Ugh... It's only just dawned on me how much they regurgitate the same lame excuses why you shouldn't do ANYTHING worthwhile that they consider threatening. I remember being told "You should spend your free time in service to Jehovah and reading the publications" as the reason I couldn't do pretty much anything growing up, sports, movies, clubs etc etc etc.

I also loved the somewhat cryptic line of reasoning about the organization being the only line of communication that Christians need. Since I use the internet for things like coupons and recipes also are they going to start putting those in the publications? Might be a good idea. I wouldn't mind perusing an Awake magazine to get $1 off my next purchase of Tide. Of course next thing people would be getting disfellowshipped for putting walnuts in their chocolate chip cookie recipes.... that would be going beyond what is written.

Ok... sorry. Its late and Im tired.

I'm Lynette... Not a big suprise tho- I quit a great full time banking career to raise my kids and be at home until theyre a little older. I'm not satisfied until I have way too much going on in my life and do everything for everyone other than myself. Sound familiar? I can't complain tho- I love my kids, and I love staying home with them.... Really!

Heh- music virus.... gotta love that game! My husband's the master of getting the weirdest songs stuck in my head. The worst ones around my house are the Nick Jr. show songs(I have a 7, 5, and 1 year old). More often than not you can find me cleaning the house singing "D-D-D-D-D Dora.... Dora Dora Dora the Explorer!"

We have four awesome kitties that we rescued at different times. The two oldest are named Iris(Siamese) and Ceasar(Burman), the two youngins are Rocky (which looks JUST like Peppermints cutie), and Echo(black kitten). I'm a big fan of getting animals from the shelter, but the last two we got from a private rescue program which was MUCH cheaper. $25 per cat and that included the spay/neutering. At the shelter it's more like $50 each. I'm not so much of a dog person. Cats suit me because I just love that "take you or leave you" attitude they have. They can come snuggle and purr, and then go off and do their own thing.

Without hesitation I would have to rate my hubby a 10 and a 1/2. We met on a blind date and have been together going on five years since then. We've been married now for two. He's my best friend and a wonderful husband and father. I can't really say enough good things about him! Of course, we do have our moments when I just want to rip his head off and I'm sure he's been less than thrilled about my attitude at times . But really at times he's just so great I don't even think I deserve someone that good.

yeah, I saw this movie in the theater and it scared the crap out of me too. I ended up watching the whole thing with one eye showing through my fingers. (Im a big whimp) I totally couldn't sleep that night, ugh. I think the thing that freaked me out the most was that terrible noise she made.

Funny story about that though. The day after I watched that my husband decided to be all funny and sneak up on me while I was rinsing my hair in the shower and poke his head in and make that noise. I didn't know that I could climb up a shower wall before. Apparently this is a hidden talent I have.

I've watched it again recently and it's not near as scary the second time... I guess the suspense is all gone.

Name ways in which the Watchtower could make JW life more "appealing"?

jw meetings are so dull, and so alike, that one can only become bored in no time.

what changes would you have made in the meetings or after the meetings to make jw life more appealing and still christian?

I've never understood the practicality of not having a Sunday School and nursery for the children. Parents would get so much more out of the meetings if they didnt have to worry about if their children are being "distracting" according to whichever Nazis standards. Children would learn more in a more appropriate setting. I don't know how they would expect a five year old to get anything out of the meetings other than the fact that they hate their parents for making them sit still for two solid hours. My kids go to Sunday School every week and they have a blast. And theyre actually learning at the same time. What a concept!

Why do you live where you live?

for me i just drifted there when i finished my degree and the girl i was living with at the time got a good job with hewlett packard.

i tagged along and got a job within commuting distance.

i don't really like the city i live in but i haven't bothered moving for the last 6 years through inertia i guess.

I live in one of the greatest places on earth IMO. I came up to Alaska from Oregon when I was 17 to get away from my "situation" (home and JWs) and only left for a year to go back to Oregon. Why did I ever think THAT would work out? Alaska's been my home for ten years now, and I don't think I'll ever want to leave. The scenery is beautiful, the people are kind and down to earth in a way you just dont see anymore, and you have wildlife literally on your doorstep. Just the other day I watched a moose walk down the street and stop in my yard to eat some branches. I just LOVE this place!

ok, door to door question.......

i am always teasing my wife about having a "country club" upbringing as a witness.. in the hall i grew up in, and those i attended for a few years after turning 18, were pretty hard core.

i tease her about how easy she had it.

which, in my mind was clearly the case, but that is another story.. this case involves going out in service.. in my halls, you went out almost regardless of weather.

I'd have to say that my experience was a mixture between you and your wifes. I grew up in small towns in Oregon where the majority of the territory was rural. My Dad owned a large Dodge van that sat 8 people. How we worked the territory depended on where it was. If it was in town we would offload the entire van and all go in different directions in pairs of two. We would meet back after a certain time, or after a certain distance, probably a half mile to a mile. More often than not, though, we worked very rural territory. This I loved because I hardly ever spoke to anyone. We would have to drive between driveways and do one house at a time. I think my Dad would say that you had to keep getting out until the householder was home. You could go for hours and mabey talk to one person.

I have to say that in certain places I lived in Oregon, rural field service could be QUITE interesting. On more than one occasion we were met with rifles or had dogs set loose on us. Knowing the area, it was clear to me these people were growing... and I dont mean green beans and corn.
