If you DA yourself are you giving in to the GB?
by bronzefist ini'm not criticizing anyone's decision to da themselves...just wondering what the advantages are.. if the whole da thing is something made up by the gb why make them happy by playing by their rules?
how are they hurt by your decision?
why not just walk away?

Thanks for your replies.
I was just thinking how when I came "in" they TOLD me I had to go to my old religion WITH A LETTER telling them I no longer wanted to be a part of their organization. When I did this that church looked at me like I was insane...ONLY because it was an asinine thing to do. Who else reqires this????? IT was an obey...obey....obey before we let you play with us.
Now they are TELLING you to write a letter DAing yourself BEFORE we acknowledge that you are no longer one of us. Don't you give them the authority to cut you off from family and friends? F&F might not talk to you because you just walk away, but still it's their personal choice to be aholes. Why put yourself on the guillotine and then say "wait a minute let ME drop the blade to cut my head off"?

I would also add that for me it is a way to get them to JUST LEAVE ME ALONE! I don't want them to just randomly show up at my house anymore trying to get me back to meetings, or trying to share a scripture with me, or even worse some crap from the literature.
Things might be different in different locations after all. When I was an MS (5 years) I know the elders would make calls ( very rarely) to the Do Not Call ons. They were suppose to call on them every 6 months to see if they felt the same or moved. From my experience they only called on those DA'd or DF'd when they were asked to call. I could be wrong but I thought they marked the doorposts of those "dangerous" ones with "goats" blood. Their thinking was if they want to be re-instated let them come to the meetings. My daughter has been DF'd for years and has never worried about getting contacted by the elders. They have never showed up.

I can understand taking the decision out of their hands if by staying you decide to "speak against the organization" to family and friends thereby leading to DFing.
What lead you to your decision?

When a jw has a major fall out within the congregation...
by Check_Your_Premises in.... how often does it lead to an eventual exit?.
i know some real nice, joined as adult jw's who have had a major fallout with their cong.. they are model, idealistic jw's.
but politics between these folks and an elder led to him being summarily stripped of his "privileges".

Before I happened upon this site I thought I was one of the few that have come up against pig headed elders. It truley is amazing how wide spread the problem is. I started out as a very trusting person in this organization. Needless to say my eyes were opened. All it took was a situation where the BOE had absolutely no clue as to how to handle it in a common sense way. Everything was all politics and friendships with the offending party.
Burdens are often times placed on the shoulders of the innocent. It's their obligation to forgive the offense no matter how tramatic it may be. The molested one MUST forgive the molester. Once the burdens become too heavy to bear the innocent victim makes an exit leaving the mindless to tsk tsk tsk about how they turned their back on Jehovah.

Have any of you seen the movie "The Village"?
by Lady Liberty inabout a month ago a movie was on cable called "the village".
it was a freaky movie, and i was a little uncomfortable watching it, but nothing ever happened that made me turn the channel.
turns out there is quite a twist in the end which explained the freakyness.

A group of active witnesses got together from my congregation and watched The Village and saw no connecton between it and the organisation. Their only concern was if the movie contained demonic influences. Goes without saying that they didn't get to watch The Sixth Sense by the same director.

For some reason I loved Vol. 1 more than Vol. 2 even though there were many terrific scenes in Vol. 2.

No Watchtower Magazines
by JH in.
often in the past, after missing many months of meetings, i just showed up at the hall, and i had such a hard time finding a watchtower magazine, just to follow the study.. even elders were trying to find one for me, and sometimes there was just one left, and often there was none, so i remember being given one from a witness who decided to follow with his spouse in her magazine.. what i'm getting to is that they don't have tons of magazines at the hall, just there waiting for some newbie to show up.. i wonder why they go door to door, if they can't even have a couple of spare watchtower magazines incase a stranger just showed up...

"Publishers" are being taught not to over-order magazines because very few are paying for them. Needs of the congregation talk at the local hall are always "Consider the cost of our VALUABLE things." Instead of the magazines the hall has copies made on their copy macine from the dark ages.
