No offense, but I really don't understand people who get out of one religion only to get into another. It's as if some people can't stand to live their lives without someone telling them what to do, or the comforting though of some mysterious power watching over them. Just my opinion. Carry on.

Part of the reason I'm so glad I'm free
by CinemaBlend innow i can pursue the career i've always wanted without guilt.
i hid my writing career for 2 years, because i couldn't let anyone know the movies that i watched.
i'm getting published in newspapers, magazines, and running my own successful website on the internet... but i couldn't tell anyone.

Elders Wives
by Octavia inever wonder how some of those brothers wrote such elloquent talks?
i just found out ( puternut told me) their wives wrote them for them.
that must be why they always clapped so loud for their husbands!

Yeah... this may be true in a rare few cases...
But not most.
You don't get to be an elder by being a total boob. Most are at least capable of writing a solid talk, when given just about everything to say in scads and scades of books.
It really isn't that hard.
It might be easy to believe they're all stupid, faceless fools, but it does take SOME intelligence to rise in ANY organization, no matter what it is.
My dad was a brilliant speaker and writer... and as a result a good Elder. I'd like to think I got some of my writing talent from him. If only he'd been able to put it to better use, maybe he wouldn't have had to scrape out a living as a mechanic all those years. -

It was driving me insane.
Now I can admit it... I watched Dogma and fucking loved it. -

JW Tsunami Report - rest of quote worth reading
by Bonnie_Clyde inyou may remember i posted two days ago about a ten-page jw tsunami report that was e-mailed to me.
it consisted of about three separate letters.
since the report was so long, i tried to copy and paste some of the quotes from a word document and only got two out of seven.

I've never known a Witness who REALLY goes to the meetings while they're on vacation. Well, maybe one or two, but they were always usually the people that everyone in the hall thought was a little wacko.

JW tsunami report - ridiculous quotes
by Bonnie_Clyde ini got a ten-page report from a friend this morning.
at one time i would have been quite impressed with the christian love that our brothers showed.
now i see that their primary concern was themselves--i saw very little concern for non-witnesses.

Actually, most of them are Muslims. ;)
The story goes that all the brothers and sisters who lived in those areas were on higher ground at kingdom halls and thus unharmed.
So that wouldn't seem to be the case, unless they're just making that up of course. -

Young People Ask: Where do I go from here?
by truthseeker inif you're a young practising jw, maybe you've read the glossy brochure released in 2002 entitled, "youths - what will you do with your life?
did the idea of a full-time career in "jehovah's service" as a bethelite, ministerial servant, or international quick-build volunteer appeal to you?
or maybe you had other interests - maybe you were already at college or studying for a degree.

I really regret the way my future was sabotaged by the religion.
I was a really bright guy, part of the talented and gifted program in my school, great grades, and I have a real talent for writing (not my opinion, teachers).
But of course I had to be a pioneer and get a practical job. So I got practical jobs and my life went nowhere. So at 20 I fought with my family and decided I was at least going to community college. So I worked a full time job, went to community college, and yes, also pioneered.... needless to say I didn't sleep for about 3 years... and social life? Forget it. By the time I got my associates degree, all my old friends at the hall had abandoned me (I was too busy to hang out with them for three years), I was 22 years old and had never had a date, and now had a degree in a very PRACTICAL FIELD that might help me pioneer... a field which I hated.
I could have gone a real school, had a life, and ended up doing something I love.
Now I look at my brother in law... who is a BRILLIANTLY talented musician. I mean I've never seen anyone like him. He's been writing his own music since he was 12. Plays 4 or 5 instruments, sings. When he lived at home, whenever anyone heard him, they'd try to offer him a gig. He played at one or two coffee houses (played only his original music).... but wouldn't do more because of course he had to devote his life to Jehovah.
Now my brother in law is at Bethel, folding laundry.
His guitar is at his parents house in a closet.
All that talent will go to waste. -

This seems like a good place to ask questions about the tsunami... if there is another thread on this subject already I apologize, please direct me there!
But... I've gotten a number of messages from my Mom claiming that almost no witnesses were killed in the Tsunami, because they were all at meetings or conventions.
Doesn't it seem like that's ALWAYS the case? Every time there is a disastor, everyone is at a meeting. So of course that means Jehovah is protecting them... except for that poor sister who was home sick (she obviously must not have been faithful).
Anyway, didn't the Tsunami happen in the early morning? Why would anyone have been at the meeting? And if it killed 200,000 people, what's the ratio of witnesses to everyone else there? Is it 1-200,000 thus making it so tha the odds are in favor of no witness being killed?
Or is this all BS propoganda that is being fed to the congregations and in fact, plenty of witnesses have been killed?
Any insights? -

PROVE That Jehovah's Witnesses DON'T Have The Truth
by minimus injws are convinced they alone have the truth.
they are scripturally trained to prove to others why they are "in the truth".
from your vantage point, how can you show this is untrue??
