You live in Texas, which I believe gives college tuition to people who have served in the military.

I hate living with effing psycho parents
by tsunami_rid3r ini have a mom who would rather me not go to college, keep me locked up in the house, and just serve jehovah.
i have a weak dad, instead of her being subjected to him, he's subjected to her.
he's on my side on most of the part but he's just weak on setting her straight.

Did You Ever Think You'd No Longer Be A Witness?

MJ,
Yeah, that is a depressing fact I have noticed as well.
I know it isn't all bad. There are many positive byproducts to the jw life.
Unfortunately it comes at a very high price.
Hopefully the constant, relentless help of a loved one can help free the bonds much sooner than someone dummying into it on their own.

by Check_Your_Premises inthe more i learn about the dubs the more i understand so many things that take place.
one thing that has been of interest to me is all the politics that go into choosing people for the various tasks.

Is it just like all other human endeavors where men seek advancement and women (sorry ladies but this is historically true, even if it isn't as true today) seek status through their husbands position?
Do jobs have to open up before someone can be chosen?
Are guys always jockeying for position and stabbing eachother in the back to get a spot?
Does one guy always end up running the show, and the other elders divide along "party lines"?
When spot opens up, do cong members "campaign" for people?
Do elders meet regularly? What do they usually cover in their meetings.
What are the common elder "types"? What are their identifiable traits?
Help me and other non-jws understand what is REALLY going on.

What book helped "open your eyes"
by Shawn inthe obvious two would be coc and isocf.
are there any others that had an impact on your beliefs/doubts?
are there any that are not apostate?

Shawn,
Since you are not a former dub, I don't think ALL of COC will hit you that hard. I think your time could be spent better elsewhere. There are some very good chapters in it though. Read the ones about Predictions and Presumptions through to This Generation. It will give you a good rundown of the bs and where to find it in their pubs.
The rest of it is just his story, and what he went through. It got kind of long winded sometimes. You can tell this guy used to write for the WT. I do recommend it for Cat-er-day though. From what I hear, that book really opens jw eyes and shatters their world.
It is the blue pill.

I think my favorite part of the one I torpedoed, was listening to the sponsoring dub...
"She told me she quit her study. She just isn't ready"
I nod.
"Wow that is too bad."

High Noon - Just a great classic on courage
Gone With the Wind - I love Melanie Wilkes' character as it is probably the best example of proper Christian behavior, ie not being judgemental or using your morals to imagine yourself superior to others)
The Passion - I just love the part where Jesus crushes the snake. I try to take on that attitude when I am tempted. I hate that snake.
Zulu - Great example of working your plan and sticking to it
The Searchers - Great example of just being a stubborn, relentless sob
The Holy Grail - Because strange women, lying in ponds, distributing swords, really is no basis for a system of government

I stopped quite a few going into it by simply showing them that film
Isn't that the best! I have been an opposer for about 3 months. Already I have bagged one! I caught wind of someone I knew starting a study. I passed on some info by proxy and the study was quickly dropped.
I think I will start notching... something everytime I bag one. Maybe my Bible!
