in a local convenience store, the owners have installed an id checker for anyone purchasing alcohol.
they require you to put your id in this machine to determine whether or not you are of legal age.
even if you are 85 years of age, you have to comply or you can't buy a beer!.

you know, to take three people to the movies now, including snacks and drinks can cost $50.00 or more.
it burns my biscuits when someone brings a bunch of kids in and then has absolutely no interest in ensuring that they don't disrupt the viewing.
worse, some folks drop their kids off at the movies and have no idea that they are being little hellions and ruining the expensive experience for others.. then, there is the guy who wants to see the movie but keeps his blackberry going all through it so that if you are sitting behind him, every time he gets a call and that blinding little blue glare pops up you are distracted.
sacolton,
That is so friggen' awesome! Hubby and I bought our home because the second story is an open 750 sq ft room that we intend to turn into a home theatre/rock and roll room. We're making progress, but DAYUM!! You're way ahead of us!
Too cool! What will be your first movie? :)

i posted this in another thread, but thought it deserved a serious discussion topic of it's own.
does anyone else work in the insurance industry, or are you involved in regulations or benefits plan design and administration?
if so, would you be interested in a discussion of the speech and perhaps healthcare reform's anticipated impact on their own profession?.
For those interested in following the White House's vision of healthcare reform, the official site is:
The comments above are all very interesting... I'm doing a little research before responding but wanted to post the website.
Thank you, everyone for your thoughtful comments.

(of the, "I don't celebrate birthdays anymore because the candles don't fit on the cake" class.)
i was watching the news when the first plane hit the first tower.
cnbc actually.
the news people couldn't believe it was happening and thought it was a small plane that went off course.
About 15 minutes later as they were watching from across the river with the CNBC cameras, the second plane was shown flying into the second tower-it was obviously a large plane.
That's where I came in... I was watching the news and thought there was a fire in NY... then, the second airliner exploded into the second skyscraper and my heart sank... I felt numb and horrified... called to my husband that we were under attack and that something horrible had happened. I too watched as people were forced to choose between burning to death and a terrifying fall to their death. I remember seeing the rescue workers pour into the towers to save people, and then watched as the towers crashed to the ground crushing them and burying them alive. I cried and cried...
I remember telling my husband that the Pentagon and the White House was next... sure enough, again to my horror, the Pentagon was attacked. Later in the day, we learned about Flight 93 and that it's target was expected to have been the White House... The bridges were closed for the day in the Bay Area, CA and the TransAmerica tower was evacuated along with a couple other tall buildings in San Fran. I was the on-site HR Regional for a software company in Fremont right near the Dumbarton Bridge and I watched as National Guard troops took control of the bridge and they stayed there for several weeks.
I'll never forget that horrifying, disgusting, tragic day... Ever...

I say that your washing machine broke down because it is harboring too many apostate socks. Have it exorcised, with haste!

we are big tim burton fans in this house, and have been eagerly anticipating this movie.
my 11-year-old has been bouncing off the walls to see this one since the preview first came out.
here is a good trailer site where the player allows you to view in full-screen.. http://video.msn.com/dw.aspx?mkt=en-us&tab=s120&dw=1&rf=http://movies.msn.com/movies/movie-trailers/browse/&fg=&from=01/64&vid=7134f30a-2b4a-4acc-b8cf-080cd3c2583e&playlist=videobytag:mk:us:vs:0:tag:movies_trailers:ns:msnvideo_top_cat:ps:10:sd:-1:ind:1:ff:8a.
Well... I was going to go see it again, alone and at a time when the crumb-crunchers were not bugging the be-jeepers out of me. But... a small over-view won't hurt. :)
All in all, I really enjoyed it and would recommend it to all but the little ones, even though I did see children in the theatre as young as 6. (WTF) I'm sure they will have nightmares over a couple parts but...
The story was a little weak, but the animation, effects and the music definitely made up for the shallow story. I'll have to see if I can find this in book form, since there has to be more to the story and they just didn't tell it all. The ending was good, it was unexpected which is always a nice surprise. The characters was nicely done, good depth of emotion and just as naive as one would expect for essentially sock puppets/robots that had just woken and unaware of who/what they were. The 'bad guy' (can't say what it is since that may ruin the film for others) was pretty frightening and well done.
My two boys were completely drawn in, and the concensus of the 11-year-old crowd was that it was, "Bad Ass, Mom! Thanks!!" Don't know where that kid get's his mouth... honest! :)
I'd recommend it.
