Why Do people think they need A GOD to be good people?

i decided after much study and soul searching that i dont believe in god.

ive noticed recently (not on the forum but others) some people seem to think that if i dont believe in a god that im obviously morally bankrupt.

i dont feel this way as i give a portion of my income to charity and i have never set out to harm anyone else.

has your life been "blessed" since leaving?

while in the org we are constantly told that if we just tow the line and behave that will we be blessed and everything we want will come to us.

personaly i havn't found that to be the case in the 30 years i spent trying to tow the line.. but now i've left wonderfull things are starting to happen in my life and i'm so very happy!.

so i wondered, have you encountered more "blessings" or less since leaving?.

Don't necessarily believe in 'blessings,' but it's certainly been a lot better and much more honest. Real friends, decent income, more balanced worldview.

Not worried about an evil god about to come and destroy billions of people...

You know, the good stuff.

why did we beg for jehovah's forgiveness at every prayer when clearly the son has this authority?.

i'm not a jehovah's witness, nor have i ever been one.

(neither have i played one on tv.

) but i have relatives who joined back in the late 60s, and we've heard precious little from them since.. i've read many jw publications, talked to their missionaries and am at a loss.

Insanity produces a reasoning methodology that is not understood by the sane. Insane reasoning takes facts and produces delusional conclusions. The confidence that the ardent witnesses have in stating that the organization is 'god's channel' is the result of this delusional, circular and faulty logic by a nut bar in the 1900's who thought he was god's spokesperson. Said nut bar left behind a funded group of power mongers who perpetuated the myth and convinced others to join them with promises of eternal life and paradise for the faithful... It's commonly referred to as cult brainwashing... though some would argue the point.

You've popped in here now for two years, and although the questions remain similar, I don't see that you have ever really engaged in the ensuing conversation. I'm curious as to why your timing is so sporadic and why the basic question doesn't change in spite of answers given...
