Like a goldfish in a bowl who can never know what it is like outside
the water, we can never know the "truth" of what the world really is
like. In our eyes, if we did not have a mind / brain that interprets
for us, we would constantly see a world with gaping holes in it
corresponding to our blind spots. Our mind / brain seamlessly
integrates the images with our "map".

One statement that is made that is that people believe what they want
to believe, but this is simply not true. No matter how much you want
to believe that you can fly, you wont. The evidence is simply too
overpowering unless your mental powers are medically deficient.

Belief systems are complex and difficult to understand, and it appears
that since we can never make any observations external to our own
frame of reference we will never be fully able to understand our own
minds completely.

It does appear that when the evidence is overwhelming, incorrect
beliefs are easily and quickly shattered unless mentall illness is
involved. Examples are gravity, need for food, touch sensation etc.
What this also implies then is that there is still insufficient
evidence to "blow away" peoples "spiritual" ideas. Athiests and
Agnostics hold on dearly to their idea of a materialist universe every
bit as strongly as the devout born again. However at this stage of
human history, there is still insufficient evidence to sway the
general population one way or another.

Many People end up with a conglomeration of beliefs that can slowly
evolve over a lifetime but remain essentially the same. Others have
a mid life crisis and make more radical changes to their perceptions
of realities.

I still dont celebrate birthdays with my two children, because of several reasons
none of which are religiously based. I show love to them by hugs and presents
when I feel emotionally driven to. They know they are loved and I for one as a
borg drone never missed birthday parties. I left the world at 8 and came back to
the world at 39, and I can honestly say that I am glad I never got into the
birthday scene.
I wont impose my reasons here, because it is off topic, but I think the Changes
would fall into 3 categories.

The most positive change from a niceness point of view would be the
Disfellowshipping rule.

From a healthier mental outlook point of view, then the 5 meetings down to one
closely followed by removing fs reporting (along with approved quantity of service.

The single biggest physical impact would be allowing external literature and
media to be veiwed without guilt by the members. This one would be the biggest,
simply because it would cause members to leave in their droves.

During my years as a drone, I knew about 4 or 5 "annointed" ranging in ages from 30
to about 65. Of these, only 2 had any bearing on congregation matters. One was
and Elders wife who was a royal self rightous $#@(*^ and she did a significant amount
of behind the scenes congregation manipulating. Another one was an elder himself. But
as to "annointed" it was only ever regarded as a personal thing and nothing to do
with any of the running of the borg.

Another was a nice man who owned his own business and was very kind but his wife
had emotional distubances and their daughter was sick and retarded. Not even the elders
viewed him as anything at all and his fs was usually on the low side.

The other that I recall was a young married women with 2 daughters. The children were
always well behaved and her mate was an unbeliever. She speculated a fair bit and I
always enjoyed conversations with her as her discussions were always humble and
enlightened "for a drone". But again because she had a "bad" mate and was a young
woman in her 30's, she was always regarded rather lowly by others in the cong.

All in all, only one of the ones I knew was not nice and the rest were nice. 1 or 2 were
a cut above the rest but other than the nasty woman, none had any impact, different
from other drones, on others either in their congregation or elsewhere.

As they always said, their reward was in heaven and not on earth and that was the
ONLY difference between them and the GC.
