Another Newbie
by FadingAway ini've been reading this forum for a while and i felt it was time to post my experience.
i am very comforted when i read others experiences and how similar they are to mine, i don't feel alone.. anyway, i learned the truth in 97, got baptized in 98. all of sudden i was getting prvileges, parts on the ca and dc and had friends that seemed to care about me and i cared for them.
eventually the love started to cool off, the meetings felt like watching reruns of a bland tv show.

Welcome....
I wish you the best of luck with your future decisions.... and hope your wife will join you eventually. Give her time. I, like your wife, was very upset to hear of my husbands decision to stop attending meetings and question the WT. After only a few months, I opened my eyes too....we are now united.
You have the best attitude ever.... The power of positive thinking is very strong!
Looking forward to hearing more from you.....

Genesis--- Welcome! First off, YES you have found the right place. There are a wide variety of people here with so many different stories and experiences. We all learn from one another, it's great! It's totally natural to question what the right decision would be regarding leaving the religion. After all, the majority of us were brain washed by the WT at one point or another and it is so hard to retrain our thinking. Some never are totally able to over come it..... but I don't know of one person on this board who regrets the decisions they have made as to leaving and starting to think for themself. It's tough, but you have a bonus with the fact that your family is already out..... that should help. God will help you find your way.... and your friends here will too!

A few questions about Jesus' birth for you active JW's
by Honesty in1. how is the governing body like the jewish religious leaders at jesus' birth when the wise men from the east told them they had come to worship jesus?.
matt 2:1-11 after jesus was born in bethlehem of judea in the days of king herod, wise men from the east arrived unexpectedly in jerusalem, saying, where is he who has been born king of the jews?
for we saw his star in the east and have come to worship him.

Honesty,
For question 1 - Did the "governing body" state that they are like the Jewish religious leaders of the day? or am I reading your question wrong?
Question 3 - Hmmm. Looks like it was a prophecy that guided them to the city, and then the King to where Jesus was?
Question 4 & 5 - I give up. Why did they only sacrifice the pigeons?
Thanks for your help. I'm always looking to "stump" a JW with logic.....

Do you like Winter?

I live in Wisconsin, So I better like winter. Atleast somewhat. White fluffy, fresh fallen snow is so beautiful, skiing and sledding are great. However by the end of Feb. I'm ready for some warm weather. Winter lasts too long.... that is the only downfall.
I got a 4-wheel drive truck and a snow blower this year ( finally, after living in Wisconsin all my life) so that makes it more bearable!!!

Don't remember the date of the issue, but it was in the early 90's(?)
WT study article that stated Sara was 99 years old when she gave birth to Issac. (mailed issue)
The issues sent to the congregations stated that she was 100.
Never did figure out which was correct, if any!! Guess I don't care.
Seems small compared to what we know they are WRONG about now!! EVERYTHING!!

Would you REALLY want to be reunited with you family after the BIG NEWS?
by Gill ini've just been thinking about my family.
they've treated us badly....really badly....especially on my husband's side.. do i want to see them 'normally' again......do i?
i've seen that i/we come after a book publishing company.

My family still talks to me often.
However if this news is THAT BIG, to make an impact on them, I think it would help with the tension that is between us at times. It would be nice to be united with escaping from this cult. Life would for sure be much easier and I could be more honest with my view points.

Received a letter from an Elder
by JH ini was gone for a few days and when i came back today, i found a letter in my mailbox.. basically it's a friendly letter asking me to come back to the congregation.
in his letter he says, i tried to contact you often but couldn't.
i know it's not easy trying to be a witness when no one in your family is a witness.

Hey there Rat-
Glad to hear you made it back home safe and sound. It was sure nice visiting with you on Sunday.
How ironic that this elder sent you a letter...since we all were just talking about him on Sunday. We too have received several letters from "friends" in the hall since leaving. Many have seemed genuine, and it's hard not to want to reply and at least acknowledge them. We tried that, just sending a short note back, but that seemed to just encourage them more. Giving them hope we may return to the hall someday. I feel that these "friends" should just be writing or calling because they are TRUE friends and really care about you as a person. Not just because they want you to come back to meetings.
It's a hard call what to do.....but you'll know in your heart what is right for you!
