I remember those rules, some of them anyway, especially the one about guns, yes our cong tried to also instill a rule about not having a gun in the house etc. i had 41 mag, 270 remingto, 30:30 winchester, 25 Auto, etc. bow and arrows hunting types I know they didn't like it. f em.

What silly rules did your congregation make up?
by weinermcgee inelders were famous for making up stupid rules with no bible base at all as an ego trip i guess, what were some of yours?
i am not talking about the stupid rules that we all had to follow, just the congregation specific silly ones.. 1. having to button your jacket while on stage (this was later changed due to all the elders having a beer gut).
2. suits only or no privledges.

My DA letter....
by Lilycurly inokay, i finally wrote.

i would love to have an opinion about it.... (i had to translate it form french...gramatical strangeness and abbreviations doesn't count!lol).

I enjoyed your letter, to the point, and bringing out very salient points. They all may read all of it before they realize your done, you didn't accuse them of anything, you just pointed out very glaring inconsistencies in their logic and beliefs. Great job.

~How did/do you personally feel about the headship arrangement?~
by FlyingHighNow ini feel that headship is one of the most damaging doctrines taught in the wtbts as well as other fundy religions.
it is promoted as a way to have happier, healthier marriages and families.
in theory, maybe so.

I felt it was a bunch of s**t, Just another way to keep women down, sisters have to be afraid of saying s**t to an elder or ministerial servant, they don't want to speak over them. What a bunch of Hooey!!!
I'm male and I didn't like it one little bit, they the elders and Ms's try to use it to lord it over the men also,
Women are just as smart or at times more than smarter than men, I found this out many times in the service, I also saw the other side of the street. Nothing pissed me off as much as the condensending attitude of the elder and Ms's a bunch of window washing grass cutting assholes who think they have a hold on reality.
I have several daughters, and no bastard better try and Lord it over them, they have been taught from day one they are just as important in fact more important than a man, their ideas, and thoughts count also and should be given just as much consideration as a man's and to not take s**t off anyone no matter the anatomy of that person.

Just this weekend, "Saturday, I was accosted by a witness in the parking lot of a local store, She wanted to know If I was interested in reading any of the Watchtowers and Awake Magazines she was carrying, I of course told her no, asnd that i did know about some of her beliefs and found them ridiculous.
She bit, asked her about what bible scripture is it that shows that the annointed were selected and the selection process ended in 1935. She of course said she didn't know, then I asked her how it was she believed it? Because she was told to or because it was explained in detail using scriptures and other bible proofs? She again said no, that it was in their literature. ((I got this idea from reading a post several days, weeks, back on this board)) it really stumped her.
I then asked her about the scripture in Hebrews 10: 24,25 about meeting attendance and why Paul was trying to encourage Christians back then to attend meetings was it because he was giving orders to the the older men of the hebrews or was it merely encouragement to help them deal with the way thier society was becoming and with the upcoming troubles with the Romans that everyone with a brian could figure out was headed their way?
She started to tell me some nonsense about the governing body, and I said body, you mean a group of men? she relied yes thats what I mean the governing body of the christians. So i asked her, then Paul must have been the president of the ruling body, she replied no, he wasn't. Then I asked why was he giving them the Hebrews orders then if he wasnt in charge of that supposed body? Maybe that wasn't an order but just encouragement? She finally agreed that perhaps it was, then I asked her why would anyone say it was a commandment. Wasn't Paul just a man and why would you obey the commandments of just a man? She had no reply.
Before we ended our talk, I asked her in front of several others just what was it that her church, the Jehovah Witnesses were doing for the local needy and what had they done for the victims of Katrina and Rita? She said they jumped in to help other persons, and I told her I didn't ask what they did for thier own, but what have they done for the needy and poor is this particular community and for the victims of the last two hurricanes. She got embarassed and left, just got up and left. It didn't leave a good taste in the mouths of those who overheard. I had several tell me thanks for bringing that up, we never see them the witness doing anything for anyone, the homeless, the poor, the sick, anyone non jehovah witness. We that is all of us there 6 to 7 people agreed,

Elder not calling us "brother or sister" at the book study
by JH ina few months ago, i went to a couple of book studies, and i hadn't set foot there in years, but what stuck me was when the elder called people by their first names when he asked questions at the book study.. instead of saying brother rat, he just called me rat .
instead of saying brother smith, he just said gary, and so on..... .
either the elder was making it more friendly by using our first names in stead of saying brother or sister so and so, or it was a change in the way they operate.. .

I have from day one as a witness perferred not to be called Brother. I had told elders and others alike, my mother didn't have you, therefore you are not my brother. In fact when called called by brother, I refused to even acknowledge them, this got to be a little embarassing at the book study, as when asked brother so and so would you please say the closing prayer and I would sit there as not acknowledge their request, and if they Mentioned my name instead I would tell them no thanks. I don't want to say a prayer you must be looking for someone else.
I also refused to acknowledge younger children calling me by my first name or by brother, i thought younger children should not be so familiar but should show some respect for ones older and I mean a lot older than them, having a young elementary aged person calling you by your first name is showing no manners. i refused to partake of their nonsense and would refuse to acknowledge them or their parents. They soon learned to call me as i wanted to be called not what an organization wanted me called.

I know a little served 25 years, also worked in Military Finance for 1 1/2 years. You can get support if he is actually in the military, His
being in the Marines and his name being on the birth certificate can help you greatly.
1. if name on certificate send it in to his unit commander lets them know he is a father and supposed to be responsible
2. get court order for support
3. People in finance will start subtracting a certain amount from his pay. (they need the paper work though not your word)
4. Part of support will be counted for child being a receipent of Military benefits (i.e. commissary priviledges, medical priviledges)
5. bitching about it and not doing anything about it accomplishes nothing.
6. Contact unit commander and maybe it can be handled via his office and get things straight.
7. Back pay could be an issue you have to show you were entitled to it. (court paper work)
8. Get legal documents showing he is responsible for support of child. This will help in several ways, a. if he is not being paid for having dependents, he will start getting that money, housing allowance for dependents is paid based upon zip code location, and his rank. That is money that could be coming directly to you. get your ducks in order, (legal paperwork birth certificate etc.) see a lawyer if nneded, and then go to military pay on base with this information or especially go to base legal first. then be patient, like all organizations it takes times to get the wheels grinding. The sooner you find out for sure he is in the military the better, then get the paper work going. buff

Do you find the bible boring?
by ChrisVance ini was raised as a dub, and i suppose when i was quite young i found some of the bible stories interesting.
however, the older i got the more boring the bible seemed.
obviously, it had a lot to do with repetition.

I find a heck of a lot of it boring especially the WTBTS interpretations of it, They are so full of it sometimes. They live in the old testament. An elder and his wife stopped by to visit and ask for my help with his english, he has three parts coming up and is not quite sure how to express certain things and which words to emphasize etc.
He even mention ed that the society seems to take an awful lot of O.T. for the watchtower studies, I mentioned they are the modern day sanhedrin and he laughed so hard he almost fell out of his seat. I ask him why arent you a Jesus witness Act 1:8, and he said he often wondered that too.
