Any types of books, authors, etc. you enjoy now that you didn't as a JW?

i always loved to collect books.

if any jw came and looked at my bookshelf now they would turn probably turn white.

Now I actually have time to read, I never had time to read being tied up with meetings and constant studying. I love to read and when I was not a JW I read all kinds of books.......can't wait to get back to it.

Hope I am not like an elephant that is put on a 6 foot chain and then when let loose still can only go 6 feet away......It will be nice to read page after page without stopping after every paragraph.

What has been your most spiritual experience?

ok highly loaded question but i'd like to know!

i come from the viewpoint that we are spiritual beings having mortal experiences ergo we are having constant spiritual experience that maybe makes it seem commonplace..i'd be interested if anyone else has noticed spiritual events happening?

I have had two that were big...once when my daughter was missing and I was trying to find her. I was at a loss at what to do and how to handle it and mostly needed to keep a check on my emotions. I went into my walkin closet in my bedroom and closed the door.......it was total darkness, no one was in the apartment. And I talked to GOD. I don't know how long I was in there, but I am sure it was the most sincere outpouring of my heart I have ever done. I talked, I begged, I cried, I was angry and I did not stop till I was done. It came from very deep inside of me and when I was done I felt at peace. It was a wonderful feeling and I will never forget it.

The second time was flying from Memphis to Little Rock(like a 45 min flight) after a trip to Texas, I was on my last journey to home. The flight was delayed out of Memphis because of storms in LR. Anyway, we eventually boarded the plane. We flew around the storm. But then the plane was jerking and shaking and dropping. Alot of us gasped, and some let out primitive screams. I was very scared and the man sitting next to me talked to me and held my hand. When I was able to calm down and decided my life was not in my hands, I was able to look out the window at a spectacular display of overwhelming power. Lightening going from one end of the sky to the other......since it was nighttime, when this happened the clouds would be illuminated. It was so awesome.

As we flew closer to LR I could see lights, I thought this must be the lights from the city, But it was not.......It was if we rounded a corner...but it was the clouds and as I looked into what looked like a valley........a valley of clouds there was a small opening in the clouds to the black sky beyond. And there was the moon.......glowing through that opening onto the clouds.........I will never forget the image in my mind and what a display it was. We glided past it. Just observers. It was surreal.

We did Land........and the whole lot of us applauded. We found out there had been tornadoes on the ground in Little Rock.

Some day I will draw what I saw.............I realized nature and the universe as never before.

so dont feel anyway bad when any of you leave this lieing institute, they are responsible for more spiritual and literal deaths on this earth than any of the orginisations they slag off.

Only Jehovah?s Witnesses, those of the anointed remnant and the "great crowd," as a united organization under the protection of the Supreme Organizer, have any Scriptural hope of surviving the impending end of this doomed system dominated by Satan the Devil. (Revelation 7:9-17; 2 Corinthians 4:4) They will make up the "flesh" that Jesus Christ said would be saved through the worst tribulation of all human history.

I think when this belief can be successfully rooted out, there is freedom from what the WTS dishes out. I just find it unbelievable now.

I found that I had to be content with the sacrifices I made and not expect anyone to acknowledge it in any way. No one knows what we gave up to keep doing all they asked of us. People that did it out of sincerity and from the heart usually don't go around telling how wonderful they are for what they gave up. And shame on the society for never acknowledging the little things people do, not everyone can give up to pioneer or be missionaries or go to Bethel. I got to where I hated hearing these grandiose stories, while the people that were busting their butts to financially support them only heard more and more what to give up to give more.

Sometimes the only way to be self-sacrificing is to not be needy.

Guns and JWs

did the watchtower society ban jw's from owning handguns for self defence?.

if they did, when did they issue the ban?.

didn't some of jesus's apostles carry a sword when the group traveled, to protect agains wild animals and human thieves?

I also am in the Midwest and alot of Witnesses here hunt and have guns, some have huge gun collections. I am not sure about using one for self-defense, although I know some brothers would shoot someone to protect their family if they were in harm.
