Going to my first meeting this morning
by Bug inhi there i'm new here, my name is fiona i am not yet a jw and have not started to study yet.
i am very interested in doing so but since i am still new to all this i thought i should attend some meetings first.
i am going to my first one today at the kelvin hall in glasgow, i am quite nervous as i do not know what to expect but also excited at the same time since it could be the beginning of a huge change in my life.

you all seem to think that I'm just going to convert over night and that I'm stupid enough to not doing any research
that's not that Bug.. How many of us did convert and are hurt now?? it's just a piece of advice... we just want to prevent you from being hurt too.
hope your researches will be successfull!

Never ending JWism.....AAAgh!
by Gill indid you , when you were a 'proper' jw, or even a jw of any description, believe that after armageddon you wouldn't have to go to the meetings and out on field service anymore?
surely, after armageddon the control and work from jehovah would get even greater and the nightmare of being a jw would truly never end.. do you get my drift or have i had too much merlot?.
i ask this because my father told me that 'they' needed all these new khs for when the dead are resurrected and they have to look after them and study with them.

Cathedrals
by Peppermint insince leaving the jw?s i have developed a real appreciation of old cathedrals.
these places are beautiful and really took some building.
how boring and lifeless kingdom halls are in comparison.

Two types of elder?????
by chuckyy inits my experience after actually being an elder for a number of years that there are in fact...two types of elder.. type 1....genuine, actually cares about the people in the congregation and wasn't actually bothered too much if he became an elder or not.. type 2....very legalistic, cares more about organizational laws rather than people and lacks compassion and empathy.
this type is more of a spiritual policeman.
he wanted desperately to be an elder and now that he is, he loves the sense of power and prestige.. this has been my experience and if there are more type 2 elders on a body, the results can be disastrous.. what has been your experience???

I would say that in my congregation there are one type 1, and three type 2 (well only two now, one lost his functions last month because he had a relation with the widow of an other elder who died in may because he didn't accept a blood transfusion). So there is also the type of the sister who absolutly wants to be married to an elder!!

just introducing myself
by adri2 ini never did become a jw but i did associate with them for a few years by attending meetings, going house to house, and all that fun stuff.
anyway, i have so much in my mind that i cannot possibly say in one post.
basically i saw/heard many things during my association with jw that i just didn't agree with or just made me wonder if they were truly teaching the "truth", which i have recently come to the conclusion that there is no truth.

can't you find something interesting to do all day long (the meeting is on sunday like in France i suppose) in your new area? something like a big walk for example, to show them how wonderfull it is where you live... do you live in a town or in the countryside?
well, i really want to tell you good luck!!!!
