"special gift" could be either being given a present that was extremely "special" to you by another or wanting a "gift" that you might not possess at this time like discernment, singing, etc.
A good singing voice.
I'm deft at the guitar, however I couldn't get through an audition for a cat's chorus.

Leolaia, Ahhh, you just reminded me of the village. I got so angry at the ending of that kindergartten written plot. I couldn't believe I had waisted my time watching it instead of doing something more constructive like recycling my ear wax.

let's assume that the 70 year prophecy will be confirmed by all archeologists and geremia 29:10 is correctly rendered "at babilonia" so 607-537 is fine.
when we get to daniel 4 we have the dream and the tree is compared to the king nebuchadnezzar.
the wt confirms this and all is fine.
a JW would defend it by showing JW stuff and saying 'it is so'
Remember JDubs are taught that they are experts, so they believe it. However, they are just ordinary people so there will be no history lesson.

i was a jw for 40 years.
although as an individual/cong/body of elders holy spirirt was prayed for, i cannot think of one moment when i thought..right now i have gods spirit acting upon me.
it was never described adequately for me to completely understand and i suspect that others felt the same, yet everyone talked as though they knew exactly how it worked.
Yep, I've experiences Holy Spirit. You have this euphoric feeling when excited amongst other blessed people.
This happens often with non JW 'hethen types', and its to do with the adrenal gland excreting its stuff.

i'd have to say for me that it was ayn rand's the fountainhead.
even though i don't agree with a lot of her philosophy, it definitely made me stumble around in a thought-induced haze for a few weeks after reading it.
Already mentioned are some that made an impresion on me :Brave New World, Life of Pi,, To Kill a Mockingbird , The Alchemist, Satanic Verses, The Blind Watchmaker, Dune, Steppenwolf
Here are a few others: The Name of the Rose, Faucaults Pendulem - an absolute must for leaving JW's, The Lord of the Rings, Crime and Punishment, and the highly aclaimed 'minimus chapter 1'
i had a discussion years ago with an elder about this topic.
he said life was a gift no matter what we had to endure.
(we were talking about people who went through horrible things e.g.
No, I thought life was a burden while in the cult. Now I know its a its a miraculous gift of chance, never to be repeated.

.
i'd like to hear comments from anyone who had a relative die because of the watchtower society's misguided policy on blood transfusions.. alanf
I was with my father when the surgeon said the only posible chance to help was a blood transfusion and he said no. The surgen then said he had tried all other methods and now that there is nothing he could do, and it was now time to cry.
