  1975, generation change and New Light - the WTBTS position

  the words below are taken from the latest version of the watchtower bible and tract society's history book.

  it is a response i have received from a jehovah's witness to my questions about how the watchtower bible and tract society represented the year 1975 and recent changes in generation teaching.

  beyond saying there are some interesting insights into the society's position on new light, i will withhold comment until i get some feedback from the board.. the bible itself says: do not interpretations belong to god?

  Whenever anyone mentions the "dark room" illustration , I remind the person that this paints a strange picture: Apparently, the Organisation was granted decades to become gradually purified from "Babylonish" teachings and practices (e.g. Pyramidology, Christmas, birthday celebrations), but an individual who converts to the Watchtower religion is required to make all the changes before baptism...

  To refute the Watch Tower Society's "New Light" doctrine, the following are useful:

  All truth is in harmony, whether old or new. What

  was true at any time in the past must be true yet....

  and if it is not true now, instead of being advanced

  light then it was terrible darkness. [...] We have

  sometimes been accused by unbelievers for teaching

  that the true way to advance was to displace the

  truth we learned yesterday by new truth learned to-

  day; but we utterly repudiate the absurd charge. To

  grow in knowledge is to retain the truth we have

  and add to our stock.

  (Zion’s Watch Tower July 1880 WTR p. 119)

  If we were following a man undoubtedly it would be

  different with us; undoubtedly one human idea

  would contradict another and that which was light

  one or two or six years ago would be regarded as

  darkness now: But with God there is no

  variableness, neither shadow of turning, and so it is

  with truth; any knowledge or light coming from

  God must be like its author. A new view of truth

  never can contradict a former truth. "New light"

  never extinguishes older "light," but adds to it. If

  you were lighting up a building containing seven

  gas jets you would not extinguish one every time

  you lighted another, but would add one light to

  another and they would be in harmony and thus give

  increase of light: So is it with the light of truth; the

  true increase is by adding to, not by substituting one

  for another.

  Was there a 1974 Franz speech and subsequent coverup?

  for those of us who remember it first hand, the 1975 fiasco is a strong indicator that the watchtower bible and tract society is not what it represents itself to be.

  in the late 1970's, after several years of unprecedented growth, the wtbts experienced an exodus of disallusioned thousands which many attribute to the failed 1975 prophesy (see www.jwfacts.com/watchtower/1975.php for details).

  the wtbts hierarchy subsequently played down the great disappointment of 1975, blamed its rank and file for having precipitated it, and has successfully swept it under the carpet.

  I believe Russell stated that the 6 000 years since Adam's creation ended in 1872... and the Millennium began in 1873...

  The problem of the 100 year discrepancy was first addressed in 1943 in the book The Truth Shall Make You Free.

  in the previous elder's manual was it a judicial offence if somebody persistently associated with a disfellowshipped person?

  i am sure it ws when i was an elder.

  was that not how they finally got ray franz?.

  The paragraph refers specifically to relatives of the the DF'd/DA'd individual.

  "If members of the congregation are known to have undue association with

  disfellowshipped or disassociated relatives who are not in the household..."

  The previous Flock book stated (p. 103):

  "Normally, a close relative would not be disfellowshipped

  for associating with a disfellowshipped person unless there

  is spiritual association or an effort made to justify or

  excuse the wrongful course."

  "you have a document that needs a certain person's attention by the end of the day.

  Oh, really?

  "This great increase of knowledge and the tremendous running to and fro of the people in various parts of the earth without question is a fulfillment of the prophecy testifying as to 'the time of the end'. These physical facts cannot be disputed and are sufficient to convince any reasonable mind that we have been in 'the time of the end' since 1799." (The Harp of God, p.234)

  on page 97 in the reasoning book it states: " before the last members of the generation that was alive in 1914 will have passed off the scene, all the things foretold will occur, including the "great tribulation" in which the present wicked world will end.".

  if you have a reasoning book pick it up!!!!!!

  yes, the time must come shortly that the nations will have to know that really a "prophet" of jehovah was among them.

  actually now more than a million and a half persons are helping that collective or composite "prophet" in his preaching work and well over that number of others are studying the bible with the "prophet" group and its companions..

  Read 1 Chronicles 17:1-4. The prophet Nathan was flat-out wrong. Eventually God corrected that prophet and the prophet subsequently corrected his proclamation.

  "Eventually"?????? The Scripture states (vs. 3) that it came about "on that night" that Almighty God corrected the prophet's off-the-cuff remark to David. Now, if God had waited for sixty or seventy years before correcting it, that may have provided an example analogous to the proclamations of the errant Watch Tower Society...

  In addition, unlike Nathan, the Society actually blames God for the falsehoods they declare in His name:

  13 The fact that decides the answer to the question is, not, Do all the clergy of Roman Catholicism and of Protestantism agree that Jehovah’s witnesses have been and are God’s prophet to the nations? but, Who discerned the divine will for Christians in this time of the world’s end and offered themselves to do it? Who have undertaken God’s foreordained work for this day of judgment of the nations? Who have answered the call to the work and have done it down till this year 1958? Whom has God actually used as his prophet?14 By the historical facts of the case Christendom is beaten back in defeat. Jehovah’s witnesses are deeply grateful today that the plain facts show that God has been pleased to use them. All the preaching and all the Bible educational work that they have done till now in 175 countries and islands of the sea they confess has been, not by help of a military army, nor by human power, but by God’s spirit, his invisible active force. (Zech. 4:6, AV) It has been because Jehovah thrust out his hand of power and touched their lips and put his words in their mouths. It has evidently been because he commissioned them to be over the nations and over the kingdoms. Happy are all those who have seen what the work of Jehovah God for now is and who have volunteered to do it. (w59 1/15 pp. 40-41 pars. 13-14)

  22 As Jehovah revealed his truths by means of the first-century Christian congregation so he does today by means of the present-day Christian congregation. Through this agency he is having carried out prophesying on an intensified and unparalleled scale. All this activity is not an accident. Jehovah is the one behind all of it. The abundance of spiritual food and the amazing details of Jehovah’s purposes that have been revealed to Jehovah’s anointed witnesses are clear evidence that they are the ones mentioned by Jesus when he foretold a “faithful and discreet slave” class that would be used to dispense God’s progressive revelations in these last days.   Stirring up increasing interest in them, Jehovah caused to be preached from 1918 onward the startling public message "Millions Now Living Will Never Die," and in 1923 he provided the interpretation of "the parable of the sheep and the goats" (Watchtower, Nov. 15, 1955, p. 698 § 36)

  (The last quote is especially unfortunate when one remembers that Rutherford had admitted "making an ass of [himself]" with the false prophecy regarding 1925. ["Regarding his misguided statements as to what we could expect in 1925, he once confessed to us at Bethel, 'I made an ass of myself.'" (Watchtower, 01. October, 1984, p. 24) ] )

  what do you all think of the brothers wearing yellow ties and the sisters wearing solid yellow bracelets on the saturday of any ca, sad, or dc?.

  when you look across the concourse and see - you will wonder.. it's easily deniable: "i am a what?!!
