The origins of the this doctrine can be traced to the Battle Creek Sanatorium USA in the years before 1914. Battle Creek was a centre for Adventist medical missionaries to train. and crank medicine. Anyone who wants to know what it was like should watch the film "Getwell Ville", with our great UK star Anthony Hopkins. I hope I have spelt it correctly!!! The place was run by 'Dr'. Kellogg who later made his name in cornflakes. It was a place that seems to have been obscessed with the colon and colonic regularity. 'Dr' Kellogg, (according to my informant, who alas has been dead for about 40 years,) condemned blood transfusion in a student lecture. Quoting the Scriptures as do JWs today. My informant eventually left the Adventists and joined the ranks of the Bible Students. Returning to the UK. This was prior to 1916 as he personally met Russell in the UK. What was heard in that seminal lecture remained in the mind of this individual and eventually the idea was introduced to Knorr in the early 1940s, at a time when Rutherford, dying of cancer, held a convention in Leicester UK. Where that idiotic book " Children" was released. The individual concerned had an evening entertaining the young Knorr in his home during the convention. All this I heard from the individual himself. Knorr strongly questioned the idea but maybe it triggered something. Maybe more that eschatology has been borrowed from the adventists. No one in my imediate circle ever questioned to truth of what I have just written. I was told "It was Jehovah's due time to reveal this truth." I guess this a shock but I was there and hear it from the man himself.

Was the JW Blood Doctrine Fred Franz's baby?
by Think About It inprior to 1945 the jw's took blood transfussions.
did fred franz go off on a psuedo- bible scholar/intellectual tangent and convince the steam room gang that jehovah wanted them to not take blood transfussions?.
blood factions are evidently a personal matter now.

Theme park
by helios inhow long will it be before the wt sets up a theme park.
with all that money from the sale of brooklyn property it would be a shame not to use it for some other cash generating scheme.
we could have the hall of the presidents with robotic figures all driven by hot air.. why not the beth sareem experience.

Why not the BETH SAREEM EXPERIENCE. With a full size reconstruction with animatronic OT 'saints'. Then down to the garden to search for Judge Rutherford's grave. In the garden we can see the GREAT DATE TREE, full of dates but all of them fruitless.
Then the HALL OF MIRRORS with total distortions of everything.
Now comes the great WATCHTOWER SOUND AND LIGHT SHOW sadly that is all it is lots of sound many flashes but nothing at the end of it.
Sorry I can't think of much else but maybe a few of you good people can think of a few more items

Charles Russell: What caused his death?
by truthseeker ini would be interested to know how charles t. russell actually died.
it's said he died on a train in 1916, but there are no specifics.. did he have a heart attack, cancer or something?
was there any report made by a chief medical examiner?

I may be able to help here. The Pastor never enjoyed good health and was subject to almost continual headaches resulting from a severe fall in his youth.
His death on a train during a very busy series of lectures seems to have been caused by a severe urinary infection. There is no evidence he was poisoned. With him during his last hours was Menta Sturgeon his secretary (Ihope I spelt his name right) He recalls a graphic description of Russell's end. At least he died with "his boots on" unlike the drink soaked Rutherford.
In the early 80's I was able to interview a gentleman called Mr. Hudson who worked at the London Bethel. He informed me that around 1911 Russell was at the Bethel when he endured a massive heart attack. He went into total cardiac arrest with a total stoppage of the heart for 3 MIN. The doctor who was called expressed the view that his body was totally worn out. It is interesting that there seems to have been something of a change in Russell after that experience. For example Menta Sturgeon recalls tthat whoever spoke him would always be asked the same question by the Pastor, "Have you totally didicated yourself to the Lord, to do his will?" This was to complete strangers, not Bible Students. Mr. Hudson was at the Bethel in London when the Judge came over. He saw in him a bombastic bully and no fit man to follow in Russell's footsteps. He was also in Scotland, I think it was in Glasgow, when a year ot two later Rutherford found himself with a rebellion on his hands. From rank and file. Following a very large and heated meeting in which many hundreds were present Rutherord demanded comformity to the SOCIETY or as he put it "Let the lame ducks get out. " According to Mr. Hudson the greater bulk of the audience got up and left. Mr. Hudson remarked it was the only time he ever say Rutherford totally lost for words. I do not support Russell's theology in any shape or form my only interest is in the history of this dangerous cult. By the way Mr. Hudson was a lead projectionist for the Photodrama.

