My daughter and wife are going to book study and the subject of the ships of Kittim came up, I don't believe anything the WTBTS says about who or what they were does anyone else have any info? Your help will be much appreciated.

What can discourage the JW's?

whenever there is bad news around the world, the jw's turn this into good news for them, because they see it as a sign of the end, so they are encouraged.... if less people join their religion, they will say that the end is close because everyone must have made up their mind, so they become encouraged.. so, what can discourage the jw's?.

the real truth will discourage them, some to the point of not thinking anymore about it, others mental control as to deny the real truth, others just so closed minded that they don't want to hear anything that doesn't agree with the society.

The unless you were a pioneer or an elder or $$$ moneyed, you didn't count, unless of course they needed you to help with something then you would come up on their radar screen.

Perhaps if one takes in consideration that the separation of family has to do with family members being guided by the Mosaic Law and those guided by the law of love. That in and of itself would cause divisions among family members. Some family members wouldn't be aggressively opposed to the Christian or Christ like viewpoint and others would. Just like anything today that requires a dedication, some are for others against. That in and of itself causes a division in the family.

Unfortuanately this reminds me of how some of the so called brothers and sisters in the congregation try and take advantage of others. My daughter goes to a congregation at a distance from where my wife goes. while there she met a sister and her two daughters whom we had known years before. It wasn't long after that, that the sister asked my daughter to give her (not loan now) but give her $200.00 so that she could by somethings she had been wanting. She told my daughter that your single, live with family, so you don't have very many expenses so you should be more than willing to give (not loan) me the money. My daughter just ignored her and blew it off. Well a couple of months after thats she is asking my daughter to ask her aunt and mother to make this woman and her two daughters some food that they remembered having ate at our house before and she wanted some more. Well my daughter told her you ask them, and by the way were you going to buy the food that would need fixing. She the sister had no intention of paying for anything.
Several weeks after this she told my daughter please have your mom and dad come down and eat dinner with us. Guess who she wanted to pick up the check for the dinner? This is something she and her daughters have pulled in the past, I told my wife i wouldn't cross the street to go and have dinner with them and you know as well as I do that they want us to pay for them and any other guests that they happen to invite and no i don't want to go and see them. They are nothing but users, she pioneers and likes to use people. .

Streets76 You asked if anyone else has used their experience with the society to write fiction. Both Russell and Rutherford did all the time, and then there was that great fiction writer Fred Franz to name a few. You have read watchtowers and they are full of fiction.

Worldly People Are Good
by Undecided ini was walking around the block and at the end of the street there was this couple out in the yard cleaning it up, raking the leaves and old grass.
i mentioned that it was a never ending job.
they said," we are just cleaning the yard for the old lady that lives here, she isn't able to do it anymore, we live across the street.

Wordly people are good, several years ago I was laid up couldn't hardly walk, couldn't do any manual work, muchless do anything in the yard, I had several brothers from our congregation that offered to come over and help, so we said sure, and guess what none of them ever showed up to help, they just would talk about it when i saw them at the meeting, but it was all talk and never doing a damn thing to help. My wife, daughters, and 2 neighbors (men) came over time and time again to help or just to do the yard work, one had been occasionally studying with a brother in another congregation, and when he asked about the supposed love they all have for one another, whey weren't they helping me when i was physically unable to do the needed things myself, He of course tried to give the standard answer, and lost himself a bible study, the other neighbor also didnt want anything to do with the witnesses after he got the low down on them from the other man.

Husband had to get a blood transfusion

well, he developed complications from the anticoagulant.
he got acute gastritis and started loosing blood in his stools.

I feel for you, but am glad that your husband did receive the blood transfusion. i recently was in the hospital too, and had to have a blood transfusion also, 2 units were given to me, also prior to that albumen (spelling?) took several bottles of that each day prior to the transfusions plus iron, and potassium. The jdubs just want you to die just so they can have their nonscientific belief on it. My daughter who is also a jdub didn't say anything about it either, she just wanted her daddy to get better and to hell with how, just get better.
My wife is feeling guilty about it, don't know why, but tomorrow she is having a friend come over and they are going to review the dvd that the society has on blood and the benefits (dieing) of not taking blood, and bloodless surgeries. woud love some info to have handy to drop on them in a conversation way of course.
Hope you hubby continues to improve and you and he made the right decision. Yes we should all check our medical records and make sure there is nothing in there (such as being a jdub and not wanting blood) we don't want in there.

blonde thanks for the info. mr. Beaker and Mispeaches i also have family still left in the dubs, i am referring to thier acceptance of the drivel flowing forth from the society, without thinking about it, I haven't attacked anyone, I am attacking their thinking capacity or lack thereof. Appreciated you comments though.
