another jwd member has helped me with making the pdf version of google's scan of the finished mystery (1918 edition) searchable.
i've added bookmarks and a section on the pages that were cut from the 1917 edition to the file as well.
for those interested, it can be downloaded from this filesharing site:.

Could you explain to me how you make a old book like this, Searchable and Bookmarked ?
I have Acrobat 8
we see alot of topics on the board about the end of the wbt$..i don`t think that will happen in our lifetime........so..lets change our focus..kingdom halls are getting fewer and fewer jw`s in them..congregations are being dissolved and kingdom halls are sold off..many jw`s are very unhappy and we see alot of them on this board.....the wbt$ is a billion dollar organization, they will survive for along time to come..........how about the jehovah`s witness`s?.......with fewer and fewer members..information about the wbt$ on the internet..and..some very depressed jehovah`s witness`s looking for a way out of the cult they are in.....will the "jehovah`s witness`s" survive?...outlaw
So, the end of Jehovah's-Witnesses themselves is near, within this generation ?
the wt always put a lot of importance on the subject that jesus was not born the 25 of dec. now my question is why is there two different stories in the bible about jesus birth?
in luke 2 there is one story and in matthew there is an other.
in luke it says that jesus was born during a census when quirinius was governing syria but in matthew it says that he was born when herod the great was still alive.
Distinguish between the Bible and Jesus Christ
You diligently study the Scriptures because you think that by them you possess eternal life. These are the Scriptures that testify about me, yet you refuse to come to me to have life.
John 5:39 (New International Version)
But without the Bible, we would not know of Jesus Christ, right? You could say 'yes, we would', because he would have revealed himself to each and every one of us if it wasn't for the Bible, but still - where outside of the Bible do we learn about Jesus (who and what he is and was, I mean)? The Bible is where he chose to reveal himself to all of mankind, is it not?
If you're willing to disregard certain scriptures, then this becomes somewhat of a 'chicken or egg' question, IMO. Without the scriptures we wouldn't know about him (his personality and works, etc.), but now I hear that the scriptures aren't really important because he's omnipresent anyway, and reveals himself to us today. You could say "it's not 'either or', it's 'both and' ", both Jesus and scriptures. But then I don't see how one can disregard certain scriptures, or how to determine when we've suddenly disregarded too many scriptures.
Outside the Bible Jesus Christ is present in the Christians since the day of resurrection.
It is through the Christian community that He comes to all of mankind.
He lives in us.

Why do you focus on this story differences ? Our belief in Him doesnt depend on what Luke, Matthew or someone else wrote. He stil lives with us today. He is omnipresent.
I think this is an important statement.
Is it safe to say that if - for some reason (for the sake of argument) - the entire Bible was shown to be false (or we take it out of history altogether), this would not matter one iota, because we would still know Jesus exists?
If not, how far can we go in discarding various biblical passages until we reach the limit?

Narkissos:
It's not simply a Matthew-Luke contradiction inasmuch as Luke also situates his Nativity story (involving both John and Jesus within a 6-months time span) "in the days of King Herod of Judea" (1:5). Iow the Herod / Quirinius discrepancy is internal to Luke as well as with Matthew.
One of the biggest differences between Matthew and Luke here, imo, lies in the narrative connection of the places involved. When you read the stories separately without trying to knit them together, you have:
Matthew: Mary and Joseph live in Bethlehem in Judea; they leave for Egypt; because they can't go back to Bethlehem they finally move to Galilee and settle in Nazareth (2:22f).
Luke: Mary and Joseph live in Nazareth in Galilee; they travel to Bethlehem in Judea because of the (anachronistic) census; when the Judean episodes (involving especially the temple in Jerusalem) are over they simply go back to Nazareth.
JamesFree:
Actually the canonical Gospels don't agree on the day of Jesus' death. It's the day after the Passover meal in the Synoptics, the day before in John (18:28).

Who knows! Oddly, the only confirmed date is the day he died - Nisan 14, 33CE - yet that is the least believed date of all - millions even believe he is still alive!
Of course His alive. He first appeared to Mary Magdalene
By today He has appeared to millions and millions belivers in different forms.
In fact He comes to every one of us, but few of us recognize Him.
One must know Him, to recognize Him
He is everywhere.
Afterward Jesus appeared in a different form to two of them while they were walking in the country.
Mark 16:12 (New International Version)
can anybody quote any articles which speak out against the radical muslim terrorists?.
the watchtower made its reputation in the 1900's slamming catholicism and christendom.
surely you'd expect them to lash out against the muslim extremes.. or, are they afraid to do so?.
luke 6:29-30 (new international version) 29if someone strikes you on one cheek, turn to him the other also.
if someone takes your cloak, do not stop him from taking your tunic.
30give to everyone who asks you, and if anyone takes what belongs to you, do not demand it back.. so to all the christians out there, how many of you follow this?.
Anti-Christ:
"First, the flood, god kills every thing except 8 people and some animals".
Word:
Now we know this not to be a historic fact don't we
So why should the rest of it be ?
The true knowledge about God is not found in the old testament.
The truth about God is is displayed in Jesus Christ.
25 But first must he suffer many things, and be rejected of this generation.
26 And as it was in the days of Noe, so shall it be also in the days of the Son of man.
So I guess that makes Jesus a liar, you know what you are not making any sense to me so this will be my last reply to you. How can you say one part of the bible being true and a other being wrong and still believe it's from god? you know what, you don't have to answer that.
No, Jesus uses this and other metaphors to describe the "surprise" aspect of his second coming.
Where did I say that the Bible was from God ? It's only a compilation of books and leters.
Jesus Christ himself is the true and new word of God, not the old testament.
There is far more to Jesus Christ than the Bible says.
Jesus Christ didn't write anything, that's not the way he communicate with us.

Narkissos :
Let's say that if he was right Matthew's Jesus was wrong.
But who got the other "wrong" is not as simple a question as it first seems, because (by the vast majority of scholarly reckoning) the Pauline epistles predate the canonical Gospels by several decades.
It is moot to say that Paul "got Jesus wrong" because he practically never refers to his teaching.
Otoh Pauline theology (especially anti-legalism) is woven into the very first Gospel (Mark). Matthew doesn't ignore it, he reacts to it.
What remains there is the evidence for (at least) two very different types of "Christianity". Whence my remark that, ultimately, you choose (one against the other). So much for "Bible authority".
The "in Him" theology has it roots in Paul but really thrives in what is often considered as post-Pauline (Colossians, Ephesians) and Johannine literature. It is hardly apparent in the Synoptic Gospels (unless it is read into them, that is).
I see no conflict here, its just different ways of putting it.
Matthew was written to the Jews
Luke was written to the Greeks
John was written to the Gnostics
Mark was written to the
Paul wrote to the Christians
There are of course higher and lower forms of christology to.
For I tell you, unless your righteousness exceeds that of the scribes and Pharisees, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven.
Here we go again, what does He want us to understand ?
Have you read this book, you would love it.
