Interesting Comment From an Active Elder
by DarioKehl ini was recently speaking to an elder "off the record" while helping him do some house repairs.
i have a comfortable enough relationship to speak openly with him about things, but am careful to disclose the extent of my disbelief in wt doctrine.
anyway, this guy wouldn't last a day in the mafia because he can't keep anything confidential.

RUSSIAN METEOR! Did God make meteoroids?
by Bloody Hotdogs! indid jehovah set meteoroids in motion billions of years ago when he created the solar system, or has satan been manufacturing them since his fall?
after all, it seems rather imperfect of god to have created such flyee, crashy, smashy, destroyee things.

Assuming those godless scientists give us enough warning of an asteroid collision and we all get down on our knees and pray with AGuest- God will surely hear us and make that bad asteroid go away--
Unless God is punishing us, just like he did with big & bad T-Rex, who obviously got too powerful and haughty for his own good-- so God started over-

Flood Story in every Culture?

Any humans who lived on the coastal areas -8,000 to10,000 years ago would have had their huts flooded out by a 6-10ft rise of the oceans due to the draining of glacial lake Agassiz in North America- The survivors had to find new homes and the oral history of the great flood was passed on down through the ages--

Weird rumor I heard - JWs in Sweden
by sir82 ini heard this from a "friend of a friend of a friend...." at least 3 or 4 intermediate steps before i heard it.. so it is likely distorted, but i'll throw it out there in case someone in or near sweden can clarify it.. .
i heard that the wts branch in sweden instructed all jws there to "get rid of" all (empahasized all) of their printed literature, and rely exclusively on the content of jw.org for their literature.. .
that's the entire extent of it - i also got a few speculations about "what it might mean" (the society is expecting persecution!

I surmise old literature is not to be found in Sweden, Norway or Finland. WT literature is in great demand this time of year, as a free fire-starter for the fireplace and wood stove--

Obama's speech writers used the strawman fallacies yesterday
by moshe inseems they liked using that fallacy a lot--.
president obama has an, at times, well-deserved reputation for delivering his speeches well.
certainly, the president made an impression today when he delivered his second inaugural address calling for a bolder, more expansive government that would be committed increasingly to the principles of liberalism, with characteristic soaring rhetoric.. unfortunately, another characteristic was also in evidence in obama's speech: namely, his tendency to argue against positions that nobody holds (and by extension, to mischaracterize his opponents' views so as to make them easier to argue against).

So lets take a vote-
Is it OK for Obama to LIE, as long as it fits your social agenda? Bush is gone, Clinton is gone, it's Obama for 4 years- do you want more strawman fallacies from Obama or honest logic?

Most politicians will try to deceive us, if they can get away with it- it is up to the public to demand full honesty from their leaders. Obama was dishonest on Monday and those who dismiss it, as nothing, are teaching other politicians that they can boldy lie and nobody will stop them.

Like I said, Obama uses strawman fallacies- and plenty of them at his inaguration, no less.
IMO, a person who knowingly presents distortions and exaggeration with an intent to deceive, in order to control others, is definitely a member of the liars club.

It seems obvious that Obama's speech writers did use plenty of strawman fallacies and the liberal slanted news media never even reported it-- Ex-JWs who would scold the GB for a unethical use of strawmen arguments in the WT are quite content for Obama to treat them like obsequious stooges.

We have a lot of work to do to make JWs see us as normal human beings--the WT publications never miss an opportunity to demonize ex-JWs
