  No Clapping at Wild Statements at DC????!!!!

  i just read a post that said the audience was not obediently clapping at the convention when the speakers made wild statements (presumably with the rising nazi voice).

  did anyone else notice this.. will others look out for it at their dc and tell us?.

  i'm not going.. bwaaaaahhhhhhh.

  The first time I noticed the compulsory clapping was at a DC right after all the "jws are childmolester" stories came out.

  The speaker said something to the effect of, "And unlike the Catholic Church we came out immediately and condemned this sort of behaviour!!!"

  The applause was deafening for several minutes.

  I just sat there thinking, "So let me get this right, you guys are bragging about stating publicly that child molestation is wrong?"

  With the display of this kind of moral clarity and courage, they clearly must be God's Organization!!!

  What did you do over the weekend?

  I went to see the fireworks for the first time in about 3 years.

  The wife was working so I told the kids, "I am going, you can come if you want".

  They all decided to come with me?!

  My 2yr old daughter loved it!!! She screamed her head off for about 10 minutes. It got so people were watching her instead of the fireworks!

  I figure the jw-cackle-fest lit up this morning to discuss my "opposer" behavior. I will take it as an opportunity to explain that "I am loyal only to God. Remember, a man can not serve two masters. I (unlike you) would never put my faith in any man made institution (or governing body), because anything made by man is inevitably flawed. So my going to the fireworks was in no way an act of worship or a showing of faith in these United States (unlike you who were baptized in the name of the Father, the Son, the Holy Spirit, and the governing body). I just the 2yr old would like to see them."

  She, of course, will make no connection between my statement about the dangers of putting faith in a man made institution and her own blasphemous worship of the organization.

  Random Thoughts 7-5-05: JW's and Monty Python

  i have always found the use of the name jehovah by the jw's to be wholly unremarkeable.

  i had heard that name many times growing up, from many different denominational backgrounds.

  when i read pre-russell bible commentaries i find the name used consistently and often.

  Wife is pretty much done!

  i haven't been here much for the last 6 months or so because... (drum roll please) my wife has pretty much called it quits!

  she's not been to a meeting now in over a year!

  (well she went to visit a gung-ho friend for the weekend and went to one sunday) no service in at least twice that long!

  Can you tell me about this "inspection"

  it seems that at the 2005 district convention, that the idea that jesus had come in 1919 and had chosen the wts, was mentioned three times.. i have yet to see where this was proven other than the wts "saying" that it happened.. can anyone show the proof concerning this monumental event?.

  They may still say it, but methinks it isn't going to be seen in print a lot anymore.

  I got my hands on the new pub, "What Does the Bible Really Teach". Rumor has it that this book will replace the Knowledge book.

  From my brief scan, 1919 is noticeably absent. Also I saw no mention of "The Faithful and Discreet Slave" doctrine.

  I have always found the use of the name Jehovah by the jw's to be wholly unremarkeable. I had heard that name many times growing up, from many different denominational backgrounds. When I read pre-Russell Bible commentaries I find the name used consistently and often. The jws always act so amazed that I had heard the name before. When I assure them that I have, they usually dismiss this fact with something like, "well we use it more!!!" type statement.
  

  I have also been amused by how whenever a movie (Indiana Jones: The Last Crusade) or something uses the name Jehovah, they act like it is some sort of validation of their faith. Then I started thinking about the very amusing (but unfortunately too blasphemous for me to watch now) movie "The Life of Brian". There is one scene where this old man gets stoned for using the name Jehovah. Since he is already doomed to death, he starts dancing around saying "Jehovah, Jehovah, Jehovah". I couldn't help but wonder if a jw would consider the Life of Brian to be some sort of validation of their faith?

  So that got me thinking about Monty Python at the same time I was thinking about the jw's. I couldn't help but notice that the jw's (and any sacred name type sect for that matter) are kind of like the "Knights Who Say Nee" of Christianity. I mean seriously.

  What about saying a word is remarkeable or makes a person in any way special?

  Any moron can say a word!!!

  Doublethink: New Light and Faithful Discreet Slave Doctrines

  jws say that "the light gets brighter" because the understanding of their leadership is not perfect (not completely correct) and is constantly subject to revision.

  one might ask, if the teachings are bible based, how can they be subject to revision?

  because the bible doesn't give explicit directives/commentary on every question of life we may encounter.

  I have recently asked how their doctrine Jesus' return in 1874 and 1914 can be rectified with the following verse:
  

  Matthew 24:23-26 23 "Then if anyone says to YOU, ‘Look! Here is the Christ,’ or, ‘There!’ do not believe it. 24
  For false Christs and false prophets will arise and will give great signs and wonders so as to mislead, if possible, even the chosen ones. 25
  Look! I have forewarned YOU. 26
  Therefore, if people say to YOU, ‘Look! He is in the wilderness,’ do not go out; ‘Look! He is in the inner chambers,’ do not believe it
  

  First of all it explicitly says that anyone who claims Christ has returned is not to be believed.

  Now if we put that aside, we still have to deal with the fact that by their own admission that Christ returned in 1914, that they falsely claimed he returned in 1874. By their own admission they claim Christ returned when He did not, and therefore they exhibited behavior that Christ used to describe "false prophets".

  Now any JW worth his salt will tell you that, "the path of the righteous will get brighter" (and if he is any good he will slip the phrase "in the end times" for good measure even though it doesn't say that)

  But here is the question, even if we assume that "new light" verse means what they say it does, the path gets brighter for the righteous. Not people who act like false prophets!

  Maybe I will get an answer tonight?

  How/Why were the Jehovah Witnesses chosen?

  i am not a jw, never have been, but lost my wife (a japanese national) to them in 2003. i have been in and out of some of these forums trying to learn as much as possible about what drove my ex-wife to, for the most part, reject me and take her jw congragation as her new family, her new counselors, her new best friends, etc.

  a jw doctrine that has always bugged me is the belief that jesus came to earth in 1918/19, or there-a-bouts, and chose them as his one and only representative orgainization on earth (i think i have it right).

  some may take this the wrong way, as it may sound a bit glib, and i apologise in advance if this is the case and i offend anyone, but my ex-wife truely believes, no matter that she can't explain why (and maybe this is my answer.

  No matter how much you come to understand about the Witnesses, what will it really matter? You know I feel for you. You know I love you brotha. I just wonder why you still hang out here? You divorced your wife. You have moved on. Why not move on?

  I am not trying to be an a-hole. I just want you to be happy. You have been through enough. Maybe you need to understand what happened to you. Maybe you need some rational explanation. I just am not sure there is one.

  All I am saying is that If I wasn't married to my wife anymore, I wouldn't ever want to think about the witnesses ever again!!! This is an extremely boring subject!!!

  this is how you want it because "body you" is kind of a moron.. fact 2: all living things have two primary desires: to stay alive, and to have offspring.. this is a basic, defining biological fact.

  of course "brain you" doesnt think, "i want to talk to that cute boy because i want to procreate", but "body you" is!

  Your mind doesn't, but your body does. That is why you have a sex drive. You like sex right?

  Ok, I know this is alot of over-generalizing. This is a very complicated subject. I just tried to distill it down, and put in a concise and readable format, everything I don't want my daughter to find out the hard way.

  So what do you think Crumpy? Would this be effective? Should I give this to my daughter and sit down to talk to her about it?
