  i believe that jehovah's witnesses are a "cult".

  to be a "good roman catholic" you have to be "cultic", that's for sure!

  their beliefs and practices, rites and ceremonies are simply weird!

  I think that JWs offer hope to people for such a good future that people are/were naively (me included of course) prepared to give them authority over their lifes, as soon as more people realize that it ain't true they will end up like the catholics (with no autority over anyone) and enter the "tradition" kingdom. The catolics are viewed as history and people appreciate more what people like Michelangelo put in their churches than what they have to say.....Personally I don't like either of them for different reasons....

  BTW there was a documentary about Michelangelo recently and I tell you that guy was a luky bastard.... around the age of 23 he made the "Pieta'", soon after the "David" and he was contending with none other than Leonardo for work!!! Raffaello was one of his pupils and he had the nerves to have arguments with the pope himself.....And he was Gay... I mean this was the period of "Savonarola" the worst inquisitor ever.... even the pope was scared of him... in fact he had to have him killed... well, he was tortured before ... a lot... just like he used to do himself to others.... It could probably be regarded as the highest pick of justice of the RCC...

  If we look at the horror and guilt (past and present) the catholics have produced we have to conclude that it has been a very damaging religion regardless of the definition of "cult".

  Now for those of you that fell for "it's very different now", remember that they didn't change willingly, they had to do it because of politics and because nobody was and is going to church apart from wedding, funerals, xmas and easter..... A bit like the "new light", facts proved it wrong it wasn't them realizing it beforehand.... They would love to go back to the old days.....

  What we are seeing with JWs happended with catholic the difference is that catholics went mainstream in order to survive and jws have become stricter in order to fulfill their own mad words.....

  On a good note the effect is that catholics have no real rules nowadays so local congregations and individual can make good things. (So nothing to do with their religion) Whereas JWs can't do anything unless the GB say so....

  Anyway....how can a bunch of people dressed like that can even be let loose LOL

  They've never done too good in UK.

  Look at the population, Italy has more or less the same but has almost double JWs. Italy, however, has done well because we have the pope and many don't like him so, they saw JWs as a good alternative..... unfortunately they are just as bad....churches have been empty for a while but KHs are getting emptyer too...

  went to the meeting this morning and stayed for the talk.

  the speaker used a text that i thought was very ironic, 1 john 4:1 which reads " beloved ones, do not believe every inspired expression, but test the inspired expressions to see whether they origanate with god, because many false prophets have gone forth into the world.

  " i found this ironic becuase we were trained not to test anything in the publications and never question what we hear from the platform.

  For your own good, when you write that essay find all the publications where they clearly don't want you to double check, like Blondie has pointed out, so that you may see the tricks they are using.

  Many before you (me included) have gone out to defend the WT only to find out how wrong they are.......

  i faded away from the jw cult last year (loaded language but i have my resons now).

  i got my family out which was great.

  from then on it's been a typical story of leaving a cult, though.

  I knew it!!!! I knew there was something strange with you aahhhh! you even listen to hard rock at 17! man you you........

  For your own sake you should think about not confronting too many and let them be and say what they like unless it's an impediment in your life. I mean if you live in a small community it could be a problem but if not or if people around know you well then they are the ones that have something to lose. If you get in to it too much it can become a new form of enslavement. If you said it to few, all will know by the next meeting (that should do the trick).

  my brother called me today.he is 20 ,3 years younger than me,and out of the religion.he still has fear though that it could be true,but thats another story.. he told me he heard my mother and father talking upstairs.my mother said about the org "ive put 26 years into it,i think i'm done with it,i might just go sunday from now on".this is huge ,because she was a devoted nutjob witness.she made my life horrible for the 1st 17 years of my life.i had been trying to suddly tell her the truth about the troof,but i didn't expect this.i'm happy and yet i want to know where she stands with the borganization.. this along with what seems to be an outpouring of similar stories,i have a gut feeling the jehovahs witness mind control cult is on the brink of implosion.everyone is so burdened by it.the jig is up,gb,good riddance when you fold.the rank and file have had enough.my 2 younger sisters are on the edge of mental freedom.i hope they can fully get free of it.. this is a milestone in my families long and strange trip in mental enslavement!!!!!!!!!!!!

  I agree with stevenyc because you have to remember that you cannot go on the net, you are not allowed to look at previous books, and need to accept the "new light".

  So the system is very clever and will be able to hold another 30Y at least as it stands. IMO the only thing that can take it down is a division from within.

  Their growth is just above "inflation" (population increase), therefore weak, but at this pace a decrease can be spinned easily, so only a shake up would crash them. A division could come about because of money (interests) or strategy/power (new "new light"). I think they can spin it up to half their current size if the world goes on this way.

  Or God finally enters the picture and says to them "get lost, I do not know you". (I hope this is the one)
