i wasnt the most academic of children although i had some capability but i could read quite well by the time i was 4 years old at least for my age; i have always read as a child and still read now as an adult both professionally (research) and for pleasure.

i have always been able to write too...and pretty much advanced as well as my peers did in school...perhaps i am lucky, i certainly feel like i am when illiteracy amongst adults and children is rife at present...however.. i remember when i was 16 the wts in the uk were pushing through a scheme teaching those who were not as able to read and write...and an elder in the hall made a point of coming to me and suggesting that i should actually attend the training!!

!....i explained that i could read and write well enough and didnt need to be taught basic literacy... he said that i might learn something new and should respect jehovahs order of things and show appreciation...i did decline his kind offer rather abruptly....but wtf??

I have posted this on another thread, but the worst thing an elders wife ever said to me was that a sister was partly to blame for her husband sexually abusing her daughter because she had been withholding sex from him. she had post natal depression at the time.

she also said to me, as i was a single mother at the time, that i may have taken "comfort" from my children when i was alone.

i said i did not like what she was implying and that it was a world of difference between cuddling your child when you are both upset and what that brother had done. she seemed to see no difference and stood by her ideas.

WTF...it goes to show that some JW's have no particular idea of what seperates paternal and maternal love from sexual abuse...no wonder paedophiles flourish within the JW's.

How can you even partly justify child abuse by suggesting it was because he was sexually frustrated? yes by all means masturbate, go see a prostitute as immoral that might be but a child....Zaphod I dont know how you didnt fly off the handle.

I cant get over that....how sick?

what would be the thing that you had most trouble giving up.. for me, apart from thinking, it would be swearing (that's cussin' for our american friends).

i absof*ck*nglutely love effing and blinding and i'm sure that i could not stop.

not even if my life depended on it.

i finally went and did something i've always wanted to do growing up as a witness.

i joined a karate class.. i go for my yellow belt test this weekend.

Im a firm believer that condecending comments are the elders ways of trying to manipulate you into coming to their conclusions as opposed to your own. They will never on a matter of conscience ever say that you are wrong but show you scriptures or paragraphs on the conclusions you should draw...how manipulative...

I definitely felt that some of the things said by elders were designed to put you down rather than upbuilt.

I think you have hit the nail on the head there Crumpet...it definately was nothing to do with genuinely trying to improve my skills was it?

Do You Shine on Your Job?

have you noticed that some people just have that certain star appeal on the job?

some folks have an almost celebrity status while others prefer to stay quietly in the background.

many just are naturally popular where they work.

I sometimes can take my jobs way too seriously, investing extravagent amounts of energy to a job that most of my peers just kinda' take at face value.

I have a tendency to drive too hard, myself that is, and attack a job like one who goes on a butterfly hunt with a 12 gauge shotgun. Then I wonder why some of my co-workers kinda' think I'm a couple beers short a 6-pack.

It kinda' follows in every other thing I do as well. NTH Degree Extremetism. Just looking to see where I might be able to gauge some balance.

I know how this feels...balance is important and yet the most difficult of things to establish...good luck.

It cant be the only incident where the elders have made remarks like this so I thought I would ask you lot about your experiences.
