(baylor university, waco, tx) an essay entitled, "jehovah's witnesses, blood transfusions, and the tort of misrepresentation," found in the autumn issue of baylor universitys prestigious journal of church and state, published december 13, 2005, exposes the vulnerability of jehovahs witnesses religious organization to massive claims for compensation because of the religions misrepresentation of the medical risks of blood transfusions.
this milestone essay critically examines one of the religions main publications for teaching their children and new recruits about their blood beliefs, how can blood save your life?
the peer-reviewed essay details many misrepresentations of medical facts, which the religion partly relies on to support its blood prohibition, thus denying its members from making fully informed medical decisions.
I'm sorry but I really don't know what or how this is going to help. I must really be dense on this one. The WT as consistently called new information or changed doctrine by their favorite phrase "new light" As long as they speak as church doctrine are they not protected by the laws of church and state? When the Pope speaks "for the Church" he nor the church can be held accountable for anything said. If the GB wants to state "whatever" even though it is a lie and put it alongside the articles of faith. Those members of the WT must believe or leave. The shunning continues as always and the WT stays in power.
The WT has all but admitted that any member CAN have a blood transfusion "if they want to" but they will by doing so show their desire to remove themselves from the membership roles. And the shunning begins.
For those without a degree in jurisprudence - English please.

thanks vm but the thread I'm needing was prior to this past Elder school. I'm thinking probably 4 or more months ago.
Elder who posted mentioned about speaking about this point with PO who was in car with him on the way home.

who here has or had a emu or mayby it was an ostrich picture.
recently saw a picture in a gallery that closely resembled the one on this site.
would like to see it again so that i can compare.
Big M - An Elder that I knew from a previous congregation life is now a self proclaimed photographer. Seems janitorial services wasn't enough anymore. He or his wife who is in this endeavor with him took a picture of an Emu or Ostrich and just posted it on their website.
It is simular with the picture that Candynuts uses. Had they been the same picture I could deduct that this elder or elderette is either candynuts or just posting pictures that they didn't really take.
Although the pictures are simular the birds themselves have some differences. Too Bad. It would have been great speaking with this Elder "outside the box"

Supposedly they are photographers and took the picture themselves. In that case we have an elder or elderette in our midst.

SF - Hope this helps. You can hear Red's wonderful rendition of this at this website.

The following words were spoken by the late Red Skelton on his television program as he related the story of his teacher, Mr. Laswell, who felt his students had come to think of the Pledge of Allegiance as merely something to recite in class each day.
Now, more than ever, listen to the meaning of these words.
"I've been listening to you boys and girls recite the Pledge of Allegiance all semester
and it seems as though it is becoming monotonous to you.
If I may, may I recite it and try to explain to you the meaning of each word?"
I
me, an individual, a committee of one.
Pledge
dedicate all of my worldly goods to give without self pity.
Allegiance
my love and my devotion.
To the flag
our standard, Old Glory, a symbol of freedom. Wherever
she waves, there's respect because your loyalty has given
her a dignity that shouts freedom is everybody's job!
United
that means that we have all come together.
States
individual communities that have united into 48 great states.
Forty-eight individual communities with pride and dignity and
purpose; all divided with imaginary boundaries, yet united to
a common purpose, and that's love for country.
And to the republic
a state in which sovereign power is
invested in representatives chosen by the
people to govern. And government is the people
and it's from the people to the leaders, not from
the leaders to the people.
For which it stands, one nation
one nation, meaning "so
blessed by God"
Indivisible
incapable of being divided.
With liberty
which is freedom -- the right of power to live one's
own life without threats, fear or some sort of
retaliation.
And Justice
the principle or quality of dealing fairly with others.
For all
which means, boys and girls, it's as much your
country as it is mine.

Since I was a small boy, two states have been added to our country
and two words have been added to the pledge of Allegiance...
UNDER GOD
Wouldn't it be a pity if someone said
that is a prayer
and that would be eliminated from schools too?
i was just wandering.... was it just me or was everyone thinking about it..... ive been in a few congs where some of the sisters were absolutely drop dead gorgeous!
my last cong here in sydney, there was about 160 publishers so the talent was every where... i remember having the hots for this sister, who happens to be the wife of the service overseer... she was xxx hot.
i remember always having to wear my suit coat to the meeting to hide my excitement.. i think all the bro's must have thought the same thing.
There were comments from the Circuit Overseer counseling sisters to dress modestly as their low cut dresses were distracting the brothers handling the mics.
