Oh Es, you can tell you're a good mummy, cause I haven't seen either of them at the mo! Last flick I saw was attrocious, 'War of the Worlds'. I really didn't want to subject myself to it, especially after not having read the book (I think there was a radio series too??), but my media studies subject requires that we subject ourselves to frequent doses of US (and others) trashy movies for the purpose of deconstruction. Last movie I saw that I thought had at least some merit was 'Hotel Rwanda'. I saw 'Buffalo Soldiers' for the first time a couple of months back, I'm still cracking myself up about that one, a must see. Frog x

Has anyone else ever wondered about.........
by t297crazy inhi i have been reading everyone's posts for a few days.
i've been away from being jw for about 10 years, but only recently has it occured to me what a bunch of crap the whole thing is... i am still young, and so therefore it seems odd to me that all of my family are strong jw's.
especially my dad he was an elder), who i always associated with being a very intelligent person.

Hi there lovely:) thanks for sharing with us your thoughts, you're very fortunate to have gotten away from the org when you're young enough to make a real go at your life.
It sounds as though your father really loves you, but he is of course wilfully submitting to the mind warping teachings of the org. It's so easy to see the WT & GB for all that they are when you've been away for it for some time, we almost forget what it was like to think as they once did. The WT teachings are subtle, simple and effective, and they have your family gripping on through absolute fear of loosing all they've ever known and all they've ever loved.
I can only suggest that you take out some time to write a letter to your father with your own heartfelt feelings on the matter. Take your time with it, and be sure to immerse yourself in what it was like to think as they do so that you can try to appeal to them on their level. Here's a link to the letter I wrote to my family members earlier on this year.

how do JWs justify having children "in the last days?"
by kid-A inin the years leading up to 1975, there was an implicit (if not explicit) discouragement of having children given the proximity of armageddon.
for the most part, this seemed to have been ignored.
my jw grandma now has great-great grandchildren.

From what i've seen of my generation (x) of dub children, most of them have chosen to leave or have been ousted. I doubt very much that reproducing random children, without cloning, would necessarily keep the orgs numbers steady and on the incline.
Funny you should mention this though, cause I was thinking about this very subject just yesterday. When my mother had my twin sisters now 15y/o she and my father were counselled for both the size of our expanding family, and the fact that they were still childraring so close to the end. 15years on, this "system" is still going strong, with no near end in sight, just around the corner, or even up ahead Frog x

Death, DFing, Sadness, People, Rambling
by joelbear inmy mother called last night to tell me that the oldest daughter of one of my best childhood friends had died of a brain tumor.
i remember when robin was pregnant with stephanie 25 years ago.
i grew up with robin and her 2 sisters lisa and julie.

That's a really tragic story Joelbear, really very sad. We all have so much to be thankful for. I'd sooner have a funeral that only 2 people attended than a KH full of insincere morners. Your feelings for your friend are very admirable frog x

Inappropriate "shepherding" calls.
by avishai inhow many have recieved calls by the elders that were under the guise of "shepherding", but somehow inappropriate, i.e, you were a woman alone with only one elder showing up, or you felt physically intimidated by both.
or say they show up at like, 10:30 at night for a shepherding call.
and you say "hey, i appreciate the visit but please call first!

last knock I got on the door was from the CO and his wife, the same couple that "brought my parents into the truth" 20something years before. It was like 9am on a Saturday morning, and my then b/friend was walking around the apartment in nil attire, yeash! I managed to put them off, by promising to attend the PT the next Sunday that he was giving, needless to say I didn't attend...frog x

The JW Religion is Based On Logical Fallacies
by ColdRedRain ini don't usually post many topics that deal with theology, so i think i'll try one this time.
why i say that the jw religion is based on logical fallacies:
you have a religion that claims to be sent by god and who has the closest thing to the "truth" of his word the bible and how they have love amongst themselves, therefore being the most godly.

How many true scholars/scientists are there really among JWs?
by zagor inthis is a question i've been puzzled by ever since my days in the borg.
everywhere i looked i saw tradesmen, cleaner, auto-mechanics here and there some computer technician.
and i do know there are two doctors, one gp and one specialist in the field of drug rehabilitation.. i've heard stories of some being true scholars though.

I always found it interesting that the WT didn't advocate higher learning to it's subjugates, but would lick their lips greedily if an accademic became an interested one. There were always parts on the DC or assembly about this sort of thing. Afterall, if an educated accademic in the field of law/medicine was interested in the "truth", then this must mean that the WT teachings have strong merit, and therefore one and all attached to the org should be praised for their abilit to think so deeply?!? The WT is always very willing to usher these ones into their bethels to fix the teeth and cure the colds of their worker bees on the cheap...Frog x
