Just had my first ever study with a JW

i wanted to ask questions about the organisation, but he looked me in the eye & ignored my questions to pursue his agenda.. he listed about 15 topics for us to study, to prove only jws are based on 1st century christianity.

i got him to agree not to attack other religions, (proving them false does not prove jws true) he agreed with this but then went on to criticise other religions!

next week i'll be firmer on this point!.

if he's the typical jw then he'll give you the whole "you must first take milk before solid food" spiel. he will want to cover all the basics with you in order right in the book so he can methodically brainwash you by having a bookstudy as opposed to a bible study. he will make sure to try to keep you on topic and explain that this is so you will not get confused or sidetracked. he will try to convince you that all your questions will be answered methodically as your study develops.

you are quite daring to undertake this. you're friend must be very important to you.

That's drama It's sad there are people in this world that would consider this a dilema.

I would save the man no matter what side the political realm he was on, of course... I always do question photographers that get footage of someone being attacked or killed without even making an effort to help the person being filmed.

Please help me help a friend, quickly

i have a friend who is a jw as is her husband.

she is stuck in a marriage with a man whom i believe has major mental problems and he is visciously abusive to her emotionally.

on two occasions he became physically violent with her as in he grabbed her and pinned her while he was yelling at her.

It's really hard to see someone you love being treated so badly It's even harder to help someone who seems unwilling to help herself... The bottom line is you need to convince her that she needs help.

I would probably tell her she's got to separate herself from the situation now before it becomes to big for her to handle. Seeing a therapist by herself might help her to get some clarity on things if she is unwilling to see that his treatment of her is not only detrimental to her mentally but potentially physically. He's got to know that losing her is what he will face if he does not seek professional help and make changes. She's got to know that she cannot put up with abuse. She really needs to call the police when he does something physical so there is a paper trail of it and so he has consequences for his actions. Otherwise, he will not see the seriousness of his actions and a need for change.

IMO, the elders aren't going to be of much help due to the whole 2 witnesses thing and even if she does go to them they are not properly trained to offer her the help she really needs to get out of an abusive relationship. So I would try to convince her that she really needs to seek outside help. Her husband needs to see that what he is doing is serious. Otherwise, he will not see a need to change and it will only get worse. The longer she puts up with it the more she will accept it as normal and the worse it will get, which I imagine you already know...

DF'd and dirty looks

i have a friend she is disfellowshipped.

she suffers from depression.

Personally, I would rather you tell your friend to stay away totally but if she insists on going I would suggest she go to a different congregation. When I was DF'd I attended a new congregation and did not receive dirty looks. If anyone ever did make eye contact with me they would either smile secretly or just look away. I even had a few speak to me in the restroom when I was nursing my baby. That congregation is not treating her right. Not that disfellowshipping is right in the first place but I imagine she would be treated better in another congregation.

Question for other Parents....

i have a 6 yo son who is in the first grade.

he was born 10 weeks preemie, was an only child up until about 6 months ago and spends a lot of time with adults - especially me...his goofy but loving dad.

I don't know if the following book could help you but my son's good friend who is 7 years old was also a preemie. he was born at 25 weeks and is a healthy, handsome, likeable and smart kid. he is intelligent and does seem to have ADHD tendencies (very hiper/can't sit still and disrupts class, unable to concentrate for any amount of time on anything that does not interest him) and unlike your son he is overly aggressive (without realizing he is hurting other children). i'm not saying your son has ADHD but from what i've seen and heard, being a preemie can bring on it's own set of unique charactistics for a child. anyways, his mom read the book i've posted below and she said it has helped her allot to be able to work with him.

It's really hard not to know if your child is in need of help and if so what kind... We are currently going through some things with our daughter. She is overly social, talks too much in class and her mind wanders all over the place. She is very smart but tends to try to get by with as little effort as possible if it's something she's not particularly interested in. She's going through early puberty too so that may play into things. She's struggling not socially at school but academically and we are just not sure how to help her. It's such a balance to be struck between letting children be themselves and getting involved with trying to help them to grow into happy, healthy and social little people.

Hang in there Dad :) It sounds to me you and your wife are doing a good job parenting and you are being open minded as well (which some parents find it hard to do when it comes to their child).

i was in nassau sitting on the beach, sipping a 151 pina colada, watching the jet-ski guy, all toned and tanned.

i remember thinking, he's got the coolest job in the world ... sittting on the beach all day, renting & teaching drunk & horny tourists how to ride them.

that's my fantasy .... i wanna be the jet-ski guy.

I would love to be a Midwife, Lactation Consultant and fulltime mommy. I think working with couples through labor, delivery, childcare and breastfeeding would be a rewarding career. I had such great experiences and I hate the level to which medical invention interferes with others having great experiences also.

CASES INVOLVING MINOR BAPTIZED CHILDREN
Serious wrongdoing on the part of minor children who are baptized should be reported to the elders. When the elders handle cases of serious sins involving a minor, it is preferable that the baptized parents of the young person be present and cooperate with the judicial committee, not attempting to shield the erring child from necessary disciplinary action. Just as in dealing with adult offenders, the judicial committee endeavors to reprove and restore the wrongdoer. However, if the young person is unrepentant, disfellowshipping action is taken.

This quote outta help if I eventually have to take my daughter's dad to court for "parental alienation"!

I just dare them to have me present if they try to ever df my minor child. I'll have them in court for emotional abuse so fast their heads will spin...
