Would it be possible to have a section of this board for discussion from a Christian prospective? Many people who leave JWs or are thinking about leaving, would like to maintain the title and way of life as a Christian, and it would be nice if there was a place here for them to discuss topics of interest and doctrinal issues with others who also want to be Christians, without annoying those who no longer beleive in God or have taken an agnostic stand. I think it might serve to atract more lurkers if they knew that they could post thoughts and concerns, to others who could offer encouragement from a Christian prospective. This is not a complaint, and I hope it isn't taken that way, just a sugestion. seek2find

Does anyone know the Circuit Overseer, Randy Letcher?
by PaNiCAtTaCk inwe had him in our circuit around a year ago.
he was a very arrogant pianist/circuit overseer.
he came along when i was starting to have strong doubts and after his visits i had no choice but to pursue my doubts.

Is he the one that served in the texas-oklahoma area a few years ago? A little overweight, not married and wrecked his car?

To me, This site had a different feel to it than h20 or some of the other sites that let anything go. I don't agree with a lot of what is said here, but I then I don't agree with everything on any discussion board. It's not about agreeing anyway, its about sharing real life experiances, and learning. I first got started on discussion boards back in the 90s on the old prodigy service. There was a board for only JWs and then there was one for debate called "Not the party line". I learned a lot there. Even tho it hurt a lot to find out that a lot of things I always beleived were not true. When that service closed, I went to h2o tho I didn't post there just read. This is the only board I've posted on since Prodigy. I guess the real reason is sometimes I feel a need to speak my mind, and i feel I can do so here. I can't in my real world because no one is listening. seek2find

I read Coc about 10 years ago. I had a christian business aquanitance get it for me. (I was to scared to go to the Christian book store). I kept it hid in my office desk dwawer in a computer software box that was the perfect size. I'd take it out of the box to read and then return it when done. I no longer have it. It was destroyed when it was found out that I had read it. i still don't regret reading it, I just wish I could get my wife to. seek2find

Hi Drew, I'm kinda like you, I'm new here also. I don't have a lot of time to post. But read the board nearly every day. The big difference between us is, I'm a 3rd generation witness and all my Family are in. What a mess to try to get out of. I've been strugling with what to do for years. Anyway, just wanted to say hi and welcome. seek2find

I know excatly, how you feel. I'm kinda in the same boat, however, I feel if I just stop reading and taking in info, that I really am brainwashed. If this is the truth (what the Org, teaches)it will stand the test. If it doesn't then its not. Thats not where I want to be. seek2find

Ok Here goes. Here are the 2 stories I said I would post. In both cases I was closely involved with the ones that were disfellowshiped. The stories are similar but with different outcomes. I hope you can see the similarities Story # 1 happened several years ago. A young sister got involved with a young brother, and committed immorality. There was a time lapse between the time the incident happened and when it finally ended up in a judicial committee. During that time period, she became involved with a nice worldly person and fell in love and decided to marry him. To my knowledge, she never had been immoral with the worldly person, he being of a higher moral character than her previous witness encounter. When her case was heard by the JC, the subject of the worldly person came up and she was told to break it off with him and that if she didn’t she would be disfellowshipped. When she indicated that she would not break it off and was planning to marry him, she was disfellowshipped. Fast forward….. She was re-instated quickly because her Husband started studying, and made rapid progress and today is an elder. Story # 2 Is similar, but with a little different twist. More recently, another young Sister meets a young brother at an assembly and they immediately hit it off. It was like they were made for each other. The problem is, she was considered by many to be the perfect little witness sister, a future pioneer and the model witness. He on the other hand was considered as little better than dirt by most of those in his congregation. He was raised in an abusive JW home, had longer hair than normal, and somewhat of a rebellious attitude. Some time after they met and had been seeing each other for a while, he and a friend got involved in some drinking and had to much and were found out by family members. The elders in both congregations had been looking for a way to keep them away from each other in order to “protect” the future pioneer. The problem was they were in love and as you know love has a way of finding its own path. The drinking incidence, seemed to be the opportunity the elders were looking for. First the young man was told that he should stay away from the young sister because he was “no good for her”. The drinking incident was put on hold until it was seen how he would respond about staying away from her. After another assembly when they were again seen enjoying each others company, he was told that a Judicial Committee had been formed and that his case would be heard in a few weeks. The young couple were then faced with a decision. Do we stop seeing each other, and run the risk of his being disfellowshiped, an maybe never being able to be together? The other option Was to go ahead and get married, and then at least no one would be able to keep them apart. They went with the second option. The Day after they were married he was disfellowshipped. He was disfellowshipped, technically for alcohol abuse, but the real reason was because he refused to stay away from the Girl he loved. Where in the Bible do we find support for decisions such as this? About 10 years ago when I first started having serious doubts, I read Ray Franz’s book “Crisis of Conscience” Some where close to the end of the book he used the Illustration of “An iron fist beneath a velvet glove“. Both of the above stories are real life examples of the “Iron Fist” in action seek2find

Outright Lie in the Reasoning Book
by PaNiCAtTaCk inunder the topic "are jehovahs witnesses a sect or a cult?
the last sentence of the first paragraph says "they do not look to any human, but rather to jesus christ, as their leader.".
if an active witness were to make this exact statement to an elder, he or she would throw up a red flag!

I somewhat agree with this post, we aren't even suppose to pray to Jesus (even though some in the bible did so). When people are disfellowshiped, they aren't always delt with the way jesus dealt with people, sometimes it seems to be just the opposite. The oganization in my opinion has stationed itself above Jesus. He said his "yoke was kindly and his load light" contrast that with the extensive rules that exist within the Org. seek2find

Wow, I wasn't expecting such fast response. Thanks for all the encouraging words. I have read some of the experiances refered to. Every situation is different, I think there is hope in my case, but I'll wait as long as necessary. I'll post the 2 experainces in a different thread. It might be a day or 2. thanks again for the welcoming words. seek2find

Several years ago I began reading various internet sites about the history of the orginazation and came to the horrifing conclusion that some things are just not right. The problem is, I love my wife, and I don't want to hurt her, but there seems to be no posible way of leaving, without our Mariage hurting, or being completley destroyed. I don't want that, and I'm sure God doesn't either. I also am concerned about my own sprituality should I find myself on the outside. I don't want to leave God, I just want honesty from what ever religious group I'm with. They don't have to have all the answers. Just as long as they don't try to force a person to accept their interpetation of Gods word. I have an experiance to relate about 2 seperate instances of the congregations attempt to control peoples lives. Hopefully, I'l be able to share these as time passes. In closing I'd like to say thanks To Simon and the others who have helped to keep this board relatively free from some of the degrading speach and postings that some other boards have allowed. When a witness is looking for answers, they don't need to be bombarded with filth and profanity, because it is an instant turn off, for those who are looking to find answers to real concearns. seek2find
