newbie here, a lil about me......grew up around the jw religion, never was baptized but i did get to the level of "unbaptized publisher" once, as of now i dont attend any "meetings", but still get the watchtowers and awakes pushed to me by family members.
it's actually been 3 years since i realized that it wasnt the "truth", even though i've probably have known it all along.
my question to the groups is, how long did it take you to stop calling it "the truth"?
I read a JW-expose' book in Dec. 1987 and told my wife a month later I didn't believe it was the "Truth" any longer- sent my exit letter about 4 months later- got my divorce papers a year later from my JW wife .
Now the big one was when I stopped believing that Jesus was the truth in 1996. It took me four years to admit to that one publicly. I converted to Judaism in 2001- nobody ever asks what I think about Jesus now.

i find it very hard for me to believe that the governing body is unaware that many of the wtbts teachings and doctrines are not only deceiving people but are also spiritually, mentally and physically harming them as well.
what are your thoughts and comments?
Why stop at just JW teachings? You could plug in the leaders of almost any organized religion into that question. I believe that all organized religion in history has resorted to fraud ( no matter how well intentioned it was/is)to stay in power. It has been said that religion is an invention of the rich man to keep the poor man from robbing and killing him.

I doubt many here would have made the cut back in the old "viking" days. Women used to look for "brawn" in a man, now they look for "bank account".

This reminds me of my battles almost 20 years ago- I was the "in your face" ex-JW type,too. I think if they had to listen to rants like yours on a regular basis ,it might start to crack their spiritual paradise mindset. If they would stop killing and abusing kids and shunning families they could spend 24/7 working for the WTBS- I wouldn't care anymore.

You're right- I forget that not many have the guts for that kind of battle. It amazes me how scared people are of those elders- even non-witnesses. I guess that's why their wives end up dubs.
I was bothered by elders trying to shepherd my wife and kids after I publicly renounced my membership. One day Mr P.O. and service overseer came to visit while I was home. I was ready for them and slipped a real juicy Hustler mag I had borrowed from work under the back of the P.O. drivers seat while they were inside talking to my wife. I hope it slid out during one of his wednesday service days. Anyway, they stopped coming by.

I think a good plan is to discredit the elders- invite Mr. Presiding Overseer and wife over for a barbecue. Just as he sinks his teeth into that hot buttered ear of corn ask how he feels about the Watchtower organization joining a UN organization- if he has been a JW for over 30 yrs start up a conversation about how things were back in 1975- did he want to go to college? Why couldn't JW kids get a good education back then ? Why was being a fulltime pioneer and cleaning carpets better than going to college and having a profession? Get the point. Let your kids see him squirm- they'll see their Dad in charge- not the KH!! Once your kids see the elders for what they are , you won't have to worry. Be VERY nice, act interested in JW history- if they leave abruptly act very hurt to your family- 'Why , I thought you said everyone was so nice at the KH." " Didn't you say real Christians show love?" ,etc.

buzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz then silent.. gosssssssssssssssip afterwards.. well that's love for you, 8 years and not one phone call.
The WT purified the ranks around 1974 with their ban on smoking. The elders had several years of "fun" catching and Df-ing all the smokers -had to cleanse the congregations before 1975!. This Df-ing of the inactives is just another ploy to distract the rank & file from the failures of their leadership.