Getting out of the WT
by helios incan anyone tell me if there has ever been a case of jw relatives kidnapping another relative who wished to leave the cult.
even if the restraint only lasted a few hours.
i have an account of a rather stunned female jw who was put under what she described as " house arrest" until the judicial committee threw her out officially.

It was only a few days ago when driving through a small town in the UK I noted a KH. Nothing unusual except that one side wall was totally devoid of anything. The other side of the building revealed three very small windows, and I mean small. It made me realise just how insular and inward looking the KHs are in the UK. Our local KH has small windows but at least they have them on both sides. Is this normal? Are all KHs throughout the world like this? Recently when they speed built a KH in our area, complete with very small windows, a representative boasted that unlike churches that enjoy a dark and gloomy interior, KHs were built to enjoy lots of light. Lots of light? Well certainly not from daylight.I look at the chapel where we as a family worship and the windows sweep up to the ceiling. I visit our 12 century church and the vast gothic windows spread light everywhere. So howcome the JWs do not like the light? Could they be trying to tell us something?

WTBTS and the Cross
by Honesty in.
does anyone have any idea why the cross is such a stumbling block to the wtbs and the jehovah's witnesses?
1 corinthians 1:18 describes their belief system to a "t".

This is just another of their badly though out ideas. It seems Rutherford thought it up in the late 1930s but the brains for most of all the Judge's ideas was old Freddy Franz. .
They love to tell you the cross in a phallic symbol. Yet is not a pole even more phallic? The tell us the Ankh or life sign of the ancient Egyptians is a phallic cross. I raised this with more than one leading Egyptologist. They all said it represented an open slipper or sandle. A sign of leaving this life. Sadly the WTS is influenced in those romantic but inacurate paintings that show our Lord carrying the complete cross.
Rather the execution post was set up and the captive was forced to carry the crossbeam on his shoulders. This is shown in the film Jesus of Nazareth (circa 1975)...a very well produced film. Even De Mile in his rather crude King of Kings made in the 1920s showed the two criminals carrying crossbeams but still loaded our Lord with a complete cross. No doubt giving into sentiment of the times rather that historical truth. Yes indeed Jesus was executed on a straight piece of wood, but this was connected to an upright post at right angles.

The joy of selecting elders
by helios inmy wife and i left the wt in 1973, around the time of the great shift from congregational overseer and lesser mortals to that of elders.
it was an interesting time having been told for decades how useless elders were, we now saw everything turned upside down as congregation committees gathered in holy conclaves to try and find some elder material in the kh.
rumours flew about.

My wife and I left the WT in 1973, around the time of the great shift from Congregational Overseer and lesser mortals to that of elders. It was an interesting time having been told for decades how useless elders were, we now saw everything turned upside down as congregation committees gathered in holy conclaves to try and find some elder material in the KH. Rumours flew about. One CO was expected to move house and congregation as he just could not face seeing the coming ruin of the congregation. A joke circulated among a few cynical JWs. Having seen the CO dispatched to some central point, to meet with other COs, there to be directed by some full time dub about how to select elders,
Tthe following emerged
CO, So what you are telling us Brother is that the Socierty would have us be on the constant lookout for inteligent, open-minded men. Men who can think for themselves, have kindness, sympathy for the weak, generous in spirit with the ability to reason from the Bible alone."
DUB, Yes Brother got it in one. You must avoid placing anyone with those qualities as an elder.
You know from what I read on the great site...it looks like they still do.

Why do they walk so slowly?
by helios ini have only to turn into any road or street and if there are any jws operating within my area of vision i can pick them out.. it may only be something that occurs in uk but they actually walk at half speed.
yet if i see any local jw in the town shopping they fly along, except the very old ones.
we are in the end of the end time.

We are in the end of the end time. Any moment now big A will break out, there is a vital need to get the work done and over with but still they wander from house to house so very s-l-o-w-l-y. I am almost sure I saw a couple actually walking backwards a few weeks ago..honest.

How do you explain this scripture?
by Sunspot inhopefully, wts supporters will answer this question.. "38for i am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons,[a] neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, .
39neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of god that is in christ jesus our lord.
footnote: a: romans 8:38 or nor heavenly rulers .

Just take it as it stands. It means just that.
On the day our letters came to appear before the DF elders my wife found that scripture and was wonderfully converted by it. Do try and read the chapters surrounding the text and you will see how the whole thing fits together. Wishing you God's rich blessing
