  Some Biblical scholars have wondered why Jesus was so down on families. The book of Thomas, while not on the approved Canon list of NT books gives some insight into Jesus' life. Some say Jesus did not have a real father at home. This might explain some things. Unfortunately, the main eye-witnesses to Jesus' ministry and his family chose not to write/talk about what they saw. This seems odd to me.

  I don't have any real oppostion to Gay marriage per se. The problem I have is that in my country-USA- we have not made any provisons for the financial costs of Gay marriage. Nobody wants to talk about the increased cost of Social Security - survivors benefits,etc., just for starters. The costs will be paid by the majority who are heterosexual. How much will it be? Let's just get these numbers $$ out in the open. Does anyone know what these costs add up to and how it would be paid for?

  Four things- causing the premature death of many, many adults and helpless children from their wacko ideas about, blood transfusions, organ transplants and vaccinations.

  denying the youth a normal life - friends and education (due to, KH-meetings , F-service, no holidays-birthdays,sports and discouraging an education/career,etc)

  Destroying families by their rules-both going in and getting out (shunning)

  Protecting and aiding child abusers in the KH

  yep, that about covers it.

  Will the GB start to crack soon?

  we have seen what happens to staunch jw's who hang out here.

  in a year or less they are questioning their beliefs and trying to figure a way out without losing everything.

  could this not happen with some of our gb members and members of the wt corporation?

  We have seen what happens to staunch JW's who hang out here. In a year or less they are questioning their beliefs and trying to figure a way out without losing everything. Could this not happen with some of our GB members and members of the WT Corporation? They know of the Internet and are aware of our ex-JW sites, I am sure of this. Knowledge of our sites will lead some to check it out- it's human nature. Some of the GB could fall victim to the power of the Internet. Does anyone have an idea of how we might first notice the cracks forming in the WT leadership?

  Man became conscious that he was conscious (he became aware of his identity as a "self") reflectively

  And that is where the problem begins- self awareness. Why,How & When? If the answer turns out to be just a normal step in evolution- no supernatural intervention needed- then you are well on your way to a Nobel prize, my friend.

  Even dismissing all religions as unproven or even a hoax we are left wondering why man developed (and no other animal) a conscience, a moral compass & compassion for the weak/sick for starters. Our species could have survived just fine without these traits. When did man get these traits , how and why? That is the mysery religion tries to answer, not perfectly by any means. We are just searching for an answer that works for us. Even if the formula is flawed , most people have yet to see an acceptable alternative to religion. Now when a religion harms people and destroys lives ,we need to question it's right to exist ,as it then goes against our moral compass.

  Fading ain't goin' so well.

  i've been wanting to post updates for awhile, but i have been paranoid that my posts would make it too easy to identify me.

  right now i don't care, so here's what's happening if it's helpful for anyone else who is trying to fade.. first of all, as of my last update i was still hanging around some of the witnesses socially and it came back to bite me.

  after that mess, i pretty much gave up on even trying to pretend i can have much in common with most of the people at the hall.

  Fading works best , I think, when the brothers are glad to see you go,ie, you have been a needy, expensive pain in the butt to them. As long as you are acting nice to them they will try to bring you back into line. I never faded- I just quit, so I can offer no advice on fading strategies.

  JW's will never meet anyone in an open debate, in a public forum. If the GB were so confident at 25 Columbia Heights of their position, they would be running a Cable television station 24/7 broadcasting their message of salvation. Of course it would be the same one hour show re-run 24 hrs a day. .

  The people who need the trailers probably do not have the money to set them up and do the hook-ups. Some of the areas do not even have utilites back in service. The flood wiped out the electric service,so the homeowner will need to hire an electrical contractor to install a temporay pole service at a minimum of $1000. Hire a plumber to install a temporary sewer line- another $1000. These trailers are for temporary use while the homeowner awaits repairs- does he have a viable plan to repair his home/ can he pay for repairs and meet all codes? Has his home already been condemned? Is he is default of his mortgage? Did he have flood insurance? Fema has so many hoops to jump through that I am not surprised in the small number who have received trailers.

  You can see this begins to become a slippery slope that few can navigate.
