Yes, I think Shelties are just the best, altho some people consider them wimps
They are great and we see very few problems with them as far as alergies, thyroid, digestive etc. They are mild mannered and not snappy but can be timid. They usually birth easy too. And most of all they are adorable. Our major problems with dogs in the south are skin alergies (flea, food and contact) and heartworms if the owner doesn't keep them on the preventative year round. They have a shot now that lasts for 6 months (Proheart 6) and many are going that route for less hassle. The only down side about animals is they are expensive if you are going to take proper care of them and almost as expensive as kids... lol One lady has to spend $100.00 every 2 weeks on prescription meds for her old timer. What's odd is we humans take many of the same meds for the same conditions as dogs and cats do like heart meds, lasix, ampicillian, metronidazole etc.

Animals are tops! Couldn't live without them! When I lived in the Country I had 5 Golden Retrievers, a "little dog" (mixed rat terrier named "little dog") and a shih tzu. When I moved they all went to live with other family members. Now I have 4 cats that live with me Phoebe, Daisy, Fletcher and Lillith and 2 I keep at my Mom's .. Bubba and Liberty Bell. Libbs is half bobcat and got her name because we found her (5 weeks old) wandering the streets in Ruston La on the 4th of July a few years back. My next is going to be a Bengal Cat .. They are gorgeous! I love Dogs too but have to enjoy them by proxy through work at the present time.

Wow Valis!
Hedgehogs! How cute! That is one animal I haven't seen come into the Vets in the years I've worked there. We get about everything else in the small animal department. Have you had any problems so far and what do they eat? Same as guinea pigs or ferrets?

Here is an interesting link for a sidenote on this
http://mineral.galleries.com/minerals/silicate/stauroli/stauroli.htm
Also there are quite a few descriptions in early Christian texts.
The Christian apologist Justin, writing about 160 CE made mention of the shape of the cross at least twice:
"And the human form differs from that of the irrational animals in nothing
else than in its being erect and having its hands extended . .. and this
shows no other form than that of the cross." (Justin Martyr: "First Apology"
in Roberts & Donaldson (ed): Ante-Nicene Fathers, Vol I, Eerdmans
1969, p. 181) "For the one beam is placed upright, from which the highest extremity is
raised up into a horn, when the other beam is fitted on to it, and the ends
appear on both sides as horns joined on to the one horn." (Justin's
"Dialogue With Trypho", Chap XC in ANF, p. 245)
A few decades later Irenaeus wrote:
"The very form of the cross, too, has five extremities, two in length, two
in bredth, and one in the middle, on which [last] the person rests who is
fixed by the nails." (Irenaeus' "Against Heresies", Chap XXIV in ANF p. 395)
In 197 AD the Christian writer Tertullian wrote:
"Every piece of timber which is fixed in the ground in an erect position is
a part of a cross, and indeed the greater portion of its mass. But an entire
cross is attributed to us, with its transverse beam, of course, and its
projecting seat." (Tertullian in "Ad Nationes" Chap XI in ANF, Vol III, p.
122)
Note that these writers lived in a period when Crucifixions were still
carried out, and could see these horribly executions firsthand. Both Justin
and Tertullian referred to cases where Christians were crucified.(See ANF,
Vol I, p. 254; Vol III, p. 28).
We even find testimony about the form of the cross by early non-Christian
writers. The Greek writer Lukianos (c. 120-180 AD) wrote that the letter T
had received its "evil meaning" because of the "evil instrument tyrants put
up to hang people upon them. (Lukianos in "Iudicium Vocalium 12", in Martin
Hengel in Crucifixion, Fortress Press, 1982, pp. 8,9)~Bugs
