  how often does it happen that we can be asked, rather like on the witness chair in a trial: "what exactly were you doing on the night of xx-xx-xxxx 30 years ago?

  " and actually be able to answer that question?

  i know exactly what i was doing during the evening of september 30, 1975: i was fervently praying to jehovah that i would be found worthy, in spite of all my weaknesses and failures, to find his favor and live through the next day, the day that armageddon was happening.

  "Put too much stock in Matt. 24:36" is simply an explanation for my pre-1975 reluctance to view 1975 as anything of particular significance. I once announced to the FS cargroup that the 1975 Doctrine was to be rejected because of the scripture, and got a "trimming" from an Elder (but nothing more, because I was still young and unbaptised [also, no apology post-'75 ]). And there were quite a number of people who couldn't muster enthusiasm for the WTS' chronological fantasy (although less than will now claim to have remained undeceived ).

  I didn't actually LIE regarding the '75 Expectation, but I certainly did BEND the truth -- and in so doing found myself in plentiful (if not necessarily good) company. Life is full of regrets...

  I can honestly say I never believed the hoopla regarding 1975. Put too much stock in Matt. 24:36.

  Will reluctantly admit I dishonestly tried to explain away the GB's false prophecy when speaking in Field Service post-1975.

  i know this is a gloomy topic but have any of you picked a song that you would liked played at your funeral.. i want james blunts new song "goodbye my lover" i heard it for the first time yesterday and cried never had that happend before.

  "Ein deutsches Requiem" is beautiful and appropriate, but would be too long for many to sit through; how about just movement six: "Denn wir haben keine bleibende Statt". The lyrics are (largely) taken from the Luther-Bibel: Hebr.13:14, 1 Cor. 15:51-55, Rev. 4:11. Too bad I'll not be there to enjoy it....

  which of ray's books would you recommend someone read first.

  coc does a great job of explaining ray's situation and the results.

  while covering some major doctrines along the way.

  Although ISoCF is the more interesting of the two books (IMHO), it may be better to start w/ CoC because a JW may be unwilling to tackle a number of the doctrinal errors discussed in ISoCF. Crisis of Conscience lays the groundwork for the sequel by demolishing the most important WTS doctrine: the concept that the Governing Body speaks for God.

  did you know that all these hurricanes and tsunamis are a "sign" that we're in "the time of the end"?

  almost anything that happens is "proof" that we're "living in the last days".

  when george bush sr. talked about a "new world order", in the 80's, that too was a "sign".

  How can we know there is a God?

  one way to determine whether there is a god is to apply this well-established principle: what is made requires a maker.

  the more complicated the thing made, the more capable the maker must be.. for example, look around your home.

  tables, chairs, desks, beds, pots, pans, plates, and other eating utensils all require a maker, as do walls, floors, and ceilings.

  What I find fascinating about defd's recent posts is that he admits that he believes God speaks to us thru His Son and thru the Bible with nary a claim of His speaking to us thru a Brooklyn-based publishing company. Defd, you're making terrific progress!

  i work for my father (a current jw) and we have some jw customers.

  since my recent fading, one particular customer, an elder, has come into work for business and then carried it further to encouraging me offering a hearing ear etc.

  Tell him you have some concerns and have discussed them with an anointed Brother who told you that you should not discuss those concerns with anyone "spiritually weak", since such discussion could completely demolish the faith of anyone not exceptionally robust in the Faith. .

  The Anointed, the Numbers and the GB

  have you ever considered the anointed, the number of partakers at the memorial and the governing body together?

  if you examine the number of partakers you can clearly see that sometimes the numbers increase.

  i asked some jws about this and their reply was, "those are replacements for unfaithful ones".

  Methinks most Witnesses would claim that although Raymond Franz was an anointed Christian before and during his stint with the Governing Body, when he "apostasized" and was disfellowshipped, he lost that "anointing", became a member of the "Evil Slave" class, and was to be replaced. However, the replacement of an "unfaithful, formerly anointed" individual need not be immediate, but rather, take place after the passage of some time (perhaps several years). Thus, the number of recognized anointed members of the "Remnant" will fall both because of death AND upon their defection from the "one, true Faith" []. Accordingly, it could be (but need not appear as) a one-for-one replacement because the cumulative defection of not-yet-replaced Evil Slaves could take place over several years, followed by a total replacement in a SINGLE year. If the number of recognized replacements exceeds the number of those who have died faithful since the previous Memorial, the total number of "anointed" will appear to increase. Of course, such an explanation is necessary only if the number 144 000 be literal.

  BTW, supposedly my own crown is up for grabs; when will I be replaced?
