Did anyone watch the latest Frontline?

It got me thinking though, and another question popped up: even if we renewed the search for Osama, dead or alive, it seems from reports that the Iraqi people are so terrified of the radical fundamentalists that they are not willing to risk further endangerment of their families by turning over people that they know are close to him.

At what point do the Iraqi people have to step up and kick these radical murderers out of their country? At what point does it become the Iraqi people's issue to deal with? Aren?t we just there to stabilize things so that they can get the chance to deal with it themselves?

If you had your way, how would you proceed to withdraw from Iraq now that Saddam is in custody?

i came here to gain insight into my guy and it's been quite an eye-opening education.

great tribulation?

i was talking to another ex-witness recently and i brought up "the great tribulation" but she wasn't familiar with this term--i was raised with it.

as i recall (i might be a little cloudy in remembering) i was taught that after armageddon, satan rules for 100 years and this time was "the great tribulation" because jws would be thrown in concentration camps and burned at the stake or something...or maybe it happens right before armageddon?

i'm starting to think this may be one of those false memories...or maybe a regional thing?

Did your folks ever do hiding drills with you? Just in case of persecution?

I have not thought about this in years! Yeah, I remember. Once this guy came by the congregation peddling freeze dried survival food in tins and my parents bought into the whole 'we'll be on the run for our lives soon' mentality and bought hundreds of dollars worth of it. Keep in mind this was in the very early 70's. It was a lot of money that we did not have.

As the years went on, it turned up at the dinner table on a regular basis. Yuck! Ever have 5 year old freeze dried 'mystery stew'?

Are ex-jw's or "apostates" addicted to jw-bashing?

this might seem like a funny question to ask but my mom told me that "apostates" are addicted to jw-bashing and cannot let it go and have a life.

i asked her what she meant by this statement and she told me that all ex-jw's talk about is the wts and jw's and negative things about the jw's.

she said that we get up thinking about jw-bashing and go to sleep thinking about jw-bashing just like a drug addict.

Do you think that you can go a week without jw-bashing?

It's not the jw's, it's their actions that are bashed quite a bit. Believe me, if I come across non-jw's who act in the same destructive manner of the jw's they get a piece of my mind in a hurry too!

I suppose it's like anything, some obsess, some heal and move on relatively quickly just like in abuse cases. It's very individual.

There are people here who are grieving, mad, irritated, apologetic, couldn't give a hoot, amused, sarcastic and everything in between over their jw experiences.

What you have to keep in mind is that everyone has had a different experience and left for a different reason. Your mom is making is a blanket statement wrapped up in a false analogy.

Witnesses are good at that.

There is certainly a lot of frustration being expressed, but is there actually anything that any one of us can do?

I think a lot of us are just feeling useless to help and we watch the situation in Iraq unfold in personal tragedy repeated thousand times over.

The poor Iraqi people are caught in the crosshairs, and so are our soldiers and those of our allies. I believe that Bush believed that there was sufficient reason to go to war given the first hand accounts of people who had been brutalized under Sadam's dictatorship and other intelligence?s he was receiving. And u/d is right in that it was not his decision alone but that of a group of advisers. If they screwed up, we should hold them all accountable, but we probably won't have that information for a number of years.

Hindsight is 20/20, and Monday morning quarterbacking is seldom helpful. We'll be able to see what the mistakes were and guard against them in the future, I just want this war over as soon as possible, and the Iraqi people to be free to make their own decisions.

Rambling, I know. Just my two cents.

what was it that was the real eye opener for you?.

for me, it was after watching the video, "jehovah's witnesses; a non-prophet organization," and the point on how the org puts itself in a place between jesus and mankind.

a position which does not exist scripturally.

My beliefs are pretty simple and they do continue to grow and change.

I went through a period of doubting there was a god and then swung back.

Condensed version:

The Bible is the Word of God, however, I struggle with some of the things I read in there. Don't particularly like the personality displayed in the old testament.

That Jesus is Divine; not God Jehovah, but Divine.

That, he offered an example for us to follow that is good.

That belief in him is essential to worshiping God.

That ultimately God will fix this entire mess, and then we'll know more!

Extremely condensed version sans the dogma. Is there any topic in particular you have in mind?
