I don't think there was anything wrong with what you said to that child. It was just a random event that you saw this child and you made some casual conversation with him. You didn't follow him out the door or anything like that. Even though he might have only been about 10 years old, you never know what's in his mind. He could be one of those kids who can't wait until he's 18 years old so that he can make a run for it out of the organization. Maybe he can't do anything about it now, and maybe he will never be baptized. Maybe he does want to go to college. All you did was plant some seeds to let him know that there is life after the Watchtower---after all your own kids turned out well.

My youngest who is still in the borg told me when 9/11 happened that there were several talks about how Jehovah is "beginning" the destruction, and that it will happen in phases. They were told in three or four talks that NO Jehovah's Witnesses were killed in any of the 9/11 attacks, but that Jehovah preserved them (I'd love to know if that's true). She also told me that Jehovah picked the Twin Towers especially because they are a source of the worship of money and how now one horn has gone into Babylon the Great's side. She also said that in the talk the brothers warned that because of these things such as Katrina, 9/11 and the tsnumai (I can't spell dat) it shows that Jehovah is making ready for the final strike against earth. Sooooooooooooo, I asked her, have they said any dates? Her reply, "Yes, but we are not supposed to tell anyone". So, I suppose it'll be surprise. To be frank, I'd much rather be destroyed than to live in some antiseptic world filled with Jehovah's Witlesses.

It is the most ironic thing that JW's can "leave" this organization, live a lifestyle that is very contrary to WT teachings, (be it abusing drugs, alcohol, etc...) and they thing that bothers them the most is they don't want to be an "apostate". They can be anything else, whether it be criminal, or whatever, but they behave that to "stop believing" and check out other information critical of the Watchtower IS the "unforgivable sin" of apostasy. That is the most scary thing to them.

Well Blondie, I'm sure her husband is "full of it". All he does is try to control and manipulate her. He's learned very well from the meetings at the KH!

I'm sure she would want to get a hold of that book. I've never seen this book myself, and I'd like to see it. Is it a new book?
Also, he carries around in his NWT copies of some various "Questions from Readers" from different Watchtowers. One is the 8/15/02 WT , and the question is:
"What
guidance do the Scriptures provide about child training when one parent is one of Jehovah’s Witnesses and the other is not?Two key Scriptural principles provide guidance about child training for a Witness parent who has a non-Witness mate. One is: "We must obey God as ruler rather than men." (Acts 5:29) The other is: "A husband is head of his wife as the Christ also is head of the congregation." (Ephesians 5:23) The latter applies not only to wives with Witness husbands but also to those with non-Witness mates. (1 Peter 3:1) How can a Witness parent balance these principles when teaching his or her children?
If the husband is one of Jehovah’s Witnesses, he is responsible for making both spiritual and physical provisions for his family. (1 Timothy 5:8) Although the unbelieving mother may spend more time with their children, the Witness father should teach his children by giving spiritual training at home and by taking them to Christian meetings, where they will benefit from moral instruction and wholesome association."
Anyway, she was very angry when she found that because he's been treating her very badly and throws a tantrum when she takes the kids to her church (Methodist) for Sunday School. And he's definitely operating out of fear and he's angry with her because he can't control her or force her and their children to become JW.

A friend of mine is married to a JW. Not by choice, but her husband became JW just a couple years ago. However, he has been quite mean to her since he became JW and bullies her around. He's always saying that there is some "special" talk at the KH and that he MUST take the children. Of course, she's upset with him all the time now and doesn't want her children at the KH. She's thinking of getting a divorce, because he treats her so badly. Anway, she wants to know what the big deal about this "special talk" was all about. Anybody know, or was he just bluffing?

From one cult to another
by JH ini was the only jw in my family.
by that i mean my parents never were jw nor was my sister, and i'm single.. when i started fading back in the early 90's as a jw, my sister and her husband decided to start attending meetings with the evangelists, then the pentecostal religion, and then the baptists.
they're baptized in that religion.

You know, I've always thought that if my mother had joined a Baptist Church, instead of becoming a JW, our family would have been much better off. But instead she joined the JW's and it just fragmented and distanced us from the rest of the family. Then when my sister and I decided to leave the WT, we were already grown and married, eventually had children, but our children have never really gotten to know their grandparents because of the shunning policies of the WT. I just know that if my mother had chosen to become Baptist, Lutheran, Methodist, etc....the family (Catholic) may have been somewhat surprised, but not angry and we still would have all gotten together for holidays, birthdays, etc...But with the JW's, it just separated us from everyone, and then our lives revolved around meetings and going to the KH.
I'm sure your mother is feeling lonely and hopefully, she is making new friends and can join in on other activities that she can enjoy since she is widowed. It certainly is a lot better than sinking into some kind of depression, she's getting on with her life in a healthy way.

Be sure and read articles on what defines a cult. Usually Baptists aren't cultic; however, some churches can be very high control, but just being a member of a Baptist church wouldn't necessarily mean that the person is in a cult. Here are a couple of good articles: http://freeminds.org/psych/lifton.htm http://www.freedomofmind.com/resourcecenter/faq/ You might familiarize yourself with those articles and see if the Baptist group that your mother is involved with meets any of this criteria for being a cult.

I don't know if she ever lived in Santa Barbara, but I have information from another source that she may live in Paso Robles now. I'm not sure if she would use the name Velasco anymore since my brother divorced her, she may be gone back to her maiden name of Chacon. The name Heidi Chacon can't be that common of a name. But she is approximately 43 or 44 years old now.

My brother was living in Escondido when he met her, and when they were divorced they lived in San Marcos. Technically it's not "City of San Diego" but what I would call the San Diego metro area.
