's, you should continue research that eventually (hopefully) gives you $$$$. -

GetBusyLiving --
I wanted to believe it, but never really did. I did believe in God for a while though and always figured that he was going to eventually vaporize me for my lack of faith. I always thought he hated me because I couldn't be like the kid's in the Watchtower and Awake. Happily anyway. -

Why the Mainstream Media's reluctance to publish WTS vs Quotes battle?
by EscapedLifer1 inwe were unable to generate any interest the first go-around with the wts threatening quotes, and now it seems the mainstream media is for the most part ignoring us again.. i have also sent out numerous releases and letters to local media outlets (newspaper, tv, etc.
) prior to a number of district conventions, and never got any kind of response nor did i ever see anything anything printed or broadcast except the "fluff" pieces they do about the convention, baptism, drama, blah, blah.
after reading several local articles, from several different cities, reciting how much $$$$ the conventions bring to each city, i have a feeling that, at least these cases regarding the dc's, the media doesn't want to go after a large contributor to the local economy.. but, what about this case, the lawsuit against quotes?

To most people, the JW's are nothing of importance.
There are a few splinter groups of Bible Students these days and deny they came from Jehovah's Witnesses. No one cares about them! If it wasn't for the Internet, I would not have known that they still exist!
Really, people only talk about really major groups like Catholics and Anglicans... because they are so flaming big! Everyone knows about them! They have 100's of millions of members to their faiths. And most of the time, even then they talk about paedophiles, loss of membership which is all negative, anyway. JW's are about as popular as baked beans! Look at 99% of the people on this message thread and in the media too! -

"The preaching work would have to be organized"
by Check_Your_Premises ini think witness often confuse the subject of "organized" or "order" with human concepts of these words.
for instance a forest might look highly random in it's placement of trees.
on the other hand, the trees are placed according to very hard and certain rules that decide where a tree can receive enough water, light, and nutrients to survive.

"The preaching work would have to be organized" You have to say it with the NOW... right tone! The typical JW tone. I never lived in America, but I remember the typical Witness tones in Australia.
" THE (slight pause) preaching work (deep tone) would have to be organized. " (say this bit at moderate speed.)
NOW... as a Jehovah's Witness (slight pause) , we know (deep tone) we are full filling prophecy because ... (sound demanding -- like if you don't think we are fulfilling prophecy you must be a Santanic cult follower and will die in the lake of fire sort of thing.)
There tones are very distinct! Like this Catholic cardinal from Australia... he has "big tones" in his voice. -

John the Baptist wasn't Organised, he couldn't even organise a square meal for himself, but lived off honey and locusts, but we can hardly say he wasn't successful could we?

In re reading Ray Franz ISOCF, I came across an actual photocopy of a letter written by George Howard, about new evidence in 1988 placing the Chester Beatty Papyrus No. 2 [p-46] at some time before 81CE. I was especially interested in the post-script. The complete George Howard letter states:
"Dear Mr Persson,
Thank you for your letter of 29 June regarding the re-dating of P46 to the latter part of the first century. If Dr Kim's dating is correct it would show that in in a Pauline MS of the first century the Tetragram was not used as I suggested. This weakens my theory, at least in regard to the Pauline letters. Whether or not first century manuscripts of the gospels and other writings would follow the same pattern of P46 would still be a matter of conjecture. We can only hope that first century MSS of these writings turn up as well. A close look at P75 and P66 shows that they are not far behind in date to P46.
Sincerly
George Howard
Professor
P.S. The Jehovah's Witnesseshave made too much out of my articles. I do not support their theories.
http://www.earlychristianwritings.com/ Look at the link for Anti-Marcionite Prologues... 150-400 AD it was dated! THAT'S A FLAMING LONG GAP! It could be middle second century or it could "the Masorete era!" It's dated about 2 00 years BEFORE AND AFTER CONSTANTINE! I am also shocked by the daing of CANONICAL GREEK SCRIPTURE MANUSCRIPTS! Not everyone agrees that all the books of the GS were written within the first century! I've looked at the dates when the Catholics think some of the minor prophet books were written in the HS -- and it differs so much from JW dates (and I am not talking about 607 BC) I am not saying the JW's are right OR THE CATHOLICS! What I am saying is that from time to time archaeologists get the dating wrong.
Also, George said in that letter, that the divine name may not occur in the Pauline letters, at least, but left it in doubt... But I have proof anyway as what I just showed you in the last post.
