  Yep. When Gore was running for president. He made a statement that he invented the internet!

  I don't think he actually used the words "invented". I believe it was a statement made in context of some legislation that helped fund the connections between university and military computers. I think he said, "I helped create the internet".

  But it was a pretty funny statement, reminisent of "making outreageous claims like he invented the question mark". It caught on, and now is firmly entrenched in the American Lexicon. Right up there with "I voted for the war before I voted against it", "strategery", "don't misunderestimate me", and "It depends what the meaning of the word is, is".

  so said an elder's wife who is considered the most respected sister in the congregation.

  she said this at my mom's bookstudy where many elderly attend.

  when my mother told me what the elder's wife has said, i said, "well, it's better to know now where you stand with jehovah than later, i guess".

  since the entire scriptural, historical, and medical basis for the ban on blood is baseless and incoherent, ultimately it rests on the credibility of the wt as god's organization.. of course we can't rely on that either, because the history of the wt includes a ban on organ transplants and vaccinations.

  today they allow those treatments, and therefore by their own admission they incorrectly placed restrictions on them in the past.

  unquestionably people died adhering to those restrictions.

  From my military friends that have come back from both Gulf wars it is common knowledge within the 'boots on the ground' groups of men and women in the Gulf area that most have been shipped to Syria.

  I have heard this but I haven't seen one thread of evidence presented to corroborate it. I have heard it the evidence exists but it has been witheld because the French and Russian governments actually helped the Iraqis remove the stockpiles. Not sure if that passes the sniff test. Why would the Iraqis need their help? Why didn't they find the intact facilities that generated these materials?

  One of the great tragedies of the Iraq War was that it deeply discredited the premise of the U.S. removing dictators who have ambitions of creating such weapons programs. If Iran gets nukes because the U.S. is so discredited, then the Iraq War was clearly a critical strategic failure in the war against Islamo-fascism, whether they produce a stable government or not.

  Why do you suppose that is?

  Halliburton and other companies enriched by the war?

  Repubs do better when there is a perceived external threat to the USA?

  I am just curious. Why do they have to be evil? Why can't they just be mistaken? Or hold a different set of assumptions about how the world works?

  Is it Iran's right to develop it, or the USA's right to block it? And if you can, base your answer according to International Law.

  It is their right to develop a peaceful nuclear program.

  Is their program a cover for a weapons program?

  Should they be allowed to develop a weapons program?

  If you lived in Israel would you allow it?

  Does the idea of the Iranians with a nuclear deterrent bother you at all given their history of extremism, terrorism, local hegemic ambitions, and their close proximity to critical oil fields and shipping lanes?

  Right, wrong, international law? Sounds good and all, but everyone will be sorry if those nuts get nukes.

  i know some real nice, joined as adult jw's who have had a major fallout with their cong.. they are model, idealistic jw's.

  but politics between these folks and an elder led to him being summarily stripped of his "privileges".

  The problems are not unique to a given congregation or a few "bad elders." The problems are systemic.

  I think that is probably one of the biggest thresholds a jw can cross; when they realize that all these examples of bad behaviour are not anomolies but rather representative of fundamental flaws in the system of thought. The most critical flaw I think is to presume to much authority to some people to interfere and control the lives of other ADULTS.

  It can be difficult for a parent living in the home with a child who they have known their whole lives to make proper decisions and judgements. How can an adult make such decisions for another adult in situations they really could only practically know very little about.

  So back to this poor misguided couple. Any ideas, devious or otherwise (ala RR) that might help to worsen their plight (and therefore actually help them to gain some control over their lives).

  I was just going to try to catch one of them alone and ask a few open ended questions. If they jump through, then I will know they are ready.

  I know most leave cults because they have a bad experience. I am sure many are to timid and brainwashed to allow it to free their mind, but many do.

  I will look for opportunities to nudge them through the door of independant thought. Not so easy. I am a former "difficult study" on the verge of outright "opposing ubm" status... a suspicious character indeed.
