freedom is subjective but when you compare it to what we have had...its a damn sight better now...interesting point though.

Has anyone got anything positive from being a JW?
by diamondblue1974 in.
i hear and read alot about peoples experiences and some are pretty horrendous....does anyone actually feel they have benefited from being a jw at least in one way or another...me personally i feel i benefited from the ministry school as public speaking is part of my job and has definately improved career prospects?.

by diamondblue1974 in.

Being a JW is a cop out for being as tight as a ducks ass... what better or more convenient reason not to buy gifts...its against our religious beliefs...totally wrong....at first i thought it was a cop out but now i can see the actual reasons why the society ban it....for self esteem reasons...as another poster suggested on another thread about a different issue.

Celebrating my birthday...
by Jankyn inhi, all.. i celebrated (yes, indeedy, right down to cake and singing) my 45th birthday on saturday, and i learned a few things in the process.. my partner, who is appalled that i never had a birthday party or presents as a child, decided to make my birthday a week-long celebration.
each day, i had another gift--little things that she knew i'd like, like a box of almond roca, a little plastic moose (i love moose-s), and a book about natural ways to get the slugs out of my garden.
and each day, she made up a little poem about how glad she was that i was born.

Happy Birthday....you are so right...there is absolutely no biblical support for the non celebration of birthdays and you have hit the nail on the head havent you; (idea for a new thread actually)...the reasoning behind it is to take away any self esteem our children have....after all how many of our parents or how many of we as parents replace birthdays and christmas with something as personal as gifts?

WHY are you here ? (on the board)
by frenchbabyface in.
.
ok ... to me it's not totally related to jw life actually, i'm here because i'm used now to chat with people (you know like you go into a cafe and share wathever you want with whoever as this board is very rich and full for immediat interaction), support them, get some support ... i just like that ... also of course it's very interesting at the same time to follow some news and get information that i might spit back to my familly in time to wake them up .... what about you ?

by minimus inare you able to tell if someone is a jw just by looking or listening to a person?
what are the give away signs that make you just know that they're a witness?

just go to the nearest coffee bar or cafe on a saturday morning at about 10.30 and you will find them.
Either that look for an encyclopedia britanicca salesmen...if he or she lingers on an empty doorstep for longer than a minute then they are JW, probably of the pioneer variety...quite a common specimen apparently.

I'm thinking of going back
by Smoky inover the weekend my cousin came to visit from mi, and her husband (elder) started to do his shepperding thing with me (have not attended meetings for over 1 year), and made a compeling argument about how the holy spirit is given by god only if you attend meeting and go to field service...etc, etc.
and the whole "faith and works" issue.
it was a different angle that i have never heard before, about me being a "instrument or tool" of god...blah, blah, blah... anyhow, it got me thinking about going back...especially when things are not going to well for me right now... (he said its because i left jehovah).. how can i convince myself that this is not true?

another useful analogy for the poison challice is this one...
you have a selection of 100 cakes in front of you; you are told that one of them has dogshit in it...(only a little though). which cake do you take and eat?
