  Do you group think or think for yourself?

  as a witness, i was very prone to follow the group of thinking that was in the kingdom hall and not speak out for myself.

  i am sure a lot of us would agree, this is the general pattern of most good little witnesses.

  yet, in my post-witness life experience, i have learned this is about as common a thing in life, as there could be.

  Sociologists define groupthink as the tendency of group members to conform, resulting in a narrow view of something. A classic example is in 2003 when U.S. leaders went along with the idea of stockpiles of WMD in Iraq. Look how dangerous that ended up being. I think it is always a good idea to listen to that little voice inside you that can either be screaming or whispering very softly. It is usually right. It is the reason I got out of JWs. There was a huge price to pay, but it turned out for the best. I wish our leaders would have done so, despite the immediate consequences for standing up.

  It is good to send thank-you letters to companies, city departments, management, building

  personnel, and so forth, who gave outstanding service on behalf of the convention. However,

  it is not recommended that thank-you letters be sent to volunteers, whether they have a

  large or small assignment. Appreciation can be expressed to them personally as we work

  with them or as part of other correspondence. Sending official thank-you letters can become

  burdensome, since they come to be expected by those receiving them and can cause hurt to

  others who do not. Of course, the committee may occasionally wish to send an official expression

  of appreciation for an outstanding or unusual contribution of goods or services

  made by a brother or sister.

  Here is just a small example of why outsiders have a very different perception of what insiders do. I know there are much larger examples, but little PR things like this make others THINK that JWs are these wonderful loving people. But those on the inside who sacrafice so much aren't even worth a thank you note - too expensive and time consuming, ya know.

  Use of Sisters

  Good judgment should be exercised in using sisters in departments and offices where their

  husbands are located. Neither the Convention Committee nor the department overseers

  should give their wives a work assignment where they would be supervising or directing

  others. There is no objection if the wives work in the same department with their husbands,

  providing their assignments are in keeping with what is stated here.

  How in the world did I stay in this crappola for so long??? How could I have been so duped. Reading this makes me feel so gross and powerless inside.

  Getting df'd for telling others about the WTS and the UN fiasco

  not too long ago in a local congregation in massachusetts, two people were df'd for telling others about the wts involvement with the un...anyone else hear of this happenning in your area?

  i guess teling othere the truth about the wts is not allowed either.

  the lack of honesty and humility in this group never ceases to amaze me.

  Well I think word has got out that this is an "apostate" topic and therefore, if you are aware of it you have obviously been talking to apostates and ergo are a dog returning to it's vomit. Of course anything that the society has done that isn't positive (can be negative if it is fulfilling prophecy) is considered apostate. Pathetic!

  Preaching trip to Minnesota

  just returned from minnesota.

  i was invited to preach the sermon and take questions during sunday school about how to reach jw's with the simple truth of christ.

  a number of mennonites from a local church also were there.

  i read someone's post today where he indicated as a jw he had a guilty conscience because he didn't have a submissive wife.

  i'm trying to wrap my brain around that.

  I need a new pro camera. I will have to buy one next month and it will set me back about $5000. My back-up camera died yesterday.
