just found this site today and as well as being amused, concerned and shocked at some of the stuff i?ve found here, reading the bios and posts of other ex jw?s has in a way made me feel a little bit less alone in the world.
don?t get me wrong, i?m not an emotionally scared loner, it?s like i?ve finally found someone else to stand outside morning assemble with.

Well thank you all and what a day it?s been. I?ve been on for 11 hours strait just wallowing in conversation from people that have an understanding of part of my life that to date (20 year since I left at the age of 16) has totalled 3 others, and one of those didn?t talk about it.

A Divided Household
by HadEnuf inwhilst taking my morning shower, where i always seem to do my best thinking (please, no rude remarks concerning showering, thank you)...i got to thinking about my dad.
our family was raised jw's; except for my dad, who knew better!
he passed away about 20 years ago and today, whilst in my shower, (oh yeah, i said that already)...i thought how hard that must of been on him.

What an empty life it must have been for him. All because we were in a cult.
I get the feeling from what you've written that he made up for it in the love he must have had for his family.

Anyone else get the illustrated bible stories as a gift. Man that was a hard one to look surprised and pleased about, makes you appreciate the giving of socks.

Yeah I remember non Christmas Day. We use to have ours in between the actual date and new years. We would go to my nans, have a high tea and then be given our non Christmas gifts, we were always told that it was because it was the best tiem of the year to get present?s. After that we would have it on my parents wedding anniversary but that was given up because it felt like trying to jam xmas into something it didn?t fit in. Now we have it when I take the family down to Kent for Burns night.

Bethelites... Could they live in a commune?
by JustTickledPink ini thought about the logistics of armeggedon coming today... and the earth being a wordwide natural disaster.
about what would be needed, camping skills, farming skills, etc... and i thought of the average bethalite who has been binding books for the last 20 years, or cleaning toilets, or cooking in a modern kitchen all their lives... .
could the average bethalite move from the brooklyn lifestyle right into a commune type lifestyle and make it?

From what I remember of the inspirational pictures (cerca 1985) they will face it wearing smart two-piece suits, smiling white toothy smiles and carrying attaché cases. I always assumed that the said cases contained the appropriate survival rations, Swiss army knife, polythene sheet, etc.
