JW at meetings vs. JW at social events
by truth_about_the_truth inhave you noticed how jw switch modes depending on where they are?
they seem a lot more 'normal' at social gatherings than while they are engaged in 'theocratic' activities.. it's like there's a spiritual switch that they turn on and off.

This is a warm invitation to sign up and join this board. Come on share your thoughts and experiences with us!
I was reluctant to post at first after observing for quite a while but am really glad I did! The ppl here are very friendly and you can freely express yourself without having to worry about being judged (like some other places we know). Ask questions, tell us what's on your mind, things that you always wanted to bring out but couldn't.
Posting on this board doesn't automatically annoint you as an apostate. Don't think that way. This is a diverse board. There are many knowledgable, active JW here as well.
Whether you have a specific thought, question, point of view, experience, blow off some steam, or just wanna say hi....come on in and share it with us!

You know you're NOT a JW anymore when...(add some)
by Flindersgirl inyou don't automatically wake up with a headache on sunday morning.... you no longer go around (while in field service) mentally deciding what home you'll "have" after armaggedon.... every item of clothing you buy as a woman is not first assessed for its modesty value.... you no longer worry about the 144,000 watching you have sex...:).
when on holiday you don't have to find the nearest kingdom hall asap (remember brother and sisters you are not on holiday from jehovah!!!).
being able to laugh about having a numb ass at the assemblies from sitting and the hilarity in having to tell people that you found the meeting "uplifting" when really you were fighting sleep the whole time.... you no longer have to avoid entire sections of music stores in order to make sure you don't pick up and "demonistic" vibes from backmasked cd's.

History repeats itself doesn't it?
i found this to be hilarious:
Size of Group: Today there are seven women living in small sections of the Canterbury, New Hampshire and Sabbath Day Lake, ME community.
I guess the religion hasn't technically become extinct huh? Some here say that the WTS will never die out but seems as if they are destined to become a shell of it's former self. That's fine with me...If the shell becomes reduced to a few thousand worldwide, that's as good as extinct to me. Although reduced to 7 doesn't sound too bad either. -

Do some WT phrases make you squirm?
by jeanniebeanz infor me it's "the doors of the ark are closing.
i can never forget as a child, being forced to see the graphic images in the publications showing families, mothers with little babies clinging to a rock and others drowning as the ark floats away.
fathers shaking their fists at god for destroying their families... it's like some of the little mind control still functioning in there somewhere causing a kneejerk reaction of uneasiness.... are there any others that bug you?.

Antitypical fulfillment
Happifying, efficacious, heav'n, giv'n, o'er, wondrous
"blah blah blah blah. Is it not?"
Why do they address the audience as "brothers"? "Brothers, should we not blah blah blah blah?" Then you see the women nodding their heads. Doesn't make sense.
As already mentioned, "_______(fill in the blank) Ones". If I am a siamese twin, is it still right to call me that? I would be offended.

dubspeak follies
by what_Truth? inwhat would you think if i told you "last thursday i went to the service meeting at the kingdom hall to hear the presiding overseer give a talk from the platform.
most of us here know that to mean "last thursday i went to church to hear the head pastor give a sermon on the door to door ministry from the pulpit", a pretty common and straight forward event for a jehovah's witness.
i asked my pennicostal wife what she thought the phrase meant and she guessed it had something to do with slavery and human sacrifice.

The term Publisher. What are we publishing? Does publishing mean knocking on doors and giving out magazines?
